Title | SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTING AS THE DI-RECTION OF CAPITAL MARKET DEVELOPMENT |
Słowa kluczowe | inwestowanie społecznie odpowiedzialne, strategie inwestowania społecznie odpowiedzialnego, rynek kapitałowy |
Key words | socially responsible investing, socially responsible investing strategies, capital market |
Abstract | Socially responsible investing (SRI) is becoming an increasingly fast-growing segment of the capital market. It refers to transactions in which the investment objective is determined not only by financial criteria (expected rate of return and risk) but also by non-financial aspects related to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues. The aim of the article is to diagnose socially responsible investing in the capital markets in spatial terms. An additional aim is to identify the strategies implemented by investors in individual markets. The classical methods of research were used in this article, such as the study of the literature concerning socially responsible investing and the method of desk research based on documents showing global trends in socially responsible investing in terms of value and investment strategies used by investors.Referring to statistics, it can be seen that socially responsible investing becomes a significant form of locating funds in a global capital market. In 2020, the global value of the SRI market amounted to over USD 35 trillion. However, it is not a homogeneous market, as evidenced by thevarying rates of development of socially responsible investing in different regions of the world. It is also a market that evolves in terms of the investment strategies used. This is reflected in moving away from making investment decisions mainly with the use of negative/exclusionary screening toinvestments made on the basis of ESG integration. |

Key words | |
Abstrakt | The paper aims to present and assess the changes in real housing prices in Poland during the COVID-19 pandemic. We analyse transaction prices of residential premises in a multi-family housing (apartments) in the primary and secondary markets within 16 administrative capitals of voivodeships. We use quarterly data on House Prices Database collected by the National Bank of Poland and data on quarterly price indices of consumer goods and services from Statistics Poland. The research period covers the period 2018-2021, with distinction into COVID-19- and pre-COVID-19 periods. We observe the highest housing prices in Warszawa, Gdańsk, Kraków, and Wrocław, while the lowest in Zielona Góra and Kielce. Surprisingly, the growth rate in real housing prices in the pandemic sub-period is lower than in corresponding pre-COVID-19 period. In the COVID-19 sub-period, we observe the most significant increases in real estate prices in Zielona Góra and Szczecin in the primary market, and Kraków, Lublin, and Łódź in the secondary market. Additionally, we reveal the existence of regional price convergence in the housing market in analysed cities, both in primary and secondary markets. However, we do not observe a common price convergence, but only convergence clubs (city-groups) where the housing prices tend to converge in the COVID-19 sub-period. |

Title | |
Słowa kluczowe | food market, food products, self-sufficiency, export, import |
Key words | |
Abstrakt | The article examines the peculiarities of the formation of the food market of Ukraine and trends in its development. The actual capacity of the domestic market for certain products has been determined, taking into account the decrease in the average per capita consumption of certain food products by the population and the reduction in the population of Ukraine. It is established that the growth of gross output of agricultural products has improved the level of self-sufficiency in food in Ukraine. Meeting the needs of the population in food, within its purchasing power, is almost entirely provided by domestic products, except fruits, berries, and grapes. The level and dynamics of import dependence of the food market as a whole and in the context of individual product groups are determined. |

Słowa kluczowe | consumers’ awareness, organic food, regression analysis, urban consumer, Sri Lanka |
Key words | consumers’ awareness, organic food, regression analysis, urban consumer, Sri Lanka |
Abstrakt | The organic food market is rapidly expanding all over the world with the recent rise of concern in food safety and environmental protection. Thus, examining information about consumers’ awareness on organic food is one of the inspiring areas for producers and marketers to capture a greater market share successfully. Therefore, this study aimed at analyzing the consumer awareness towards organic food products while addressing socio-demographic factors affecting consumer awareness on organic food, knowledge of consumers about organic food, and their purchasing pattern. A sample of 600 consumers was selected from the main cities of six urban districts in Sri Lanka for the study. Data were collected via a consumer survey using a pre-tested questionnaire, from November 2018 to May 2019. The data analysis was carried out using frequencies, percentages, and multiple linear regression analysis. According to the results, the majority of the respondents were married females. The results revealed that Sri Lankan consumers have a better awareness on organic food. The results of the regression analysis highlighted that the consumers’ awareness is significantly affected by factors such as gender, marital status, education, and monthly income. Although most respondents have a good level of awareness on organic food, their buying trend is at a lower level. The findings of the study play an important role in promoting the organic food market and are essential for food marketing planners, researchers, and policymakers to enhance the organic food industry in the country in the future. |

Słowa kluczowe | industry companies, firm life cycle, capital structure |
Key words | przedsiębiorstwa przemysłowe, faza cyklu życia przedsiębiorstwa, struktura kapitału. |
Abstrakt | This paper presents research on the dependency between the particular stages of a firm’s life cycle and selected capital structure ratios. The findings are in line with the pecking order theory of capital structure, stating that early stages of a firm’s life cycle should be characterised by the tendency for financing through debt. However, this stands in opposition to both the trade-off theory, and the research conducted on several Polish companies. The enterprises in their stages of introduction and growth were characterised by a substantially lower level of total assets to shareholders' equity ratio in their sources of finance, when compared to those in the shake-out stage. The companies in their growth stage were marked by a significantly higher level in the share of long-term commitments in sources of finance, as compared to the enterprises in their maturity, shake-out and decline stage. Also, the introduction stage showed a significantly higher level in the share of short-term commitments in sources of finance, in comparison with those being in their growth, maturity, and shake-out stage. |
Abstract | W opracowaniu przedstawiono badania dotyczące zależności pomiędzy różnymi fazami cyklu życia przedsiębiorstwa a wybranymi miarami struktury kapitału. |

Abstrakt | The article examines the role of the bioeconomy in the formation of priorities for the economic development of Ukraine. It is determined that the primary goal of the bioeconomy is the optimal use of renewable biological resources and the creation of sustainable manufacturing systems for new products. It is noted that Ukraine belongs to the countries with high bioeconomic potential, the source of which is the production of biomass of agricultural origin that creates favorable conditions for the development of the bioeconomy. The dynamics of biomass production potential are characterized by a stable increase in the amount of biomass available for use, and its energy capacity is analysed. Using the methodology of 'smart specialization', a model of strategy formation was developed, which defines the priorities, goals, and objectives of the bioeconomic development of Ukraine's economy. |

Title | Podmioty wykonujące samorządowe zadania publiczne – specyfika działania i finansowania |
Słowa kluczowe | local government, public tasks, municipal companies, finance. |
Key words | samorząd, zadania publiczne, spółki komunalne, finanse. |
Abstrakt | The goal of this article was to identify and characterize entities that participate in the process of performing public tasks. It contains their types and method of financial and/or organizational relationship with the budget of the municipal self-government. The article uses the methods of analysis and literature review as well as inductive and deductive reasoning. Institutional documents of a normative nature regarding the principles of self-government functions and literature on public (local) finances were used for the conducted research. The results show that functionally, the relationships between municipal companies and a commune budget can lead to disruptions in the assessment of the state of indebtedness of a local government entity. Following the experience of Great Britain, it can be concluded that one of the rational possibilities for carrying out projects is through a Public-Private Partnership. However, this solution can also bring financial dangers. Incorrectly dividing risks may lead to postponements of project performance or an excessive financial burden on the local government. It should also be noted that the private capital involvement formula (PPP contracts) can be used when there are economic benefits in the implementation of a specific public project, the scale of which may be of interest to the owners of capital. A significant number of public projects that are carried out by municipalities, especially in smaller (rural) entities, are in short supply and, in principle, do not give such an opportunity. |
Do prowadzonych badań wykorzystano dokumenty instytucjonalne o charakterze normatywnym dotyczące zasad funkcjonowania samorządu oraz literaturę przedmiotu z zakresu finansów publicznych (lokalnych).

Title | Supply of Materials to the Agribusiness Sector of European Union Countries |
Słowa kluczowe | material supply, agribusiness, food industry, agriculture, European Union |
Key words | material supply, agribusiness, food industry, agriculture, European Union |
Abstrakt | The purpose of this paper was to assess the prevailing relationships in the supply structure of the agribusiness sector in European Union countries over the years. The study focused on 25 European Union countries (Cyprus, Luxembourg and Malta were excluded) to address the changes in the supply structures of agriculture and food industries, the two major components of agribusiness. The study was of a dynamic nature. Although the study period was 2000–2014, this paper only presents the figures for the first and the last year, i.e. 2000 and 2014. The main focus was on drawing conclusions on the trends observed which proved to be relatively stable in the years covered. The input–output analysis was used by aggregating the sectors of the economy for a better transparency of the inference process. As shown by this study, EU countries at higher development levels witness a decline in the share of the chemical industry in the mix of goods and services supplied to agriculture. Conversely, less developed countries saw that ratio increase. Also, the share of goods supplied to agriculture from the fuel and energy sectors goes up in most EU countries. As regards the food industry, this study observed high shares of agriculture, services and self-supply in the supply structure of EU countries. This analysis extends the existing knowledge on the relationships in the structure of materials supplied to the agribusiness because in addition to agriculture itself (which was addressed by similar studies found in literature) it takes account of the food industry. Moreover, based on long-term observations, it endeavors to capture the prevailing relationships in several countries at a time. |

Słowa kluczowe | effectiveness, agricultural farms, FADN, Visegrad Group |
Key words | efektywność, gospodarstwa rolne, FADN, grupa Wyszehradzka |
Abstrakt | The objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of production factors on farms of the Visegrad Group countries. The research covered farms participating in the European system for collecting accounting data from FADN (Farm Accountancy Data Network) farms. Under the main objective, an assessment was made of the productivity and profitability of land, labour and capital. The research period covered the years 2014-2017. Based on the analyses that was conducted, it was found that the most effective use of land resources was on farms in Hungary and Poland, and the least effective in Slovakia. Considering labour and capital productivity, the highest results were achieved by farms in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while the lowest by Polish farms. On the other hand, Hungarian farms were characterized by the highest profitability of labour and return on assets, where the analysed indicators were higher than the EU average. |
Abstract | Celem opracowania było określenie efektywności wykorzystania czynników produkcji w gospodarstwach rolniczych państw Grupy Wyszehradzkiej. Badaniami objęte zostały gospodarstwa uczestniczące w europejskim systemie zbierania danych rachunkowych z gospodarstw rolnych FADN (Farm Accountancy Data Network). W ramach celu głównego dokonano oceny produktywności i dochodowości ziemi, pracy i kapitału. |

Title | INDEBTEDNESS OF FARMERS IN POLAND IN LIGHT OF STRUCTURAL CHANGES AND ECONOMIC FLUCTUATIONS IN AGRICULTURE |
Słowa kluczowe | gospodarstwa rolne, kredyt bankowy, koniunktura w rolnictwie, przemiany strukturalne. |
Key words | agricultural holdings, bank credit, economic fluctuations in agriculture, structural changes |
Abstract | The paper presents an analysis of the dynamics and structure of farmers' credit obligations towards banks in Poland in 1996-2018. The credit debt of farmers is presented against the background of the structural changes and economic fluctuations in agriculture. It was assumed that a favorable economic situation in agriculture stimulates the growth in farmers' indebtedness to banks. Similarly, it was assumed that the process of increasing concentration within the agrarian structure and the increase in the technical equipment of labor and technical equipment of land would be factors conducive to the growth in farmers' credit debt. The research did not give a definite answer to the research thesis. A positive correlation between farmers' credit debt and economic fluctuations in agriculture was revealed, as well as the process of substitution of labor and land inputs by capital expenditures. Regression analysis showed that investment stimulus in agriculture is the stimulus of credit debt, while increased concentration within the agrarian structure and the improvement of the land/work relationship leads to a reduction in debt increases. |

Abstrakt | The article analyzes the domestic and world methods of assessing the level of foodsecurity. The national peculiarities of food security are considered, its level in Ukraine is analyzedaccording to the indicators of daily energy value of human diet, consumption of differenttypes of food per capita, food structure and food independence. The calculated indicators ofadequacy of consumption for certain foods are quite low, in particular: fish and fish products;fruits, berries and grapes; milk and dairy products; meat and meat products. These indicatorsare evidence of an imbalance in the diet of the population, which is trying to provide their ownenergy needs through more affordable products. The key problem of food security in Ukrainetoday is the affordability of products. It is the low purchasing power of the population that insome way hinders the development of production and the economy as a whole. |

Title | THE FINANCIAL LEVERAGE EFFECT AND THE SOURCES OF FINANCING FOR ENTERPRISES IN POLAND FROM 2005-2018 |
Słowa kluczowe | dźwignia finansowa, źródła finansowania, struktura kapitału. |
Key words | financial leverage, sources of financing, capital structure |
Abstrakt | Mechanizm dźwigni finansowej należy do podstawowych zagadnień zarządzania finansami przedsiębiorstwa, a dokładniej kształtowania struktury źródeł finansowania. |
Abstract | The optimal structure of financing has been a frequent subject of research in corporate finance management for decades. Financial leverage and its effects are closely related to this topic. Thanks to the positive effect of financial leverage, a company may obtain a higher return on equity. The aim of this article is to present a practical approach to the financial leverage effect and to analyse whether decisions about the degree of credit and loans in the financing of enterprises were reasonable from the point of view of their impact on the return on equity. The analysis covered the years 2005-2018. The paper examines the question of whether enterprises in Poland had the opportunity to use debt to increase ROE. It also analyses whether decisions on the level of credit and loan within the capital structure were correlated with the level of the operating margin(s) of assets over the cost of debt, which is a requirement for a positive effect from financial leverage. It was shown that in the majority of the analysed years, enterprises could increase their return on equity by increasing their share of debt financing, but it was not known whether these decisions were made by taking into account the phenomenon and the leverage effect. |

Title | Różne wymiary potencjału dochodowego jednostek samorządu terytorialnego – przykład Polski |
Słowa kluczowe | fiscal capacity, fiscal effort, LGUs’ revenues, local disparities |
Key words | potencjał dochodowy, wysiłek fiskalny, dochody JST, zróżnicowania lokalne. |
Abstrakt | The structure of the financial system of local government units (LGUs) determines the efficiency of its operation and development opportunities. Such a system should take into account both appropriately assigned sources of its own revenues as well as properly estimated expenditure needs, and equalization transfers. This paper focuses on the revenue side, more precisely – on the fiscal capacity of local governments. The paper begins by analyzing the concept of fiscal capacity in foreign and Polish literature. Then, three different types of fiscal capacity are distinguished, which is justified by the different purposes for which such capacities can be used. The remainder of the paper presents the amounts of fiscal capacity of various types of Polish LGUs in 2010-2017. An attempt was also made to identify external factors affecting the amount of this capacity. |
Abstract | Konstrukcja systemu finansowego jednostek samorządu terytorialnego (JST) determinuje efektywność jego funkcjonowania i możliwości rozwoju. Rozpoczyna go analiza pojęcia potencjału dochodowego w literaturze zagranicznej i polskiej. |

Słowa kluczowe | managerial decision making, feed production, the efficiency of the production ofgranulated feed |
Key words | |
Abstrakt | Improving production efficiency, increasing gross and marketable output is inextricablylinked to comprehensive intensification, that is, with the growth of additional investmentsin the development of agricultural production. The increase in capital investments isthe basis for strengthening and improving the material and technical base, and for implementingscientific and technological progress. Increasing the intensity of agriculture and animalhusbandry contributes to more efficient use of land and livestock, increasing crop yields andlivestock productivity. The main link between crop production and animal husbandry is feedproduction. Creating a solid feed base is the most important condition for the development ofanimal husbandry. Its state and level of development determine the possibility of increasingthe number of animals, increasing their productivity, improving the quality of products andreducing the cost of the latter. It is proved that the level of productivity of animals by 50-80%is determined by their feeding. Due to the importance of feed, it is necessary that their productionis ahead of the pace of needs (growth of livestock and its productivity). When forminga feed base, it is important to take into account not only the total volume of feed that willensure the production of a certain amount of products, but also their balance with nutrients. As a rule, feed, namely green feed, silage, haylage, is not a commodity product, that is, thereare no permanent markets for them. These types of feed are grown by those farms that areengaged in animal husbandry and must create their own raw material base for obtaining themain feed. |

Słowa kluczowe | efficiency, farmers, table grapes, South Africa, stochastic frontier model |
Key words | efficiency, farmers, table grapes, South Africa, stochastic frontier model |
Abstrakt | Table grape production plays an important role in the economy of many countries in Africa. It serves as a source of income for the people who are engaged in its production and being one of the enterprises that is labour-intensive, thereby providing employment for more people. The main purpose of this study was to analyse the economic efficiency of table grape production in Waterberg and Sekhukhune Districts of Limpopo province, South Africa. The study used primary data collected through administration of structured questionnaires on a sample of 12 farmers by employing a snowball sampling method. Analytical tools employed include descriptive statistics (such as tables and frequencies), Stochastic Frontier Model and Technical Inefficiency Model. Results from data analysis revealed that in terms of efficiency, farming experience (p<0.01), educational level (p<0.05), household size (p<0.10) and age of farmer (p<0.10) were associated with increased efficiency indicating that these factors play important roles in ensuring that resources used in the production of table grapes enhanced productivity and were not wasted. Also, technical efficiency among farmers was found to range from 0.8 to 1, with a mean of 0.89, thus implying a major possibility for improvement in production. However, the allocative efficiency was found to range from 0.47 to 1, with a mean of 0.68. This indicates that some farmers were finding it difficult to allocate their resources efficiently. Again, economic efficiency ranges from 0.56 to 1, with a mean of 0.73, an indication that most of the farmers were economically efficient. Meanwhile, some of the constraints faced by these farmers include high electricity bills and labour costs, water shortages as well as instability around land policy. The study therefore recommends capacity building of farmers through education and other skill enhancement programmes. Also, provision of incentives to encourage youth participation in farming through internship programmes is very important to increase farm productivity. |

Key words | macroprudential policy, systemically important financial institutions, capital buffers, MREL, TLAC |
Wzmacnia ono argumenty na rzecz tezy o niskiej skuteczności polityki makroostrożnościowej w dyscyplinowaniu stabilizującej roli SIFIs w systemie finansowym gospodarki globalnej. |
Abstract | The macroprudential policy implemented due to the Basel regulations after the global financial crisis has a preventive nature, although it covers a number of institutional and instrumental solutions aimed at preventing the materialisation of systemic risk. The analysis of these solutions has been linked in the article with their orientation on financial systemically important institutions (SIFIs), operating in the European Union. It is indicated that institutional and instrumental solutions, implemented through the macroprudential policy, significantly increase regulatory discipline in the financial system of the modern economy; however they are not always transparent and their effectiveness is limited, due to the nature of systemic risk. Regulatory dispersion in the European Union is also observed in relation to systemically important financial institutions. It strengthens the arguments in favor of the idea that macroprudential policy has low effectiveness in disciplining the stabilizing role of SIFIs in the financial system of the global economy. |
