Abstrakt	W opracowaniu poddano analizie pozycję rolnictwa polskiego w Unii Europejskiej (25). Ma to stanowić podstawę wyjścia do konstruowania strategii jego rozwoju. Mówiąc o strategii miano na myśli strategię w ujęciu pozycja, czyli umiejscowienie polskiego rolnictwa na tle rolnictwa państw Unii. Pod względem poziomu myślano o strategii funkcjonalno-operacyjnej obejmującej podejmowanie decyzji, które ukierunkowują działania w obszarze wsi i rolnictwa. Rolnictwo polskie już obecnie stanowi ważną część rolnictwa Unii, a po podwyższeniu produkcyjności roślin i zwierząt do poziomu średniego w Unii, pozycję tę jeszcze bardziej poprawi
Abstract	Poland as a member state of the EU follows the Common Agricultural Policy with limitations resulting from the accession treaty. Rural areas and agriculture play an important role in Poland. Rural areas comprise 93.2 % of country’s area and are populated with 38.5% of the total population. For a significant part of the rural population, working and gaining income from agriculture are the base of existence. Polish agriculture has a high position in the EU in production of basic plant and animal products both in absolute terms and per capita. Increase in productivity (plants and animals), which at present is low in Poland, will improve this position. In view of the existing agricultural theories and practice, the highest possibility for development is sustainable agriculture, which is also aimed at in the other EU countries. Traditional and more ecological agriculture both will continue to exist. The latter, albeit showing strong growth, still has a limited position

Title	The characteristics of the income tax imposed on farms in the European Union

Abstrakt
Abstract	The Polish tax system for agriculture requires significant reforms, especially in the sphere of income tax. It is crucial to choose an appropriate structure of this tax which should be adjusted both to the needs of agriculture and the economy in general. On the whole, while looking for new solutions, those which already exist may also be useful, because being acquainted with them enables us to use appropriate structures for constructing new taxation system for agriculture and to eliminate previously made mistakes. The article presents special solutions used for the income tax imposed on farms in the EU, which, on the one hand lead to a decrease of fiscal burdens of agriculture, while on the other hand are a hidden form of its support. It also shows solutions used in Germany, France and Italy, as well as in Great Britain and Ireland, which according to the author, represent various types of agriculture and different tax rules. Therefore, they may constitute a relatively good representation of the so-called 15 regular EU states. The focus of the analysis is the personal income tax, which due to its structure relating to the area of taxation and the predominance of family farms, is one of the most important taxes on agriculture in the EU.

Abstrakt	W opracowaniu scharakteryzowano nierolniczą działalność gospodarczą prowadzoną przez rodziny rolnicze w latach 1996-2000. Zidentyfikowano jej formy i rodzaje, czynniki wpływające na podejmowanie tejże działalności oraz możliwości dalszego jej rozwoju. Wskazano zmiany poziomu intensywności produkcji oraz organizacji w badanych gospodarstwach. Pokazano znaczenie działalności nierolniczej w dochodach rolników indywidualnych, a także bariery jej rozwoju.
Abstract	The paper describes non-agriculture activity of the family farms in period 1996-2000. It includes the identification forms of the non-agriculture activity, factors affecting decision to start in and its future development possibilities. The analysis presents changes of the intensity production level and the intensity organization in farms. Influence of the non-agriculture activity on income level of farmers and development barriers were also pointed.

Abstract	The article treats about bee keeping which is a very important element of agriculture. The most important role of bees in environment is plants pollination. Bee colonies produce honey, propolis, bee wax and bee bred. The situation in bee keeping in Poland was critical in the middle of the eighties. The number of apiaries decreased 4 times whereas the number of bee hives decreased 3 times by the end of the nineties. The biggest problems of Polish bee keeping are small average number of trunks in the apiary as well as beekeepers age. They are usually older people and are keeping bees as a hobby. Almost 60% of apiaries have only 20 bee colonies. Such apiaries cannot become the base of beekeeper family livelihood. Only beekeepers that have at least 1 OO colonies in and out apiary can get income high enough to fully support their families. They also have to sell honeybees' products directly to customers. Based on estimations and calculations authors state that Polish bee keeping has a chance to develop in the future. On one hand Polish beekeepers have a chance to get subsidies from EU as well as from Polish government. On the other hand they also have a possibility to gain profits selling their products.
