Abstrakt	Artykuł jest pracą przeglądową, prezentującą syntezę spojrzeń przedstawicieli różnych dziedzin naukowych na zmiany dokonujące się na obszarach wiejskich Polski głównie w ciągu ostatniego dziesięciolecia, a więc w czasie przynależności kraju do Unii Europejskiej. W pracy najpierw przedstawiono w świetle polskiej i zagranicznej literatury kwestię niejednoznacznego definiowania obszaru wiejskiego oraz wynikające z tego mocno zróżnicowane dystynktywne jego cechy. Następnie przeanalizowano zmiany społeczno-gospodarcze zachodzą- ce na obszarach wiejskich Polski, ujęte w czterech wielkich procesach, takich jak: deruralizacja, dezagraryzacja, dualizacja rolnictwa i restratyfikacja wsi. Prześledzono czynniki różnicujące funkcje turystyczne obszarów wiejskich w skali kraju i regionów. Podkreślono, że waga i oddziaływanie tych czynników jest różne, a w wielu przypadkach związane nie tylko z przynależnością do Unii Europejskiej, ale także z globalizacją, które razem przyczyniają się do upowszechniania pragnień mieszkańców wsi i ujednolicania preferencji wypoczynkowych turystów.
Abstract	The article is a presentation of different approaches taken by representatives of various sciences to the changes in the rural areas of Poland, which have mostly taken place over the last decade, i.e. the time of Poland’s membership in the European Union. First, in the light of Polish and foreign literature, the author presents inconclusive definitions of the rural area and the resulting discrepancies among its distinctive features. Next, she analyses the socio-economic changes taking place in the rural areas of Poland, part of four powerful processes: deruralization, deagrarization, dualization of agriculture and the restratification of the countryside. Further on, factors diversifying the national and regional scale tourist functions of rural areas are analysed. It has been pointed out that the importance and influence of these factors vary, and are often connected not only with membership in the European Union, but also with globalization, which jointly popularize the country inhabitants’ dreams and standardize tourists’ recreation preferences.

Abstrakt	Po przystąpieniu Polski do Unii Europejskiej organizacje branżowe, które były reprezentatywne dla danej branży rolnej, mogły ubiegać się o współfinansowanie kampanii promocyjno-informacyjnych w ramach unijnego mechanizmu „Wsparcie działań promocyjnych i informacyjnych na rynkach wybranych produktów rolnych”. Celem dofinansowania było m.in. zwiększenie popytu na określone wspólnotowe artykuły żywnościowe i uświadomienie konsumentom, że produkty te gwarantują wysoką jakość. Promocja produktów rolnych możliwa była zarówno na wewnętrznym rynku unijnym, jak i na rynkach poza UE. W artykule przybliżono kampanie realizowane na rynku mięsa. Komisja Europejska do końca 2014 roku przyznała organizacjom branżowym w Polsce, realizującym kampanie na rynku mięsa, 33,6 mln euro. Działania w ramach kampanii obejmowały m.in.: public relations, udział w targach, a także produkcję i emisję reklam telewizyjnych.
Abstract	After Poland’s accession to the European Union, branch organizations representative for the agricultural branch could apply for co-financing promotion and information campaigns within the EU scheme “Support for promotion and information activities of selected agricultural products”. Aim of the co-financing was inter alias to increase demand for certain Community food products and to make the consumers aware that those products guarantee high quality. Promotion of agricultural products was possible on the internal union market as well as on the markets beyond the EU. The article presents the campaigns carried out in the meat market. The European Commission granted branch organization implementing campaigns on the meat market EUR 33.6 million. In framework of the campaign public relations activities, participation in fairs as well as production and TV advertisements were carried out.

Abstract	The article describes barriers faced by Mayor’s Offices and beneficiaries of EU funds during promoting them and communicate in the regions. The text indicates what factors contribute to brand building of the province. It also goes deeper to cause of promotion and communication areas, because promotion is not a goal but a means to increase the economic potential of regions – the development of infrastructure and social development.

Abstrakt	Even in the knowledge-based economy era tangible assets still matters. It is because the value of intangible assets steams from the combined bundle of both tangible and intangible resources. Therefore it is important issue to assess how investments in fixed assets are connected with business performance. This problem seems to be particularly interesting in the case of Polish dairy industry. It is important part of European and Polish agribusiness system. During transition in Poland a lot of investments in dairy industry were already done. There is substantial overcapacity noticed in this sector. However empirical evidence done on 18 Polish dairy cooperatives shows the positive correlation between modernity of fixed assets and intensity of developing them and economic performance of dairies.

Abstrakt	This article touches upon the problem of identification and evaluation of the productive significance of urban agriculture, with the emphasis on both the analysis of its state and the changes in agrarian structure. The temporal scope covers the years 2002–2010, while the spatial scope covers only the provincial cities in Poland. Results of the conducted analyses show that very dynamic agrarian changes have taken place in provincial cities; these changes have been particularly visible in big cities. A 25% decrease in the number of farms with the areas up to 1 ha of agricultural land and almost a threefold increase in the number of individual farms with the areas above 20 ha of agricultural land has been noted down in all the provincial cities. As a result, the average surface of individual farms above 1 ha of agricultural land in cities has increased five times quicker than it is visible in Poland.

Abstrakt	In the following paper the authors provide an analysis of the possibility of implementing by the State Forests National Forest Holding (PGL LP) a multifunctional, sustainable forest management based on the principles of environmental protection, co-financed from EU funds and national programs in the 2007–2013 funding perspective. The following national programs were taken into account: Regional Operational Programmes, Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme, Rural Development Programme, European Territorial Cooperation Programme. The programmes were analysed to the extent where the State Forests units (Forest Districts, Regional Directorates of National Forest, State Forests of National Forest) were beneficiaries of financial funds. The analysis of the use of funds by the State Forests units, accompanied by a general statement and selected projects was performed. The issues related to direct payments in the study were not taken into account.

Abstrakt	This study elaborates on the problem of gender-based inequality in European countries. The first part discusses main trends in defining inequalities and discrimination. The second part includes an analysis of inequality based on the wage gap index and the Global Gender Index. Obtained results confirmed the existence of social inequality based on gender in European countries. Due to differences in its levels among different European countries in 2012–2013 it was possible to isolate two groups of countries. The first group includes Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden, that have been able to eliminate most of gender-based inequalities in various spheres of life. The second group consists of countries that need to reduce the disparities between positions of women and men – these include Albania, Hungary and Malta.

The analysis was carried out under a research project (grant agreement No 3745/B/H03/2011/40), which was funded by National Science Centre. The analysis involved comparative as well as descriptive methods.

Abstrakt	The paper presents income situation of Polish rural households in 2005 –2012. The research material came from unpublished empirical studies of Central Statistical Office . Changes of income level and structure of main income sources of the livelihoods were presented. Growing importance of wage from off-farm jobs and a decline of the share of income from agriculture was observed. The author indicated differences in the economic situation of the population living in rural areas and of individual incomes of the families, which suggests the need of checking the activities of the regional policy in relation to rural areas. Conclusions from the analysis are confirmed by the answers of the respondents. According to them, “very good” and “good” levels of income in rural families (over 18% in 2012) came from all sources, including social benefits. Declining share of expenditures reflects positive trends in Polish rural areas after EU accession as well as possibilities of further structural and social changes in rural areas.
