Abstrakt | Climate change adds extra stress on the current global situations and the regional development plans. Despite, Africa being rated the least among the continents contributing to the atmospheric pollution, it continues to be responsible for the least global emissions (estimated at 4%). Although they contributed to anthropogenic emission slightly, African continent is one of the highly vulnerable to impacts of long-term climate variability and extreme weather events, especially on the Nile. Moreover, developing countries are the most vulnerable to climate change impacts because they have fewer resources to adapt: socially, technologically and financially. Therefore, this paper is seeking to find and modify the regional development process in the frame of climate change along the Nile river. By considering some examples to accelerate the development process and methods in the Nile’s valley regions. Strongly related to the climate change impacts on different sectors and activities such agriculture, industry, energy, and the water supply and demand as well. |

Key words | food supply, European Union, changes, Platform, sustainable diets |
Abstrakt | This paper presents the changes in food supply in selected EU Member states and average EU+ after the establishment of the European Platform for Action in the field of Diet, Physical Activity and Health in 2005. The per capita annual supply of vegetables, fruits, pulses, sugar & sweeteners and the daily values of calories and fat are analysed based on FAO Food Balance Sheet (FBS) data. The supply of vegetables in the EU has decreased since 2005 while that of fruits, pulses and sugar & sweeteners, as well as energy and fat have not changed significantly. The 313 voluntary commitments of Platform members, aimed at promoting healthier food choices and life styles in the region do not seem to have had a significant impact on food supply at population level. Firmer policy measures, incl. fiscal regulations are needed to support these voluntary actions. Sustainability issues should be included in the health-oriented initiatives as food choices contribute not only to the health of individuals but also of the environment as a whole. |

Title | Comparative Analysis of Wind Farms Financial Situation in Selected Countries of the European Union in years 2009-2017 |
Słowa kluczowe | farmy wiatrowe, źródła odnawialne energii, finanse przedsiębiorstw energetycznych |
Key words | wind farms, renewable resources, corporate finance |
Abstract | The aim of the publication was a comparative analysis of selected indicators of the financial situation of enterprises whose main activity is the generation of wind energy and its sale to the power grid. The publication compared selected average values of financial ratios for the following European Union countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary, Great Britain, Italy. The conclusion from the research is the authors observed high profitability of wind farms in Austria, Belgium, Portugal and the United Kingdom, which coincides with the high electricity prices in these countries. Countries with lower energy prices usually recorded worse financial results of wind farms. There are, however, exceptions to this rule (wind farms in Germany, despite high electricity prices, did not achieve very good financial results). |

Title | The Auction System as a New Way to Promote Renewable Energy |
Słowa kluczowe | odnawialne źródła energii, system aukcyjny, rynek OZE |
Key words | renewable energy sources, auction system, renewable energy market |
Materiałem badawczym były materiały statystyczne Eurostatu i GUS-u, dokumenty Komisji Europejskiej, Ministerstwa Energii, Urzędu Regulacji Energetyki, raporty dotyczące systemów wsparcia z krajów europejskich i Polski. Analizy te pozwoliły ocenić dotychczasowe efekty przeprowadzonych aukcji, ich zalety i wady, sformułować wnioski w zakresie zmian organizacyjnych zapewniających sprawne funkcjonowanie systemu aukcyjnego. |
Abstract | The article analyzes both existing and proposed legal acts in the field of promoting and generating energy from renewable sources. The model of energy management based on renewable sources is implemented differently in individual countries. With the increasing share of renewable energy and the level of objectives for the coming years, it is essential that they are achieved with the lowest possible cost of support from public funds. For this reason, many countries have decided to gradually move to the auction system, giving control over the costs, structure and capacity increase of new RES installations. The research problem is the evaluation of the effectiveness of the auction system against the background of the instruments used so far, both in terms of the increase in new generation capacities and the costs of achieving the intended objectives. These issues, due to the short period of functioning of the new system, have not been properly identified yet. The study uses data from the years 2010-2018. The spatial range was mainly in Poland, but examples from other countries around the world were also used. The research and analysis used a comparative method and a list of individual renewable energy production technologies according to the analyzed values. It has been hypothesized that an auction system based on competitive principles, more effectively and with lower support of public funds will allow for achieving goals related to the promotion of renewable energy sources. The aim of the article is to present the current and new RES support system, prices obtained in auctions and the first experience in its implementation. The research material were Eurostat and GUS statistical materials, documents from the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Office, reports on support systems from European countries and Poland. Research methods used in the work include analysis of documents, normative acts, subsequent amendments to the Act on renewable energy sources and regulations issued on their basis. The assessment and recognition of the level of support in the auction system in countries that have been using this instrument for many years was also made. These analyses allowed the assessment of the effects of the auctions carried out, their advantages and disadvantages, and helped formulate conclusions in the field of organizational changes ensuring efficient functioning of the auction system. |

Abstrakt | Thermal solar panel installation has been growing in Poland in response to the EU policies and available subsidies. This paper investigates the attitudes of residents of four counties in Mazowieckie Voividship in Poland about the origin of solar panels. Results show that rural residents did not attach importance to awarding preferences to domestic solar panel producers or to foreign producers in exchange of trade benefits. The recycling of used solar panels concerned a relatively small portion of respondents and seems to justify the passage of regulations obligating the solar panel industry to recycle the used panels. |

Słowa kluczowe | biomasa, biogospodarka, państwa Unii Europejskiej, zróżnicowanie przestrzenne |
Key words | biomass, bioeconomy, Eropean Union countries, spatial diversity |
W opracowaniu wykorzystano dane statystyczne pozyskane z EUROSTATU. Okres badawczy obejmował 2015 rok. Do interpretacji badań zastosowano statystykę opisową i parametryczną, wykorzystano wskaźniki struktury, gęstości i natężenia, a także wskaźnik korelacji Pearsona. W toku badań stwierdzono, że w 2015 roku 51,5% wytwarzanej w UE biomasy roślinnej w rolnictwie to produkty uboczne - pochodzące z resztek roślin uprawnych, z roślin pastewnych i biomasy wypasanej. Produkcja biomasy roślinnej cechowała się znacznym zróżnicowaniem przestrzennym zarówno w odniesieniu do biomasy pochodzącej z roślin uprawnych (liderami w tym zakresie były kraje: Francja, Niemcy, Hiszpania, Włochy i Polska), jak i do pozostałej biomasy (największy udział miały: Niemcy, Francja, Polska, Wielka Brytania i Włochy). W 2015 roku na terenie siedmiu krajów (tj. Niemiec, Francji, Polski, Wielkiej Brytanii, Hiszpanii, Włoch i Rumunii) wyprodukowano łącznie blisko ¾ roślinnej biomasy wytwarzanej w UE. |
Abstract | The aim of the article was to identify and assess the spatial diversity of agricultural biomass production of plant origin in EU countries as the basic raw material used to create bioproducts and bioenergy. The study uses statistical data obtained from EUROSTAT. The research period covered 2015. Descriptive and parametric statistics were used to interpret the study, and also the indicators of structure, density and intensity were used, as well as the Pearson correlation coefficient. The study found that in 2015 about 51,5% of plant biomass in agriculture produced in the EU were by-products - derived from crop residues, fodder crops and grazed biomass. The production of plant biomass was characterized by considerable spatial differentiation both in relation to biomass derived from arable crops (the leaders in this respect were: France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Poland) as well as to other biomass (Germany, France, Poland, Great Britain and Italy had the largest share). In 2015, nearly ¾ of the plant biomass produced in the EU was produced in seven countries (i.e. Germany, France, Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and Romania). The analysis also included the dependences among the size of biomass production, the population potential of the country (measured by the share in the EU population) and the production potential of agriculture (measured in the share of agricultural land in the EU). This allowed the designation of four groups of countries. |

Key words | oilseeds, vegetable oils, oilmeals, production, consumption, trade |
Abstrakt | W artykule przedstawiono zmiany jakie nastąpiły w światowej produkcji, zużyciu i handlu nasionami oleistymi i produktami ich przerobu w XXI wieku. |
Abstract | The article presents changes that have occurred in the global production, consumption and trade of oilseeds and their processing products in the 21st century. The analysis of changes was carried out for the six main regions of the world (Africa, Asia, North America, South America, Europe and Oceania) based on the data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (EUROSTAT), which were aggregated to the average from 2001-2004, 2005-2007, 2008-2010 and 2011-2013. In the 21st century, the global production and consumption of oilseeds, vegetable oils and oil pellets is growing dynamically in the wake of the growing global demand for food and renewable energy, while the regional growth rate is diversified. The international turnover of these products is also growing, but the geographical directions of trade do not change significantly due to the lack of significant changes in self-sufficiency in the field of oilseeds and their processing products in derivatives regions of the world. |

Key words | circular economy, bioenergy, waste |
Przedstawiono ogólną strukturę rynku energii, a następnie przeanalizowano znaczenie bioenergii, pozostałych OZE i energii pochodzącej z odpadów w systemie energetycznym UE. Badania wykazały, że dotychczasowa polityka UE przyniosła znaczący wzrost wykorzystania odnawialnych źródeł energii w strukturze produkcji i zużycia energii w UE. |

Abstrakt | W opracowaniu określono relacje między poziomem i zmianami struktury kosztów oraz efektywnością ekonomiczną przedsiębiorstwa na tle sektora produkcji artykułów spożywczych na podstawie studium przypadku Colian S.A. Wykorzystano zagregowane dane o poziomie cen i kosztów oraz wskaźniki rentowności operacyjnej aktywów (ROA), rentowności ekonomicznej sprzedaży (RES), rentowności netto i wartości dodanej wraz z danymi kosztów rodzajowych w układzie porównawczym. |
Abstract | The subject of the study undertaken was determination of relations between the level and structure of costs and the economic efficiency of the company of Polish food production sector, using the case study of Colian joint-stock company. The study adopted aggregated data of the prices and costs level, the profitability indicators of revenue of assets (ROA), the economic viability of sales (ROS), the net value added, and data from periodic reports on the structure of costs by comparative cost system. The level of costs in the sector and in the company increased, despite the decrease in the share of costs of materials and energy, wages and salaries, social security and other benefits, depreciation as well as taxes and fees in the cost structure. The rate of decline in the operating profitability of assets, the economic profitability of sales and the level of value added at enterprise was lower than the increase in the level of costs, which may result from non-operational activities. |

Title | The Global Market for Vegetable Oils |
Słowa kluczowe | oleje roślinne, produkcja, zużycie, handel, świat |
Key words | vegetable oils, production, consumption, trade, world |
Abstrakt | W artykule przedstawiono zmiany jakie nastąpiły w światowej produkcji, zużyciu i handlu olejami roślinnymi w XXI wieku. Analizę zmian przeprowadzono na podstawie danych USDA, które zagregowano do średnich pięcioletnich z sezonów 2001/02-2005/06, 2006/07-2010/11 i 2011/12-2015/16. W XXI wieku światowa produkcja olejów roślinnych dynamicznie wzrasta, w następstwie rosnącego w skali globalnej popytu na żywność i energię odnawialną. |
Abstract | The article presents the changes that have taken place in world production, consumption and trade in vegetable oils in the XXI century. The analysis of changes was based on USDA data, which were aggregated to the five-year average of the seasons 2001/02-2005 /06, 2006 /07-2010/11 and 2011 /12-2015 /16. In the twenty-first century, world production of vegetable oils is growing dynamically, following the growing global demand for food and renewable energy. Turnover of international trade vegetable oils is also increasing, but the geographical directions of trade in these products do not change significantly. Soybean oil has lost its leadership in the world production of vegetable oils. Currently, this production is dominated by palm oil, which has a very high degree of concentration of production. Thus, any changes in its few major producers and exporters (Malaysia and Indonesia) have a significant impact on the markets of other oils. Predictions indicate that the upward trend in world production, consumption and trade in vegetable oils will continue. |

Key words | common wheat, production profitability, EU, panel regression |
Abstract | The main aim of the article is to present multidimensional analysis of profitability of common wheat production in EU farms. The research focused on EU member states in years 2007-2013 and was based on statistical data published by the European Commission in EU Cereal Farms Reports. The profitability of common wheat production was analysed on the basis of income and expenditure accounts, which allowed to conduct multileveled evaluation of farms' ability to generate income from wheat production measured with gross and net margins. Furthermore, the panel regression model was used in order to identify strenght and direction of influence of chosen technical and economic price and cost characteristics on profitability of wheat production. In the light of panel model parameters, price and yield of wheat and both energy and fertilisation costs should be considered as most influential factors. |

Key words | biomass, straw, hay, perennial energy crops, energy potential |
Celem badań jest ocena potencjału energetycznego biomasy roślinnej z produkcji rolnej i wskazanie możliwości jej wykorzystania do produkcji energii elektrycznej i ciepła. Do badań wykorzystano dane z Powszechnego Spisu Rolnego 2010. |

Słowa kluczowe | emisje gazów cieplarnianych, rolnictwo, świat, Unia Europejska |
Key words | greenhouse gas emissions, agriculture, World, European Union, Poland |
W badaniach wykorzystano bazę danych Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych do Spraw Wyżywienia i Rolnictwa (FAOSTAT), Ramowej Konwencji Narodów Zjednoczonych w sprawie zmian klimatu (UNFCCC) oraz Światowego Instytutu Zasobów (CAIT). Jednakże UE należąca do grupy krajów rozwiniętych tj. Aneksu I obniżyła emisje ogółem i z rolnictwa odpowiednio o 24 i 23%. Redukcja emisji była efektem wdrażania pro środowiskowych regulacji prawnych. |
Abstract | Agriculture is the second, after energy sector, emitter of greenhouse gasses (GHG), of which increased concentrations in the atmosphere are caused by human activities. In order to reduce GHG, parties ratifying the Kioto protocol have committed to prepare annual emission reports and pledged to reduce emissions. The aim of the study was to analyse changes of agricultural emissions in the World, the European Union (EU) and Poland in 1990-2014. The research uses the United Nations Food and Agricultural database (FAOSTAT), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Chang (UNFCCC) and World Resources Institute (CAIT) databases. The analysis shows that in the World, in the examined period the total GHG emissions increased by 85%, whereas in agriculture by 15%. However, the EU as a member of Annex I parties had reduced total and agricultural emissions by 24% and 23%, respectively. The reduction of emissions was the result of the implementation of pro-environmental regulations. |
