Abstract | The aim of his article is to present the situation of the dairy market in China and India in relation to the European Union and particularly Poland. The analysis has been based on the data provided by International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN). Milk production in China and India is developing very dynamically. In 1981–2004 milk production in India increased over three times whereas in China more than eight times. Dairy production is stimulated by the domestic demand. In China in 2000–2005 milk consumption increased from 9.7 to 22.6 kg per capita per year. It has been estimated that in the following 4 years milk demand in China will double. Increasing demand along with not sufficient production capacity in China may trigger the increase in milk import. The estimated deficiency of milk products in next 4 years may amount from 13 up to 23 million tons. This situation creates new opportunities for the exporters of dairy products (the UE, Poland) |

Abstract | In presented paper changes in the sugar production and in the nursery of the sugar beet in the EU brought about were described with implementing the reform of the market of the sugar. An too small interest in limiting the sugar production in 2007 caused the yr the European Commission modified principles of the reform and a possibility of the resignation led farmers from the right into the cultivation of the sugar beet in exchange for high bonuses in the framework of the so-called farmer’s initiative. At the same time they enabled sugar factories to assume this initiative under the condition of limiting the sugar production, in case of Poland, by the 13.5%. All sugar concerns took advantage of this possibility. However it turned out, that considerable part of farmers, on account of the low profitability of the cultivation of the sugar beet, doesn’t want to plant this plant. In April 2008 yr, sugar concerns had a problem with contracting the essential amount of the raw material. Therefore they persuaded farmers which relinquished their right to the cultivation to produce the raw material in frames of the limit of the sugar factory. However such a situation can cause, that Poland will become the net importer of the sugar, or else the domestic production in 2008 will be shorter than the demand |

Abstract | The organizational environment comprises a wide range of forces that can affect organizational performances. These forces differ between organizations according to the geographical location, industry and market served. Multinational firms face different situations from that of small local business. The forces affecting business organizations are different from those influencing non-profit organizations, the forces affecting the electronics industry are different from those influencing the food industry. Even within the same industry forces will vary. Organizations need to understand the forces that affect them do that can plan for the future. The various environmental forces exist at different levels. At the outer level is institutional environment, then organization’s external environment (macro environment). At this level there are a range of economic, technological, social, cultural, political and international factors that generally affect all organizations. Then there is the organization’s most immediate competitive environment, which is the specific environment comprising the organization’s customers, suppliers and competitors. Spanning both internal and external environments is a third set of forces exerted by various stakeholders. All environments forces can affect many areas of the organization, such as its strategy (for example its choice of geographical markets), its structure, or its production methods. For this reason it is vital for management to undertake environmental analysis to assess: how the environment has changed, how it is likely to change, what impacts these changes are likely to have on the organization, its customers and markets |

The theoretical part of the paper presents the methods of productivity measurement and the most frequently used indexes. The empirical part shows the changes of labour and capital productivity indexes in particular branches of food industry in the studied period. Abstract | The paper presents changes in structure and area of sown of main agricultural products, including: cereals, industrial and fodder plants in the years 1996–2007. The author states, that cereals predominated in the structure of sown area and that decreasing tendency of sown area of potatoes occurred, what is the result of animal output intensification, mainly pigs. The decrease of sugar beets sown area was also observed, chiefly as a result of limited demand for sugar in recent years. The increase of sown area of industrial plants occurred, in particular rape and agrimony. The reason of that tendency is an increase of using rape and agrimony for technical purposes, mainly for biofuel production. |

Abstract | Inflation is one of main factors influencing economy development. This is the reason why monetary policy is aimed at holding down inflation at low level. In Poland in the years 2001–2007 the influence of nominal interest rates on the level of inflation was unmistakable but on the low level. Inflation reacted changes of interest rates the most strongly after 6–7 quarters. The most important demand factor in inflation analysis is domestic demand, especially demand gap. Demand gap was computed by subtracting proportional increase of domestic production from proportional increase of domestic demand. The impact of demand gap on the price level changes was significant, excluding data from the year 2001. Monetary authorities ought to observe demand gap intently, because it can become in future main threat for assumed level of inflation. An increase of final demand combined with the low growth GDP rate and increase of production costs will cause intense rise of price’s level. |

Abstract | The article attempts to present situation and consumer’s opinion about traditional and regional food market in Poland. It describes past and future potential threats resulting from the initial phase of creation of niche food alimentation market in Poland. The article presents fragmentary results of research conducted within a grant-research project implemented with the financial support of Foundation Cooperation Fund, Agro-Smak 2 Programme concerning the opinions of consumers and their attitudes, i.e. inclinations to purchase traditional/regional products in Poland. The research was conducted with the technical help of PENTOR Research International S.A. This review was prepared based on the primary empirical material collected during two rounds of research – round 1 conducted between September 20–25, 2007 (research stage 1) and between October 4–9, 2007 (research stage 2). The research was based on a representative sample of 1028 and 1032 Polish nationals of at least 15 years of age. The researchers re159 lied on Omnibus type of research using direct interview technique (face-to-face interviews at respondents’ homes) aided by state-of-the art recording and data processing technique – computer record. The aim of the research was to determine the respondents’ level of declarative knowledge of Polish traditional/regional food products and to define a potential group of purchasers of these products, as well as to find out whether the products, which apply for official EU registration, are purchased by consumers, at least from time to time. Questions were grouped in thematic groups. The goal was to collect feedback from respondents concerning their awareness and frequency of purchase of traditional/regional food products as chosen from among the range of different products of the same category available in the market. The questionnaire was also expected to reveal the respondents’ determination to purchase the products in question in the future as well as to unveil possible assumptions behind not purchasing the products concerned and behind the consumers’ attempts to seek for information on the products under analysis. |

Abstract | Warsaw Stock Exchange in the years 2007 was characterized by the highest capitalization among stock exchanges of new member countries of the European Union and it is the middle size stock exchange in Europe. At the end of the year 2007 the index of capitalization of domestic companies to gross domestic product of Poland amounted to 47.3%, what shows at quantitative and qualitative development of Warsaw Stock Exchange and well realized strategy. WSE is characterized by low liquidity ratio in comparison with exchanges of Central and Eastern Europe. At the end of 2007 liquidity ratio of WSE amounted to 44.3%, when in Hungary amounted to 109,8% and in Czech Republic to 76,2%. |

Abstract | In the result of the EU enlargement not only a united legislative and economical body was formed on European basis, but also the support payments in many branches of economy in the new member states have increased substantially, including those in agriculture and rural development. A brief characteristics of place of agriculture in the economy of the Baltic states and Poland is given in the article, as well as that of the changes in total amount of support achieved before the entry into the EU. The effect of this support upon different agricultural holdings performance parameters (net value added, production net value added, net investments) in the period of years 2002-2006 is studied. A comparative analysis gave basis for the conclusions on the specificity of support use in the economic activity of holdings in different states. |

Abstrakt | |
Abstract | Swine breeding is a branch of agriculture with high level of development and traditional in Belarus. The problem of basic directions in development of swine breeding is examined in the paper. In conclusion the main reserves for growth of the economic efficiency of pork production are found in strengthening of food reserve and using of complete feed mixture balanced on feed protein, increasing of leguminous plants and many other factors. |

Abstrakt | Rozwój przedsiębiorstw w sektorze żywnościowym w Polsce związany jest z tworzeniem przewagi konkurencyjnej w oparciu o markę. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zaprezentowanie wybranych aspektów związanych z rozwojem marki, z wykorzystaniem wyników badan przeprowadzanych wśród 155 przedsiębiorstw sektora żywnościowego. Rozwój marek w sektorze żywnościowym następuje przez różnicowanie architektury marek, strategii pozycjonowania i identyfikatorów wizualnych, jak również przez działania zwiększające kapitał marki oraz przez modyfikacje produktów istniejących i wprowadzanie rozwiązań lateralnych. |
Abstract | Development of companies in the food sector in Poland is related to creation of a brandbased competitive advantage. The aim of this study is a presentation of selected aspects of brand development basing on results of an investigation in 155 food companies. Brand development in the food sector is related to a differentiation of brand architecture, positioning strategies and visual identifiers as well as to activities increasing brand equity. A special attention was given to such directions of brand development as modification of current products and development of lateral innovations. |

Abstrakt | W polskim przemyśle spożywczym trwają procesy koncentracji i konsolidacji przejawiające się w przejmowaniu przedsiębiorstw tego przemysłu przez krajowych i międzynarodowych inwestorów. Doprowadziły one do znacznej koncentracji w niektórych działach przemysłu spożywczego, a szczególnie w produkcji piwa, wina oraz wyrobów tytoniowych. Jednak stopień koncentracji przemysłu spożywczego jest wyraźnie mniejszy niż całego przemysłu przetwórczego. Wynika to ze specyfiki produkcji żywności charakteryzującej się między innymi relatywnie małą majątkochlonnością i dużą pracochłonnością, silnym powiązaniem zakładów przetwórczych z rynkami lokalnymi oraz różnorodnością asortymentową i krótkimi seriami produkcji. |
Abstract | Concentration and consolidation processes manifesting themselves in takeovers of industry enterprises by domestic and international investors take place in the Polish food industry. These processes have led to a considerable concentration in some branches of food industry, particularly in the production of beer, wine and tobacco products. Nevertheless the degree of concentration in the food industry is substantially lower than that in the whole of processing industry. It results from the specificity of production of food being characterized, among others, by a relatively small capital intensity combined with a great labour intensity, a strong linkage of food-processing plants with local markets, a diversity of products and short series of production |
