Title | Food Losses and Food Waste Versus Circular Economy |
Słowa kluczowe | food, circular economy, waste and food waste, food losses |
Key words | food, circular economy, waste and food waste, food losses |
Abstrakt | The article aims to introduce the issue of food waste and all attempts to prevent action. Business and politics are almost interdependent, and any discussion of an economic nature is not complete without a political contribution. The role of politics and politicians in shaping economic activities was and is widely discussed. In the article, there will be a discussion on the problems of food losses and waste in Poland as the member of EU and in India. The idea of the topic came during the tenure of collaboration between representatives of both departments. Conclusions of the study found some similarities and a lot of differences between the countries. Studies have shown that negative attitude of house-hold towards food waste is not frequently reflected in consumers’ behavior, despite their fundamental knowledge on how to reduce food waste. Properly selected and presented information will stimulate both consumer’s attitude and behavior. |

Çelik S., Öztemiz H., Uçak H. MONITORING THE FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES SUPPLY CHAIN IN TURKEY

Słowa kluczowe | agricultural supply chain, fresh fruits and vegetables, Turkey, restructuring of agricultural supply chains, food safety and food losses. |
Key words | |
Abstrakt | Turkey’s bio-diversity, geographical structure and climatic conditions, makes it possible to produce a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Although, the high production capacity, half of the vegetables and fruits are lost during the supply chain processes from farmer to the end consumer because of the long and complex structure of the supply chain. At the same time the current supply chain structure leads to huge gaps between producer and consumer prices. The aim of this study is to determine the structure of the fresh fruit and vegetable supply chain in Turkey and develop alternative supply chain forms to prevent the “price differences” and “product losses” from farmer to the final consumer. The study included descriptive analyses with secondary data as well as literature review. In addition, this study emphasizes the asymmetric power relationship in the agricultural supply chain. The asymmetric power relationship is explained by the price differences between the farmer and the final consumer. The research findings suggest that the transition from the existing multi-intermediated supply chain to the non-intermediated model must be done in a gradual way and through strengthening of the farmers. |

Title | Impact of Food Losses and Waste on Food Security |
Słowa kluczowe | straty i marnotrawstwo żywności, bezpieczeństwo żywnościowe |
Key words | food losses and waste, food security |
Abstract | Occurring food losses and waste (FLW) are a result of ineffective functioning of food systems. Depending on the volume or region in which they occur they generate economic, social, environmental and health impacts. This paper analyzes the available polish and foreign scientific literature on the issue of food security and food losses and waste. Food losses and waste generate a lot of negative effects, which may directly or indirectly affect the four pillars of food security: food availability, access to food, food utilization and stability. Many activities are undertaken in order to prevent or minimize generated food losses and waste. On the other hand already created losses or waste can be used for example by redistributing or reusing food or its components, which may contribute to ensure food security. |
