Abstrakt | The article aimed to present the state of the organization of the fruit and vegetable market in Poland in 2020. Based on a library query and available registers, changes in the number of producer groups and organiza tions, their members, and the selected organizational form and category of products offered in Poland in 2004-2020 were presented. After the introduction of legislative changes in 2012, limiting the co-financing of the market organization process, a chronic decrease in both the number of existing fruit and vegetable producer organizations and their members is noticeable. Such a long-term trend may lead to a decline in the market organization and bargaining power of domestic producers. To prevent further disintegration of pro ducer groups and organizations, it is suggested that they should be provided with institutional support that would be long-lasting and stable. |

Abstrakt | The aim of this article was to initiate a discussion on the possibility of implementing the paradigm of sustainable agriculture by integrated fruit and vegetable producers. On the basis of the literature review the concept of industrial and sustainable agriculture and the dual model combining the advantages of both ideas were presented. Research has shown that institutional solutions have inspired horticulturists to join producer groups/ /organisations, resulting in an increase in the number of products offered on the domestic and international market. The strength of the correlation analysed between the number of producer groups/organisations and the selected characteristics of the fruit and vegetable market showed that integrated producers have a greater impact on the vegetable market than fruit. This impact had the properties of industrial agriculture. The structure of Polish groups/organisations in terms of their number allows us to suppose that, as small, often family businesses, they have premises to implement the paradigm of sustainable agriculture using the dual model. However, such an idea requires further long-term institutional support. |

Abstrakt | Celem opracowania była ocena poziomu integracji przestrzennej rynków hurtowych owoców i warzyw na przykładzie fasoli szparagowej. W pracy podjęto problem mechanizmu powiązań cenowych i transmisji cen pomiędzy rynkami hurtowymi. Do opracowania wykorzystano dzienne notowania cen analizowanego gatunku na pięciu rynkach hurtowych w Polsce. Do opracowania danych posłużyły metody ekonometryczne tj. wybrane modele ekonometrii dynamicznej. Wskazano, że znaczenie poszczególnych rynków hurtowych w kreowaniu cen zależy m.in. od wielkości rynku oraz jego lokalizacji. |
Abstract | The aim of the study was to assess the level of spatial integration of wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Poland based on the example of green bean, with respect to the results of research on a global scale. The paper discusses the problem of the price mechanism and transmission between the wholesale markets. The daily price quotations of the analyzed species on five wholesale markets in Poland were used for the study. Econometric methods, that is selected models of dynamic econometrics, were used to develop the data. |

Abstrakt | Albania has considerable potential for growth in the fruit and vegetable market. Its climate-arable conditions are very adequate for the successful growth of a wide range of fruits and vegetables. Albania has an interior market in development and a non structured exporting market. The study is aimed at estimating and identifying export growth opportunities and constraints for fruit and vegetable exporters. The paper investigates the opinions of producers and exporters in south-west Albania. A face-to-face interview survey method was conducted. Database elaboration was made through the SPSS program. An ordinary probit regression was used to evaluate the constraints of fruit and vegetable producers in Albania. We conclude that there are several problems that hamper exportation growth in Albania. Albanian producers are usually not able to penetrate into foreign markets because they are not part of consolidated marketing distribution channels. |

W artykule przeprowadzonoanalizę wieloletnią głównych charakterystyk rynku owoców: zbiorów, cen i spożycia oraz kluczowezałożenia reformy rynku owoców z uwzględnieniem polskiego stanowiska i postulatów zmian. |
Abstract | The situation on the fruit market seemed particularly difficult in 2007 considering twoevents which took place almost at the same time. First concerns the reform of the fruit market plannedby the European Commission for 2008-2013, second involves the estimation of losses andconsequence of spring ground frost which damaged Polish orchards. A multiannual analysis of maincharacteristics of the fruit market was presented in the article. It covered crops, prices and theconsumption and the crucial principles of the fruit market reform regarding the Polish attitude andpostulates of changes. The situation in the Polish market is difficult and greatly complicated in spite ofthe potential for fruit production, the tradition of cultivation and chances it provides. Losses due toexternal factors, such as spring ground frost (2007) and proposed fruit reform (2008-2013) puttingPoland in the second-class position of countries in the accessibility to the EU funds. The difficult situation poses a challenge not only for Polish fruit producers but also for the new EUmembers (with the low degree of the market organization). Also representatives of some ‘old’ EUmember states and food processors are dissatisfied with the proposal of the reform, therefore thereform will be a great negotiating challenge |

Key words | fruit and vegetable market, consumption, promotion, 5 a day |
Abstrakt | |
Abstract | Promoting fruit and vegetable consumption is one of the main objectives of food and nutrition policy interventions worldwide. Public institutions, non-governmental organizations, research and health agencies together with market stakeholders undertake integrated initiatives to inform consumers about the health benefits of everyday fruit and vegetable intake. In the European Union several campaigns aimed at increasing produce demand have been launched in the nineties to improve the dietary patterns of the general population or specific consumer groups, such as children. However statistics show that fruit and vegetable intake in most EU states including new members is much below the recommended level. School-aged children, women and employees are currently the main target groups of “5 a day’ information and promotion activities aimed at increasing f&v consumption. In order to secure long-term effectiveness of such programs the main determinants of consumer choice in the food market should be monitored. Broad public-private partnerships, including producers and distributors seem to be the key to strengthening the efforts at “pushing’ market demand. Some of the campaigns developed and implemented in the European Union countries can be described as “5 a day’ best practices. The involvement of fruit and vegetable chain participants, cooperation and evaluation of undertaken interventions are further needed in order for the programs to become more efficient and widespread. |
