| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | The paper presents the issues relating to the use of EU funds for cultural heritage projects in rural areas in Poland in the years 2007–2015. The study examines the structure of the funding of EU cultural heritage projects by the purpose of their implementation including revaluation of cultural heritage objects, creation and development of a new tourism product, renovation of sports and recreation infrastructure, promotion and other issues. The spatial analysis was carried out at the level of voivodships. The survey was conducted using the database of the National Information System of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development of the Republic of Poland (NIS SIMIK 07-13) as at 31 December 2015. In the years 2007–2015, in both rural areas and rural districts, in the case of those projects which were aimed at developing infrastructure and restoring cultural heritage assets, while projects thematically related to the creation of a new tourism product and promotion were of lesser importance. However, the highest grants from EU sources were provided for projects thematically related to the reconstruction of cultural heritage and creation of tourism products, which shows that the activities aimed at preservation of cultural heritage and support for local entrepreneurship are of particular significance to European entities. |

| Abstrakt | The purpose of this paper is to assess the use of agricultural services in European Union countries in the context of selected features of agriculture. The Ward’s Method was used to isolate six typological clusters of European Union countries. It may be noticed that clusters with a high levels of fixed capital consumption and total intermediate consumption are characterized by a higher use of services than other clusters. The absence of a noticeable relation between the share of crop output in the structure of agricultural output, or between the labour input and the use of agricultural services can be explained by differences in natural conditions, traditional farming models and preferences in choosing between developing the farm’s own machinery or using services. |

| Abstrakt | Agriculture is an important sector of the national economy. Modelling in agriculture is extensively used to evaluate and simulate the development of this industry. There are two main purposes for the development of agricultural models: to develop a scientific understanding of a particular system and obtain information in order to justify agricultural policy decisions and predict their implications. The purpose of this study is to analyse the models used in agriculture in the European Union (EU). To reach these purposes, the following research tasks were set: (1) to analyse the theoretical aspects of simulation modelling; (2) to explore the key agricultural simulation models employed in the EU. The research found that simulation modelling is often used in agriculture by policy makers. There are eight key models of different complexity which are being used to predict the development of the agricultural sector in the EU. |

| Abstrakt | The European authorities pay particular attention to agriculture and employees in this sector. Women represent more than 33% of this group in the European Union. A significant number of actions are targeted at women from rural areas, having regard to the mentioned issues and specific situation of women in the labour market. Therefore, it requires in-depth analyses. The main aim of the presented study is to assess the diversity of the situation of women working in agriculture across the EU. The quantitative analysis allows to indicate similarities and differences among EU states in the current structure of women’s employment in this sector. In the analysis, the k-mean method is applied with the Labour Force Survey data from the year 2016. The study refers to 28 EU states and a group of women aged 20–64. The obtained results indicated that we have a large proportion of self-employees in agriculture. However, we observe a larger percentage of those who create jobs for others states that are better economically developed. This analysis confirms the findings that the Polish structure of female employment is closer to those in the Mediterranean countries. Poland is assigned to one cluster with Greece. This group is distinguished by several factors. Firstly, it contains a high proportion of people employed in agriculture with a relatively small share of part-timers. Secondly, it is a very high rate of self-employed with a very low proportion of those who create jobs for others. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of the research was to determine the production costs in farms specializing in viticulture in the selected European Union countries in the period 2004–2015. It was found that there was a large variation in terms of the structure of production costs. In the analysed period, the majority of countries recorded an increase in total costs per 1 ha, which was mostly due to the year by year increase of the direct costs. In direct costs the plant protection had the largest share, followed by fertilization costs, while the lowest were the costs of pruning. The share of indirect costs in total costs was relatively high and on EU average reached 82%. |

| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | The article attempts to identify the dynamics and direction of the root plant market development in Poland in the period before and after accession to the European Union by defining resource-efficiency relations related to the cultivation of potatoes and sugar beet. The research was carried out in the years 1994–2016. Based on them, it turned out that despite the progressive process of concentration and specialization of production on the market of root crops in Poland, income efficiency (without subsidies), especially in the case of sugar beets, decreased significantly. In addition, the area of cultivation of both potatoes and sugar beet was systematically decreasing, which was partially compensated by the improvement in crops. As a result of these adjustments, sugar beet harvests were at a similar level throughout the entire period considered, while potato production decreased. |

| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | The main purpose of the study is the role and influence of social factors on macroeconomic stability. The research is based on the hypothesis that countries with greater macroeconomic stability achieve greater social progress. The integrated index of human capital is proposed as a target for the construction of an appropriate system for monitoring social progress, and in the future – identifying the impact on macroeconomic stability. The main stages of estimating the integral index of human capital are: identification of relevant indicators that will form each of the sub-indices; filtering the selected indicators in the previous stage based on the analysis of the correlation matrix of each of the subindices; normalization of indicators in each of the subindices, calculation of the integral index for each of the subindices, calculation of the final integral index of human capital. The calculations of the integrated capital human capital index for some of the EU countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, Romania) and Ukraine for the period 2000–2015 allowed us to conclude that Romania and Ukraine were on a marginal level of social progress, while Lithuania, Poland and Croatia in the range of moderate level. The use of the OLS (the least squares) method to determine the significance of changes in social progress to macroeconomic stability has revealed a positive and statistically significant impact of social progress on macroeconomic stability. |

| Słowa kluczowe | strategic management, transnational banks, international market, financial crisis, post-crisis development. |
| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | The article identifies post-crisis determinants of strategic management of transnational banks in the market of direct investments by means of the correlation analysis of the dependence of growth of external assets of transnational banks of European countries on the indicators of profitability and financial stability of banking systems of the countries of placement of subsidiary banks, the efficiency of the transmission mechanism of monetary policy in these countries, the structure of a complex financial crisis and the speed of post-crisis recovery of the country, ease of doing business. There is no obvious connection between the presence of foreign banks in the banking system and indicators of profitability, ease of doing business and financial stability of banking systems. This is confirmed by the correlation analysis of 45 indicators on the example of 26 European countries for 2009–2011 (the period immediately after the end of the global financial crisis of 2008–2009). It is proved that in the post-crisis period, for transnational banks, the decision of increasing/decreasing the volume of assets in the banking system of the host country is dominated by: 1) the structure of a complex financial crisis; 2) the speed of post-crisis recovery of economies and banking systems of these countries; 3) the effectiveness of the transmission mechanism of monetary policy in these countries |

| Słowa kluczowe | social capital, key competences, digital competences, digital exclusion, Łowicki county |
| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | Competitive advantage in the professional market is shaped by the competences possessed, i.e. skills, qualifications, and permissions. One of the eight types of key competences mentioned in the European Union documents is digital competence. It is a collection of knowledge, skills, and rudiments necessary for both, the purposeful point of view and active participation of a given person in social life. The low level of digital competences possessed is particularly visible among groups at risk of digital exclusion, in particular among people living in rural areas, the elderly and people with low education. The difference between people who have access to a computer and the Internet and people who do not have the possibility to use these devices is affected by the dynamic development of information and communication technologies. Digital exclusion is not only the lack of access to the appropriate infrastructure but also the lack of computer and Internet skills. In order to counteract the exclusion of these groups, activities aimed at developing social capital by strengthening digital competences play an important role. |

| Key words | labor productivity in agriculture, farms, farm structure |
W grupie 1. uwzględniono Austrię, Belgię, Danię, Holandię i Niemcy, natomiast w grupie 2. Czechy, Słowację, Litwę, Łotwę i Węgry. Stwierdzono w obydwu grupach krajów spadek liczby gospodarstw i zwiększenie produktywności pracy w rolnictwie ogółem i w badanych klasach gospodarstwach dużych. |
| Abstract | The study focuses on the analysis of labor productivity in Polish agriculture in 2005 and 2016 in comparison to selected EU-15 countries (group 1) and some countries that joined the EU after 2004. In group 1, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany are included, while in group 2 - the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary. The analysis particularly considers the role of large farms, the size of which was contractually agreed at 30 ha of UAA. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of large farms on the level of labor productivity in total farms and to determine the possibility of reducing the differences between labor productivity in Polish large farms in relation to analogous farms in EU-15 countries, and determining whether changes occurring in Poland differ from those occurring in large farms in other post-socialist countries. In both groups of countries there was a decrease in the number of farms and an increase in labor productivity in agriculture in general and in surveyed classes in large farms. In the countries of group 2. the rate of labor productivity growth was higher than in group 1. However, it slightly reduced the differences. Labor productivity in agriculture in the countries of Group 1 was significantly higher than in Group 2. The increase in the number and share of large farms in the structure of farms was positively correlated with labor productivity in agriculture. |

| Abstract | The article presents changes in honey production in the countries of EU in years 2001–2013. The method used in the article divided honey producers by size of the production: large, medium and small. Honey production in the group of small producers was the most dynamically growing, where the average annual growth rate was 2.93% in the considered period. Identified large volatility of honey production in the EU, which indicates the uncertainty and strong reactions of producers to the market situation. Therefore it is very important to support apiculture programs as contribution to the increasing of honey production and consumption in the respective countries. |

| Abstrakt | W artykule przyjęto dwa cele, a mianowicie: zaadoptowanie sposobu badawczego zaproponowanego przez Corbett i Jenkinson’a do wymogów Europejskiego Systemu Rachunków 2010; identyfikacja struktury finansowania inwestycji rzeczowych w niemieckim sektorze przedsiębiorstw. Identyfikując strukturę źródeł finansowania inwestycji rzeczowych zauważono, iż w niemieckim sektorze przedsiębiorstw dominują środki wewnętrzne i transfery kapitałowe. |
| Abstract | The article assumes two objectives, namely: to adjust the way of the research proposed by Corbett and Jenkinson to the requirements of the European System of Accounts 2010; identification of the financing structure of non-financial investments in the German corporate sector. The analysis used data from national reporting, and more specifically the two accounts included in the accumulation accounts, i.e.: the capital account and financial account. It was adopted the methodology of net financing, which uses a flow of funds, and not the stocks. It was noted that, in the German corporate sector internal sources and capital transfers are the basis of non-financial investments financing. |

| Title | GLOBAL CONVERGENCE OR GLOBAL DIVERGENCE OF AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT MECHANISMS? |
| Słowa kluczowe | konwergencja, dywergencja, wsparcie rolnictwa, wskaźnik PSE |
| Key words | convergence, divergence, support for agriculture, PSE indicator |
| Abstract | This paper presents the problems of changes in financial support for agriculture estimated through the PSE indicator and their possible convergence. The analysis was carried out using sigma and beta convergence absolute between 1986 and 2015. Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Turkey, the USA and the European Union included the regions analyzed. The aim of the article was to confirm or deny the existence of convergence of support for agriculture on a global scale. The study did not confirm the hypothesis of the convergence of agricultural support. These conclusions coincide with previous investigations for OECD countries |

| Title | THE ATTEMPT OF EVALUATION OF ABSORPTION OF THE EUROPEAN FUNDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN LUBELSKIE PROVINCE |
| Słowa kluczowe | odnawialne źródła energii (OZE), programy wsparcia, Regionalny Program Operacyjny, Program Rozwoju Obszarów Wiejskich, województwo lubelskie |
| Key words | renewable energy, support programs, Regional Operational Programme, Rural Development Programme, Lubelskie Voivodship |
W ramach RPO WL i PROW (3.2.1) w woj. lubelskim zamontowano ponad 34 tys. instalacji o mocy 189,2 MWt i 4,1 MWe, przeważnie kolektorów słonecznych (95,8%), kotłów na biomasę (2,3%) i paneli fotowoltaicznych (1,9%). |
| Abstract | The paper presents results of study aimed at assessing an absorption of European Union funds intended for investments in renewable energy in the Lubelskie province. Source of the data was the Department of Regional Operational Programme in the Marshal’s Office for Lubelskie province in Lublin and the Department of European Funds in Ministry of Energy. With the funds from the Regional Operational Programme of the Lubelskie province and the Rural Development Programme (3.2.1) over 34 thousand renewable energy installations with capacity of 189,2 MWt and 4,1 MWe, were build. Most of them were solar collectors (95.8%), biomass boilers (2.3%) and photovoltaic panels (1.9%). Such significant share of solar energy projects proves the hypothesis of the Renewable Energy Development Program for the Lubelskie province that it is possible for the Lubelskie region to become a national leader in the use of solar energy for the production of heat and electricity. As a result of implemented projects the consumption of conventional fuels in rural areas dropped by around 4% per year, what is equal to the energy value of 19 thousand tons of bituminous coal. Furthermore, actions taken with the help of above mentioned programs resulted in a reduction of CO2 emissions by around 1,7 thousand tons of primary greenhouse gas, dust and other pollutants. |
