The paper discusses some theoretical aspects of the spatial inequality of wages and presents a comparative analysis of intraregional diversity of wages in Polish regions. The study regards the districts at NUTS-4 level for the years 2004–2014. It was stated that in 7 regions of central and western Poland a decrease of intraregional diversity of wages took place. In the eastern part of Poland such process did not appear.

Marketing aspect of young consumer behaviour in food industry management

In the age of market globalisation, characterised, among other things, by high intensity of competition among enterprises, it is increasingly important to have broadly understood knowledge about consumers, their needs, expectations, habits, aspirations and, above all, determinants of such behaviour. Food manufacturers, in order to survive on the increasingly competitive market of food products, have to monitor factors shaping consumer behaviour on the market, which are subject to constant changes, and to explore the determinants of changes. As part of the research a questionnaire survey was conducted on the population of 200 people – a group of German school pupils aged 12–16. The research procedure was a direct questionnaire survey. The spatial extent of the questionnaire survey was the area of Brandenburg. The substantive scope of the questionnaire survey included issues related with the process of taking decisions by consumers about purchase of particular food products and factors affecting such decisions.

In Poland, meat is sold mostly in unpackaged form. However, due to the changing needs of the clients who look for convenience, packaged beef is gaining popularity. Consumers become more interested in the information placed on the packaging. According to the research, the consumers are willing to read information concerning the quality class of the meat, as well as the price. Moreover, the clients pay attention to the quality labels and potential influence of the beef consumption on their health.

In Poland, a growing consumer interest in organic food is observed, contributing to the development of this market. The aim of this article is to determine the influence of the level of consumer awareness of organic products on the purchasing decisions. The study shows that the state of knowledge about organic food is still too low. The level of knowledge determines appropriate defining the characteristics of organic food. The research shows that consumers characterized by higher level of knowledge on organic products, state that the most important product criterion is a natural way of production, without chemical additives. They pay more attention to health characteristics such as nutritional value and freshness of the products. The efforts to raise the consumers’ awareness and increase their interest in organic food products is also important.

In the company’s financial strategy the capital structure plays a special role influencing the degree of financial risk taken. The search for the best sources of financing, the most effective investment opportunities are the basic decisions of financial market participants. Therefore, it is important to find the answer to the question how the changes of capital structure influence the investors’ choices and the company’s market valuation. The article presents basic elements of the theory of capital structure with an attempt to assess its impact on the market value of companies on Polish capital market.

The minimum wage is the wage policy instrument, entailing both economic and social consequences. Supporters of the minimum wage emphasize its role in reducing poverty and reducing income inequalities. In turn, opponents focus on its economic effects, i.e. increase in labor costs and decline in employment. The article focuses on identifying the impact of the minimum wage on reducing poverty and income inequality. The first part contains definitions and the economic and social functions of the minimum wage. The next section presents changes in the minimal salary level in Poland and its relation to the average salary in the years 2003–2014. The rest of the article attempts to assess the effectiveness of raising the minimum wage in combating poverty and reducing income inequality. The effectiveness of this solution is minimal, both in terms of the whole society, as well as socio-economic group, which should benefit most from these effects, i.e. employees.

This paper presents changes in trade which have been taking place over the past few years. The author presented directions of development that we will probably experience within 2–3 years. The data shows significant development of e-commerce, as well as growing interest in online purchasing in the segment of FMCG products (also via tablets and smartphones). These changes induce to think what will be the consequences of further development of e-commerce for already well-known relationships between product packaging and consumers’ purchasing decisions. The author presented the concept of e-packaging, which has not been used so far in the scientific mainstream. Since it is a relatively new issue, it has not been explored yet. Nevertheless, it is certainly worth to carry out research on.

The work considers income discrepancies occurring in Poland in urban-rural configuration in 2005–2013. The general hypothesis had been stated that income discrepancies in rural areas do not increase and are not different in their nature from those occurring in urban areas. The results of the research conducted confirmed the increase of the income discrepancies in rural areas and their decrease in cities. In rural areas, the measure most correlated with Gini index was the unemployment rate – Pearson’s correlation coefficient r (–0,82). On the basis of the research conducted it is impossible to state firmly that the decrease of unemployment rate fosters the increase of income discrepancies. It is difficult to determine whether unemployment is the effect of discrepancies or discrepancies are the effect of unemployment. The correlation between the labour force participation rate and Gini index was also negative and showed the strong correlation between the variables – Pearson’s correlation coefficient: (–0,70).

Zadania i miejsce komórki controllingu w przedsiębiorstwie

The paper presents the tasks and place of controlling department in the company. The controller, who is at its forefront, plays the role of economic advisor for the management board. The main tasks of the department are to prepare operational as well as strategic plans, budgeting of costs, revenues and results within short period of time, monitoring the deviations from the budgets and plans and investigating the source of these deviations. The solutions regarding to the role and the place of controlling department in organizational structure are very individual and flexibly adopted to the management board needs. This is proven by the empirical examples given in this paper. In the first stage of controlling introduction process, controlling department is subordinated to CEO. Later, when the position of the department is settled in the company, the CFO takes the control over it. In domestic capital groups financial controlling departments or capital supervision departments over subsidiary companies are additionally formed. In international corporations there are controlling departments on several levels of organizational structure, subordinated to the central controller.

The purpose of this study is to set out what is currently known about the competitiveness of the countries and regions as well as of sectors and individual enterprises in the national economy from the point of view of understanding the concept of competitiveness, its measurement and determinants. This paper critically examines both theoretical and empirical literature on the competitiveness, finding out that competitiveness is a very complex, multifaceted phenomenon or process and has many uses in different (macro, meso and micro) domains. The empirical studies on competitiveness apply a variety of competitiveness measures and determinants making it sometimes difficult to compare their results across countries, regions, sectors and enterprises.

It is the universities’ duty to discover and transmit knowledge and competences through scientific research and educating students. Decision to undertake university studies, among people from rural areas, is aimed at eliminating the possibility of educational exclusion. The aim of the article is to build a profile of a student from rural areas, divided by gender, in the context of meeting the needs and aspirations connected with education. When creating the student profile, only those characteristics that occurred statistically significant relationship with respect to gender, were taken into account. The results correspond with research conducted since the seventies of the twentieth century in Poland. There are similar results concerning the reasons to undertake tertiary education, choice of the faculties, and sources of information concerning studies.

The paper aims to determine the impact of direct payments on the labour productivity of farms. Our research was carried out on individual farms (participating in the EU-FADN) in Silesian region (NUTS 2) (for years 2005–2008). The studies indicated that the main part of available labour resources in farms accounted the farmer’s own labour. The highest labour productivity was observed on the largest farms, both in terms of area and economic size, and in those with „field crops” type. Labour productivity in farms increased with the increase of the funds from direct payments. The farms with the highest level of direct payments make better use of available labour resources.

The paper presents rural and urban households’ expenditures on consumption goods and services and their change in years 2006–2014. Consumption expenditure price changes in this span was also analysed with the use of Central Statistical Office’s data. In the analysed years the share of expenditure on clothing and footwear and on restaurants and hotels increased in real terms in both rural and urban households, what can be evaluated positively. Consumption expenditure structure differences between urban and rural households decreased between 2006 and 2014.
