The paper presents the results of research carried out in companies that received grants under the program of increasing competitiveness. The level and directions of the use of financial resources received by enterprises and their impact on the economic situation of business units immediately after their acquisition and after several years were recognized. It was found that the grant did not have a “pro-development effect”, and even financial support from the outside reduced innovation, because it was easier to obtain a grant than to improve the functioning of the company. Research has not confirmed the positive impact of subsidies on businesses, and even in some industries (transport, IT), the level of subsidies was negatively correlated with the debt or liquidity ratios.

The study encompasses the assessment of which scale small and medium enterprises in Poland use bank credits to finance business. Moreover, the barriers and constraints of SMEs in the access to such financing source have been defined. The classification and assessment of the significance of particular constraints have been performed by means of the reasons for credit passiveness of SMEs and their credit exclusion.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the competitive position of the cooperative banks and their ability to create the growth trends and effectively acquire new customers in the micro-company segment. The sources of the empirical data were the results of the nation-wide surveys conducted on a representative sample of N = 800 companies with up to 10 employees and an annual turnover of up to 2 m EUR. The analysis included the market shares, familiarity, brand potential and image as well as the customer satisfaction. The cooperative banks do not fully use their advantages in building their competitive advantage. A stable base of the “regular” customers contributes to their high market shares. The cooperative banks are not preferred by the prospective customers. The competitive position of the cooperative banks is based on the niche areas where the cooperative banks operate and the service costs as well as the emotional circumstances of operating on the local market. The application of the marketing tools is inevitable and should be the elementary part of the support provided for the cooperative banks.

The aim of the article is identifying and presenting selected internal factors shaping the competitiveness of bakery enterprises, taking into account their size in terms of the employees number. The source material for the analysis was the data collected during the empirical study conducted in 2016 among 77 companies in the industry. The basic research tool was the questionnaire survey. Micro, small, medium and large enterprises have pointed to various factors that according them are most important for building competitiveness in their industry. The most prominent companies are micro and large enterprises. The greatest correspondence between the four groups of companies occurred in the case of factors related to production potential and potential in the product sphere. On the contrary, bakery companies were the least consistent in their opinion on the factors in the sale.

The aim of this article was to collect the achievements of luminaries of agribusiness finance and to indicate current and future research directions. The origin of finance of agribusiness – a separate area of research in relation to finance in general – has its anchorage in the specificity of entities operating in the sphere of agribusiness. Starting from the debates of coryphaeus of agribusiness finance, through the research conducted at the turn of the 20th and 21st century, all the uncertainties surrounding the financial decision-making and their effects on agriculture have not been resolved. There is still a wide field of research – and even with the increase in the pace of change in the macro-economy and in the world – more and more doubts arise about the decisions dedicated to agricultural entrepreneurs. There is therefore a wide range of research that can be identified as agribusiness finances, characterized by specificities, including the dependence of production on livelihoods, strong dependence on natural factors, and limited mobility of rural populations.

The impact of the global financial crisis on the value relevance of earnings in the Polish banking sector

Celem artykułu jest weryfikacja empiryczna wpływu globalnego kryzysu finansowego na znaczenie wyników finansowych dla wartości rynkowej podmiotów w polskim sektorze bankowym. Badaniem objęto wszystkie banki z siedzibą w Polsce notowane na Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie w latach 2000–2015. Ramy metodyczne opracowania bazowały na modelu Ohlsona z wykorzystaniem analizy wielorakiej regresji liniowej. Uzyskane wyniki są spójne z rezultatami poprzednich badań w literaturze międzynarodowej i wskazują na spadek znaczenia wyników finansowych dla wartości rynkowej w następstwie kryzysu. Ten negatywny wpływ był najbardziej widoczny i istotny statystycznie w okresie następującym bezpośrednio po rozpoczęciu kryzysu (lata 2008–2012) oraz dla jednostkowych wyników finansowych, podczas gdy dla danych skonsolidowanych rezultaty nie były jednoznaczne. Powyższa rozbieżność sugeruje, że spadek znaczenia dla wartości rynkowej można w przeważającej mierze przypisać samej działalności bankowej, co przypuszczalnie odzwierciedlało silne wahania odpisów aktualizujących wartość należności kredytowych. Z kolei bardziej zdywersyfikowana struktura skonsolidowanych wyników finansowych najwyraźniej ograniczyła spadek ich znaczenia dla wartości rynkowej w oczach inwestorów.

The property market is not a unite market and therefore depending on employed criteria can be divided into various segments. In order to provide an analysis the objective criterion is most often used. It refl ects functions of particular properties and on such basis the segment of agricultural properties can be distinguished. The data on agricultural property sales in the whole country scale as well as in provinces can be employed for various purposes, particularly for defining of structural changes in agriculture. In order to do so it is necessary to recognise the background of the property sales, their scope and structure which is the topic of the paper.

The aim of the article was to compare the agricultural work performance in the European Union countries. According to Eurostat data, faster labor efficiency growth was observed in the EU-12 countries, but they “started” at a much lower level. Hence, these results still require further improvement and catching up of EU-15 (“old Union”) countries. Labor efficieny (work performance) in the Polish agricultural sector is among the lowest ones in the EU. In the light of the empirical studies, labor efficiency in the Polish agricultural sector has been ranked among the lowest ones in the EU. This was also confirmed by the review of the literature and the conclusions of numerous authors. As a result, the derivative of this are lower wages. Analysis of factors, determining the theoretical performance of labor, showed potential sources of growth of this size.

The aim of the study was to identify the state and regional diversification of producers’ integration in the agricultural sector, the preferences for the choice of legal forms of companies as well as to present the scope of financial suport granted from national and European funds, and the possibility of financial support in the 2014–2020 perspective. According to the analysis, as of June 30, 2017, financial support for agricultural producer groups was only PLN 882.7 million and for fruit and vegetable producer groups / organizations PLN 7.8 billion, including 98.7% pre-approved groups of fruit and vegetable producers. In the new financial perspective for 2014–2020, agricultural producer groups established in the category of live poultry, meat and edible offal are excluded from financial support, while aid in the fruit and vegetable sector can only be provided to recognized producer organizations for co-financing of the operational fund.

The article offers an analysis of purchase determinants of food for individual consumers in 8 large cities in Poland The analysis has been based on the outcomes of consumer research carried out in years 2015 and 2016 at Poznan University of Economics as well as on other research studies published in Polish sources. As a result, the identification and comparison of basic groups of determinants shaping the purchasing of food products has been provided, as well as the exploratory factor analysis was used for in-depth analysis of data.

Artykuł podejmuje problem konsumpcji produktów żywnościowych w gospodarstwach domowych seniorów. Podstawowym celem tekstu jest przeanalizowanie wydatków na żywność gospodarstw domowych seniorów, częstotliwości robienia zakupów oraz kluczowych czynników wpływających na decyzje osób starszych w tym zakresie. Podstawą analizy jest wywiad kwestionariuszowy przeprowadzony przez autora w latach 2014–2015 wśród osób w wieku 65+ w Polsce. Struktura artykułu jest następująca. Po syntetycznym omówieniu metodologii i założeń badania oraz charakterystyki próby badawczej, w ujęciu teoretycznym, naświetlono, w sposób bardzo ogólny, zagadnienie konsumpcji żywności w gospodarstwach domowych osób starszych. W dalszej części tekstu skoncentrowano się na przeanalizowaniu spożycia żywności w badanych gospodarstwach seniorów, częstotliwości dokonywania zakupów, a następnie na kluczowych determinantach branych pod uwagę przez osoby w wieku 65+ przy podejmowaniu decyzji zakupu produktów żywnościowych.

The aim of the study was to compare the consumers’ choice and satisfaction factors with provided services and product quality on the example of a fast food restaurant chain. Based on the research of both clients and employees, attempts were made to clarify which factors affect the customers choice and satisfaction and staff in this type of gastronomy. It was found that both for customers and employees, the most important factors in the selection and satisfaction of the gastronomy services are the taste of the offered products, the time of order fulfillment and location. High importance for customers also has a favorable price relationship to the quality of the offered dishes. The differences observed are most closely related to the assessment of the service aspects, which are assessed above by the staff. Customers in their opinions show rationalism, their opinions are stronger polarized and the differences between the most important and least important factors are very clear. Employees tend to consider both the choice and satisfaction factors more broadly, which is reflected in the smaller differences in evaluations of individual factors.

The aim of the study was to evaluate an impact of selected characteristics of apples as potential demand factors. It seemed interesting to find if an increasing this awareness could increase demand for these fruits. Apples, because of their pro-health properties and especially the antoxidant action, should be consumed regularly and in high amounts. Unfortunately, for the last years a downward trend in fruit consumption in Poland has been observed. The survey made on consumers’ preferences shows that the pro-health properties have the smallest impact on purchase of apples for most of consumers and only 20% buyers take this property into account. For 75% respondents the most important feature affecting a scale of apple purchase is fruit appearance. Therefore, even if some consumers buy apples because of their pro-health properties this feature is not the most important for their decision.
