Abstract | The aim of the article is to present the challenges in the field of agriculture related to implementing the European Green Deal (EGD). These challenges arise from the implementation of sustainable development strategies and the related efforts to arrest climate change and create a more circular economy. During this time of a global Covid-19 pandemic, it is worth preparing an approach, based on the principles set out in the EGD, that will maximize opportunities for agricultural development and which can be put into place as soon as the pandemic begins to wane. The article presents a number of possibilities in this regard. |

Autor | Ákos Bartha, Bálint Horváth |
Tytuł | Effects of Certain Personal Attributes on Food Waste |
Title | Effects of Certain Personal Attributes on Food Waste |
Słowa kluczowe | food waste, consumer attitude, sustainable consumption |
Key words | food waste, consumer attitude, sustainable consumption |
Abstrakt | With the increase of food supply and the improvement of production processes, the real value of certain food products has been steadily declining over the past decades, which is certainly a trend that has seriously transformed the moral value of food, its role in society and its associated personal attitudes. According to UN and FAO estimates, in 2016, 30-35% of our food was wasted. Food waste in households is also a special area of research in terms of their high wasting rate. While exploring the causes of high amounts of consumer waste, a research group has also correlated (with mathematical models) the gradual growth rate of food waste, the US obesity epidemic and the growing supply of cheaper food products (Hall et al. 2009). In our research, we examine certain personal aspects in case of specific (e.g. functional) foods as well. A significant decrease in food waste coming from households could be attained by controlling our attitudes. Food waste, consumption awareness, eating habits, food mileage, water footprint, sustainable eating, energy efficiency: these are all terms which have to have their meaning and importance taught to people, as they contain important – affecting the level of wasting – information. Therefore, we can see that food waste itself is one of the most serious, paradoxical and global modern issues which the developed world has identified, and is trying to decrease by using national and international interventions in order to limit food supply anomalies and environmental loads as much as possible. Understanding personal attributes more precisely might be a good practice for providing future solutions, as well. |

Title | Food Losses and Food Waste Versus Circular Economy |
Słowa kluczowe | food, circular economy, waste and food waste, food losses |
Key words | food, circular economy, waste and food waste, food losses |
Abstrakt | The article aims to introduce the issue of food waste and all attempts to prevent action. Business and politics are almost interdependent, and any discussion of an economic nature is not complete without a political contribution. The role of politics and politicians in shaping economic activities was and is widely discussed. In the article, there will be a discussion on the problems of food losses and waste in Poland as the member of EU and in India. The idea of the topic came during the tenure of collaboration between representatives of both departments. Conclusions of the study found some similarities and a lot of differences between the countries. Studies have shown that negative attitude of house-hold towards food waste is not frequently reflected in consumers’ behavior, despite their fundamental knowledge on how to reduce food waste. Properly selected and presented information will stimulate both consumer’s attitude and behavior. |

Title | The Problem of Food Waste in Different Types of Households on the Example of the Residents of Poland and Polish People Residing in the United Kingdom – Pilot Study |
Słowa kluczowe | waste food, household |
Key words | waste food, household |
Abstrakt | The objective of this study was comparing the scale of food waste depending on different types of households among Poles living in Poland and in the UK. The research was conducted in the group of 622 persons, whereas 345 persons lived in Poland and 277 were residing in the UK for minimum 2 years, however not longer than 10 years. The respondents were differentiated depending on the type of the household in which they lived: 1-person, 2-person, 3-person, 4-person and more. More than the half of the respondents declared that they had happened to throw away food, whereas these are the “British” Poles who waste food most and who are comprised in 1- and 2-person households. A significant dependence was observed in both studied groups, the more numerous the household was the lesser amount of food was wasted. The mostly wasted food included bread, yoghurts, sausage, fruit and vegetables, regardless of the number of persons in the given household or of the place of residence. Due to the fact that the rate of food waste is so high, it is necessary to find a way to implement new ideas and interventions which would limit the food waste in the households. |

Title | Wasting of food and rational food management in the households of Polish and Swedish students |
Słowa kluczowe | żywność, marnotrawstwo, gospodarstwo domowe, student |
Key words | food, wastage, household, student |
Abstrakt | Ograniczenie marnotrawstwa żywności w całym łańcuchu jej dostaw to jedno z kluczowych wyzwań dalszego rozwoju świata. |
Abstract | Reducing food waste in the entire food supply chain is one of the key challenges to further development of the world. In developed countries the highest food wastage is observed in the final stages of the chain, mainly at the consumption stage. The aim of this study was to compare different aspects of food wastage in households of selected consumer groups i.e. students of life sciences universities in Poland and Sweden. Own questionnaire studies were conducted in the years 2014 and 2015 on a sample of 234 consumers: 132 Polish and 102 Swedish ones. Polish students more often declared behaviours proving or leading to irrational management of food. Respondents from Sweden behaved more rationally when it comes to using food surpluses and less often declared the majority of the causes of food wastage. The results indicate the necessity to publicize the issue of food waste, especially undertaking actions aiming at its reduction in the consumption processes in the households. |

Abstract | The primary challenge of global food system is to provide food for nearly 800 million starving people and the next generations of constantly growing population. One of the solutions to this challenge is to reduce food wastage, which is especially high in the households of developed countries. Considering this fact, the analysis of a questionnaire study among WULS students determines their knowledge and awareness of food waste issues, and most often wasted food products. The study also tests the attitudes of respondents towards food waste and its consequences. Results showed that baker’s good, fruit and vegetables were the most often wasted food while these products are recommended to consume in largest amounts. Respondents wrongly indicated that food service is the food chain sector with the highest food waste in Poland. The reduction of respondent’s disposable income was recognized as the most important effect of food waste. In conclusion, it can be stated that the higher knowledge and awareness of food wastage issues can contribute to reduction of the scale of the problem and improvement of food consumption. |
