Abstrakt | The prevalence of diet-related diseases together with global population growth and the imbalance of ecosystems determine an urgent need to change existing dietary patterns and make food market more sustainable. A widely available alternative to food of animal origin are plant sources of protein, including pulses. The aim of this paper was to analyse the global pulses market and to review programs encouraging the increase of pulses consumption. The production and consumption of this food were analysed globally, regionally, and in selected countries using FAOSTAT data. The situation on the Polish market was presented additionally on the base of GUS (Central Statistical Office) data. Finally, the SWOT method was used to assess the market and indicate the possibility of giving up part of the meat consumption for pulses |

Huseynov R. Multidimensional Determinants of National Food Security in Azerbaijan: an Application of the ARDL Approach

Title | Multidimensional Determinants of National Food Security in Azerbaijan: an Application of the ARDL Approach |
Słowa kluczowe | food availability, food access, food stability, Azerbaijan |
Key words | food availability, food access, food stability, Azerbaijan |
Abstrakt | Food intake is a prerequisite for human beings to live a healthy life style. The attainment of food security is crucial and is a prime development priority for all developing countries. The inability to provide reliable evidence of national food security has remained a problem for both policymakers and researchers alike. The present study helps fill this gap by incorporating the multidimensional determinants of food security at the national level in Azerbaijan. The specific objectives of the study are to evaluate the short-term and long-term dynamics of these determinants on food security. The empirical analysis draws from nationally representative time series data over the period 1991 to 2018, taken from FAO and WDI. The ARDL model suggested that food import, exchange rate, inflation, climate change, and urban population growth harm national food security dynamics of Azerbaijan. On the other hand, trade to GDP ratio has a positive impact on food security. Overall results suggest that there is a pressing need to improve its institutional framework if the Azerbaijan government sincerely desires to have sustainable food security, as organizations control all other issues. |

Abstrakt | The article presents the results of the analysis of factors influencing the development of the Mazowieckie Province (Masovia) in the years 2007–2016. Data for the study were collected from the Central Statistical Office and Statistical Yearbooks of the Mazowieckie Province. The results indicate that the level of development of Masovia is considerably higher than of other provinces in the country. At the end of the analyzed period, in Masovia the GDP per capita was almost twice as high as the national average. Masovia held the highest share in Poland’s GDP (22%). Important factors positively affecting the development of Masovia are: positive population growth and improving demographic situation, and broad access to telecommunications. Additional factors of the dynamic Masovia’s development are: extensive transportation infrastructure (104.3 km per 100 km2) and high number of students (236.5 thousand) and college graduates (60.8 thousand) who constitute the future substantive resources of the province’s economy. |

Abstract | The objective of the case study was to give an overview of differences between Hungarian regions from the aspect of socioeconomic factors. The paper deals with the distinct situations of NUTS 2 regions in order to get a general view of the country fromthat angle. Although, that approach is not the most detailed one, it makes possible to easily distinguish the competitive parts of the country. Secondary data were provided by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) and National Territorial Development and SpatialPlanning Information System (TeIR) were used to present the distribution of population by various expositions. Unemployment rate, distribution of educational attainment, population growth, rate of ageing, vitality index, dependency ratio and GDP per capita were calculated and assembled to present the differences. The results are showing clearly, that Central Hungary (HU10), Central Transdanubia (HU21), Western Transdanubia (HU22) are currently competitive. The population of Southern Transdanubia (HU23) and Southern Great Plain (HU33) are aging, but stable from the view of economy related indexes. Northern Hungary (HU31) and Northern Great Plain (HU32) are considered laggards from that aspect, but have a considerable potential because of the age structure of the population. The paper alsointroduces some national and EU programmes which are meant to mitigate the effects of unfavourable situations. |

Kozera M. Efektywność wykorzystania kapitału intelektualnego przedsiębiorstw rolniczych w Polsce

Title | EFFECTIVENESS OF USE OF THE INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL IN THE POLISH FARM BUSINESSES |
Słowa kluczowe | przedsiębiorstwa rolnicze, zasoby materialne i niematerialne, efektywność wykorzystania zasobów, metoda VAIC™ |
Key words | farm businesses, tangible and intangible resources, efficiency of resources using, the VAIC™ method |
Abstrakt | W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane wyniki badań nad efektywnością wykorzystania zasobów materialnych i niematerialnych w przedsiębiorstwach rolniczych w Polsce. |
Abstract | The article presents results of the study concerning the use of tangible and intangible assets in the selected Polish farm businesses. The author applied the VAIC ™ method proposed by A. Pulić to estimate the efficiency of the use of human, structural and physical capital in value added creation. The results showed the significant changes in the structure and dynamics of the Value Added Co-efficient, which oscillated around 2.5. In the studied population (N=145) the effectiveness of the human and structural capital is growing, while the effectiveness of the physical capital is decreasing. It mean that every 1PNL involved in the intangible assets results in the growth of the value added around 2.5PLN. Due to the fact that in research population growth effectiveness of human and structural capital, but decrease effectiveness of physical capital – it is allowed to assume, that each zloty engaged in intangible assets, rise its importance in value added creation. |

Abstrakt | |
Abstract | In the last years a disturbing tendency of reduction in the birth rate and increase in the death rate is observed, and the situation in the countryside is especially dangerous. The most qualified experts and youth leave countryside. Youth in its turn is a potential labour force. The state uses measures to improve the situation. However the further development of manufacture and the effective utilization of labour potential are impossible without labour efficiency growth. |
