Abstract

The number of projects run by companies during the last twenty years has increased significantly. The amount of information regarding the projects became more voluminous. The acquisition of adequate data needed for financial man agement became more challenging. New ways allowing individuals to gather information for managerial purposes were sought. In the 1990’s, the concept of Project Management Office (PMO) was proposed, which served as a knowledge database/repository on projects. The article presents the possibility of using PMO for the purposes of gathering and systematising data. Based on the research conducted to date, companies’ needs for the efficacious usage of PMO and for the acquisition and processing of data are discussed.
