Abstract

An important feature of development of food industry in the last years is a growing share of production in big industrial plants. It happens so mainly, because of the concentrations processes that have place in the food industry. The biggest concentrations have been taking place in meat, milk and cereals processing industry. A major role in this industry plays transnational corporations which take control over the Polish firms. Acquisitions by foreign investors have had various influences on the overtaken firms. Research results indicate that decreasing profitability and net income per employee was an effect of acquisitions in the majority of the overtaken firms. It shows that western investors have had other priorities than increase of profitability and efficiency of operations
