The main goal of this work was to show the necessity of implementing enviromental aspects into existing agricultural productivity theories. The authors presented the issues of integral productivity and balanced intensification. A new approach to existing measures of farm productivity was discussed as well. Productivity index including environmental aspects (so called Environmentally Adjusted Total Factor Productivity) was showed. European farming, formed by the Common Agricultural Policy, currently implements the ideas of intensification and balanced progress most effectively. At the same time, it is on the development path enabling convergence of these two ideas.

In August 2014 the Russian Federation introduced a ban on imports of manyfood and agricultural products from the European Union member states,including Poland. It was the second embargo imposed on Poland after itsaccession to the European Union. The aim of the study is to assess theconsequences of measures adopted by the Russian Federation to restrictimports of apples, one of the most important agri-food products, in2004-2015. During the recent embargo, Poland did not limit itself, as ithad been the case during the first ban in 2006-2008, to redirectingexports to Russia via Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, but it looked fornew markets, including the EU single market.

The current state and the future of the biofuels for transport sectors in Poland were presented in the paper. Because of the importance of legal conditions, crucial directives and acts affecting the shape of these sectors were discussed. The scoring multicriteria M.E. Porter method was used to research attractiveness of the national biofuel sectors, i.e. the sectors of biodiesel and bioethanol produced from edible material (so-called first generation biofuels) as well as the sector of bioethanol produced from inedible material, mainly from lignocellulose (so-called second generation biofuel). Various factors of macro- and microenvironment of first generation biofuels caused regular reduction of their attractiveness. However, the sector of second generation bioethanol, which is not produced at industrial scale in Poland now, is characterized by relatively high and growing attractiveness.

The aim of the research presented in the article was to compare the potential of agriculture in voivodships and to evaluate the changes in the potential in the period from 2006 to 2014. The evaluation was based on rankings prepared with the use of selected methods of linear ordering developed according to the effectiveness and potential of agricultural production, not its size. With the use of rankings similarity measure the best rankings were selected for both years. Synthetic variables they were based on were then used to distinguish typological classes. A division into five groups based on mean and standard deviation was proposed.

The basic features of the contemporary economy include spatial diversity and its variation in time. It can be observed that some regions and countries develop faster and others slower. The theoretical framework of research into their development is specified by the concept of regional peripherality. In line with this concept, the possibilities for development of Lubuskie Voivodeship were assessed in the article. There were 39 diagnostic indicators considered in empirical research, describing the following groups of determinants: geographical location and settlement system, economy and its structure, demographical and social factors as well as infrastructure of the region. With the use of the data for 2014, the analysis of the voivodeship development was carried out in relation to Polish economy. Selected aspects of development of rural areas were considered. The results of the research indicate that Lubuskie Voivodeship is in many cases characterized by processes typical for peripheral regions.

The problem of consumer behavior in the food market is of interest to a variety of scientific disciplines, including sciences such as economics, psychology, sociology and management. The key issue in the decision-making process made by every person in the field of food consumption is the choice of proper nutrition, which seems difficult. The paper presents the level and the structure of food consumption in Poland as well as in individual provinces, with particular emphasis on Lubuskie voivodeship. Moreover, the causes of the change in food intake are shown. The main objective of the study is to assess the trends in food consumption in Lubuskie voivodeship against the changes in the pattern of food consumption in Poland. The study among inhabitants of the Lubuskie voivodeship shows that the majority of respondents purchase food taking economic factors into account. Among the most frequently consumed products are bakery and confectionery products, followed by products of animal origin, i.e. meat and meat products, whereas milk and dairy products are ranked third and fourth respectively. Two out of three respondents claim to consume vegetables. It should be noted that for the surveyed food safety is of paramount importance when buying food.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the purchase determinants and to analyze the perception of risk and health safety factors of fruits and vegetables consumption according to gender as well as the field and degree of studies of a selected group of students. The survey involved students of the Faculty of Horticulture and faculties related to nutrition and dietetics at WULS-SGGW, as the faculties provide wide knowledge of food quality and safety, and students of other universities in Warsaw. The importance of fruits and vegetables in the students’ daily diets and the consumption frequency, the significance of products’ individual characteristics affecting purchasing decisions as well as the importance of risk and safety factors were analyzed. It was shown that the field of study has a greater impact on decisive factors and the students’ perception of the risk from the fruits and vegetables consumption than gender.

The paper presents the results of economic and financial farms focused on the cultivation of field crops against farms targeted for the remainder of plant production (horticulture, permanent crops), and the total households in Poland. The basis of the study were data from the 2013 and 2014 year collected in these farms, under a system of Polish FADN. It has been shown that the holding in which the dominant share in the total production is the cultivation of field crops (mainly cereals and rape) were characterized by an average of approx. 20% higher income than households in general. In terms of income, however, is dominated by horticultural holdings. There are in this issue are some differences depending on the region FADN. Among the types of productive horticultural holdings are characterized by relatively low value obtained subsidies that in other types of vegetable farms and in general they have a significant impact on earned income. If the payments stopped functioning farm with permanent crops in the region of Pomerania and Masuria did not have to exist.
