The Economic Situation of Cooperative Banks in the Years of 2000–2011

In the years 2000–2010 Polish cooperative banking sector was characterized by a strong and stable economic situation. In particular, the period 2000–2006 indicated a huge potential for cooperative banks, which allowed them to systematically increase the market share. Fundamental changes in the cooperative arrangements aimed at Western Europe – the merger of two banks associations and the ability to issue bonds by the cooperative banks, while viability of the sector and its high potential point to the significant development opportunities, further strengthening the capital and the ability to make better use of economies of scale, allowing both reduce operating costs, as well as improve the effectiveness of cooperative banks and allow the dynamic development of new technologies.
