Abstrakt	The article presents information concerning changes undergoing on the EU market of fresh apples between 2000–2010. The author shows changes in production, consumption, foreign trade and prices, of the main stakeholders (producers, consumers, exporters and importers), including Poland. Secondary sources of information were used for the analysis, originating from Faostat 2012 and GUS data bases. The analysis was carried out under a research project (grant agreement No 3745/B/H03/2011/40), which was funded by National Science Centre. The analysis involved comparative as well as descriptive methods.

Abstrakt	Subjective assessment of the economic situation of the farm is an important research issue, since it affects the quality of farmers’ life and their decisions connected with agriculture production. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify the socio-economic determinants of subjective assessment of the economic situation of individual farms, based on surveys carried out on a sample of nearly 400 farmers in Podlaskie region. In order to identify factors explaining the level of subjective assessment of economic situation of farms multiple regression model was used. The results indicate that the subjective assessment of the economic situation and the condition of farms include: (a) structural factors such as the annual income from the farm and its size, (b) individual factors: intention to provide the farm to children what expresses the commitment and dedication of the farmer to his farm, and (c) the degree of modern methods used in farm production.

Title	Changes in the structure of economic activity of people aged 50+ in Poland

Abstrakt	The paper presents an analysis of changes in the structure of economic activity of the population in the older working age (50–64 years) in Poland, divided into three age groups. The study period covered the years 1993 to 2013. In addition to classical measures of structure, the synthetic measures of the intensity in structure transformation were used. They were described with the use of base value or year-over-year comparisons, an important complement to the traditional methods in this field. The study revealed little change in the structure of economic activity covered by the study in a dynamic, whereby the lowest stability was observed in the age group 55–59 years. In addition, during the period 2006–2013 an increase in the involvement of mature and older people in the labor market was observed.

Title	The importance of cross-border traffic in the socio-economic development of the eastern Polish communes

Abstrakt	The aim of this research was to recognize the importance of cross-border movement for the development of communes located along the eastern border. The research was carried out in two communes: Terespol and Piszczac. The analysis showed that the communes are rural and they are characterized by a low degree of entrepreneurship. High unemployment contributes to the migration of people to urban centres or abroad. Border traffic is an important element of economic life in such regions. Entrepreneurs and traders use a passive trade policy in relation to consumers across the eastern border. Such policy raises concerns about the further cooperation. Socio-economic development of the communes requires institutional support for small businesses and improvement of professional skills of the unemployed. What is more, taking advantage of natural values to develop tourism and recreation offer and increasing trade and cooperation with companies from the East are equally significant.

Abstrakt	The paper presents the main aspects of rapeseed production and processing in Ukraine in the context of Ukraine’s joining EU. Current situation of rapeseed market and some aspects of exporting activity in this sphere were characterized. A set of possible directions of development of the situation in Ukraine including possible influences of UE’s policy in the sphere of alternative energy sources were presented, as well as changes of volumes of rape production. The paper also analyses the activity of Ukrainian government connected to the rapeseed production and processing, including avoidance of possible pathological Ukraine’s transformation into mere Europe’s raw materials’ supplier.

The extent of their usefulness has been assessed and exemplified by pkt.pl Polish Telephone Directory. As a result of the surveys, the most effective – according to the employees – IT communication tools were chosen.

Title	Determinants of implementing reorganization programmes in public universities

Abstrakt	Universities and colleges prepare financial plans that are their budgets, and are obliged to control the costs, revenues and financial results. This study presents the determinants of preparing reorganization programmes leading to financial balance in public higher education institutions. The authors examined public universities, divided into 10 groups according to the method used by Central Statistical Office in Poland. The paper presents analysis of costs, revenues and financial results of the universities for the years 2007–2011. The analysis of basic dimensions of the universities’ activeness, with special emphasis on the educational and scientific dimension as well as associated with the development of the economic/local community, revealed the problem of too high costs or achieving too low earnings. On one hand, this is probably due to too small expenditures on higher education, on the other hand, because of ineffective use of the university resources. If there is no strict supervision over the level of costs of basic tasks carried out by universities, introducing a recovery programme may, in the future, concern most public universities. It will happen if their core activity (mainly educational) is not brought to balance between revenue and costs.

Title	Tailor-made education – system of courses selection at Faculty of Economic Sciences from student perspective

Abstrakt	In 2008 new courses selection system was introduced at Faculty of Economic Sciences at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The main aim of the system had been facilitating students in adjusting study profile to their needs. Just after the introduction a research regarding acceptance of the system and quality of the offer has been undertaken among full time students [Wąs and Kłoczko-Gajewska 2009]. This paper summarizes results of new research, which was conducted 4 years after launching of the system. It covers not only opinions on the system itself and presented offer but also students’ evaluation of taken courses and information on their professional activity. The results show that students are quite satisfied both with studying on the Faculty of Economic Sciences and with the system of courses selection. While choosing among subjects the students take into consideration mainly usefulness of the courses in their professional career, conformity with study profile and eagerness in deepening knowledge in certain field. However, public opinion on the teachers and quality of the courses are also important issues. When asked to present main weaknesses of the system, the respondents pointed out: possibility of being taught similar issues on different courses, insufficient share of practical knowledge and cases of inadequate involvement of the lecturers. Additionally, the results show serious professional activity of full time students. It leads to reflection if benefits from gaining experience are not paid with lower level of education.

Abstrakt	The article presents problems concerning non – financial investments, their range, classification and measurement based on Polish accounting law. Possibilities of initial value calculations of different groups of investments were presented. The rules of measurement after initial recognition as well as the depreciation of investment property were described here. The valuation models used at the balance sheet date were depictured – historical cost model, fair value model and lower price model. External and internal indications of impairment as well as the procedure of tests for impairment were described in the article. Problems of operational and investment assets reclassification were mentioned. Treatment and allocation of results of valuation and selling non – financial investments were presented. The rules of gains and losses presentation in an income statement were criticized.

Abstrakt	Research issues include the physical investment financing in Polish nonfinancial corporations in 1995 to 2011. The purpose of this study is to identify the structure of physical investment financing in Polish non-financial corporations, and to define the role of bank financing. The data used in the estimation of physical investment financing structure in Polish non-financial corporations, were obtained from two accounts belonging to the accumulation accounts, i.e. the capital account and the financial account. The study used net sources of finance methodology initiated by Mayer [1988, 1990], Corbett and Jenkinson [1994, 1997]. It uses the flow of funds rather than stock data.

Abstrakt	The aim of the research was to identify the dependence between strategies of liquidity and effectiveness of joint-stock companies from agribusiness sector. Joint-stock companies with conservative strategies of liquidity were characterized by higher economic effectiveness. The reason for such a situation were higher rates of return from operations as well as comparatively lower cost of capital in these companies. It was noticed the decrease of the level of effectiveness accompanying the growth of the aggressiveness of strategies of liquidity. This means that the higher risk of liquidity led to lower ratios of profitability and shareholders’ value.

They have their advantages and disadvantages. Some of the corporate tax incentives are described in this paper. Theoretical analysis of neutrality is an essential tool applied to this research. Lack of neutrality proves that tax system awards some company activities and, therefore, it states the level of their income.

Title	Regional strategic groups in food industry in Poland

Abstrakt	This paper identifies and examines the regional strategic groups for food industry basing upon McKinsey’s modified matrix. An analysis of regional strategic groups being understood as concentration of similar regions regarding sector attractiveness as well as position and competitive potential what allows proposing acceptable strategic activities both for regions and enterprises localized on their area. The survey shows that in Poland only Masovian region is predestinated to realize development strategies in food industry. Great Poland region (Wielkopolska) is recommended to use selective options analysis as well as for enterprises operating on that market. In considering the supporting strategies basing upon selective growth, it is the most advantageous for Silesia region, South Silesia region and Minor Poland (Małopolska), Pomorze region. The strategy of profit maximizing and withdrawal strategy can be used in the following regions; Łódź region, Opole region, Lubuskie region, Podkarpacie region, Lublin region, Podlasie region, Świętokrzyski region, Warmia-Mazury region, Kujawsko- Pomorskie region.

Abstrakt	Even in the knowledge-based economy era tangible assets still matters. It is because the value of intangible assets steams from the combined bundle of both tangible and intangible resources. Therefore it is important issue to assess how investments in fixed assets are connected with business performance. This problem seems to be particularly interesting in the case of Polish dairy industry. It is important part of European and Polish agribusiness system. During transition in Poland a lot of investments in dairy industry were already done. There is substantial overcapacity noticed in this sector. However empirical evidence done on 18 Polish dairy cooperatives shows the positive correlation between modernity of fixed assets and intensity of developing them and economic performance of dairies.

Abstrakt	The work concerns the liquidity of dairy farms of various scale. The empirical data comes from Polish FADN for years 2004–2009. The article examines the share of fixed assets in total assets, the equity in total liabilities, the share of short-term loans in total liabilities, current ratio and liquidity ratio fast. It was observed, among others, that all of the groups of farms systematically limited the role of external financing (debts).

Author describes the motives and the legal and formal aspects about creation of communal association. Municipal waste management is one of the many tasks of the municipality, which is associated with the protection of the environment, also remaining in the duties of the municipality. This is an area very broad, requiring both expensive infrastructure and adequate organization of the municipality. High capital investment and significant expenditure on the maintenance and the fact that such a task often beyond the financial and organizational individual municipalities, encourages governments to cooperate in this field.
