Abstract
The paper shows the history of quality management with focus on contemporary trends in this field. It describes the assumptions of compulsory quality management and food safety systems and of the most important non- mandatory quality management systems. It discusses the state of implementation of these systems and their benefits. There is also presented the influence of the implementation on costs incurred by enterprises, on the growth of products export and on the level of competitiveness of enterprises.
