Abstract	In 2005, expenditure on social protection accounted for 27.2% of GDP in the EU-27. However, the percentage share in one country can be more than double that in another. Expenditure was highest in Sweden (32.0%) and lowest in Latvia (12.4%). Expenditure on old-age and survivors benefits accounts for a large proportion of social benefits in most countries. Sickness/health care expenditure increased steadily over the period 2000–2005 in the EU-25 (by 3.4% per annum on average)

Abstract	The aim of the paper is to analyse the employment changes in Poland and the European Union in the 2000–2007 period. The main source of performed research was the Eurostat database. In examined time the employment rate increased in the whole European Union. Also the employment rate in Poland raised up (to 57% level) at the end of the year 2007, however it was lower by about 8,4 percentage points than employment average for the European Union. The employment rate of woman in Poland increased from 48,9% to 50,6% between of 2000 and 2007. Furthermore, the employment rate for older people in 55–64 age amounted to 28,4% in 2000, but in 2007 also rose to 29,7% level. Besides improving the situation on labour market, Poland will have serious difficulties in achievement the Lisbon and Stockholm Strategy target

Abstract	Warsaw Stock Exchange in the years 2007 was characterized by the highest capitalization among stock exchanges of new member countries of the European Union and it is the middle size stock exchange in Europe. At the end of the year 2007 the index of capitalization of domestic companies to gross domestic product of Poland amounted to 47.3%, what shows at quantitative and qualitative development of Warsaw Stock Exchange and well realized strategy. WSE is characterized by low liquidity ratio in comparison with exchanges of Central and Eastern Europe. At the end of 2007 liquidity ratio of WSE amounted to 44.3%, when in Hungary amounted to 109,8% and in Czech Republic to 76,2%.

Abstrakt	Wsparcie finansowe rozwoju rolnictwa i obszarów wiejskich w ramach programów pomocowych Unii Europejskiej ma ogromne znaczenie ze względu na potrzeby inwestycyjne w tym sektorze. Analiza zgromadzonego materiału badawczego wykazała, że do najważniejszych korzyści dla sektora rolno-żywnościowego z racji akcesji Polski do Unii Europejskiej należy zaliczył wejście do grupy państw o najwyższym na świecie poziomie wsparcia rolnictwa, objęcie systemem dopłat bezpośrednich oraz wsparcie procesu przekształceń gospodarstw rolnych. Szczególnie cenna okazała się pomoc finansowa w realizacji inwestycji w gospodarstwach rolnych, przyczyniając się do poprawy dochodu rolniczego, warunków produkcji, poprawy jakości produkcji, ochrony środowiska naturalnego oraz stworzenia właściwych warunków utrzymania zwierząt. Począwszy od 2004 roku polscy rolnicy mieli możliwość skorzystania z unijnej pomocy finansowej w ramach trzech form wsparcia. Były to płatności bezpośrednie w ramach Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej, środki finansowe w ramach Planu Rozwoju Obszarów Wiejskich, absorpcja środków SPO „Restrukturyzacja i modernizacja sektora żywnościowego i rozwój obszarów wiejskich”.
Abstract	Financial support of development of agriculture and rural areas within the framework of aid instruments of the European Union has enormous importance because of needs for investments in this sector. To the most important benefits of agricultural-food sector from the Polish accession to the European Union the following can be counted: entering into the group of states with the highest in the world level of support for agriculture, entering a system of direct payments and a system of support for the process of transformation of agricultural holdings. Particularly valuable has turned out the financial support for the investments in agricultural holdings contributing to improvements in agricultural income, conditions of production, quality of production, environmental protection and to creation of proper conditions of maintenance of animals. Beginning from 2004 Polish farmers had a chance to use the European Union financial support within the framework of three forms of support: direct payments within the common agricultural policy, financial support within the plan of development of rural areas, absorption of means from SPO Restructuring and modernization of the food sector and development of rural areas.

Abstrakt	Artykuł poświęcony jest prezentacji stanu rolnictwa ekologicznego w rozszerzonej Uni Europejskiej (UE), co ma na celu podkreślenie rosnącego znaczenia tego sposobu gospodarowania. W latach 1985-2006 liczba gospodarstw ekologicznych w 27 państwach członkowskich UE zwiększyła się ponad 34-krotnie, zaś ich powierzchnia prawie 70-krotnie. Zwrócono jednocześnie uwagę na duże zróżnicowanie wielkości powierzchni ekologicznych użytków rolnych oraz liczby gospodarstw ekologicznych w poszczególnych państwach członkowskich UE. W latach 2003-2006 największy areał upraw ekologicznych wśród krajów członkowskich UE odnotowano we Włoszech, Niemczech, Hiszpanii, Wielkiej Brytanii oraz Francji. W artykule wskazano także na dynamiczny rozwój tego sposobu gospodarowania w krajach Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Uwydatniono przy tym kierunki zmian w polskim rolnictwie ekologicznym, dla którego istotnym impulsem były korzyści wynikające z członkostwa w UE. O skali rozwoju tego sposobu gospodarowania w krajach UE-12 świadczy fakt, iż w latach 2003-2006 powierzchnia gospodarstw ekologicznych zwiększyła się prawie 2-krotnie, obejmując w 2006 roku ponad 17% areału ekologicznych użytków rolnych UE. Natomiast w Polsce areał upraw ekologicznych w 2006 roku był ponad 4-krotnie większy w stosunku do 2003 roku.
Abstract	The article presents the state of organic farming in the enlarged European Union (EU). It is important to emphasise the growing role of this kind of farming. In the period of years 1985-2006 the number of organic farms in the EU-27 member states has grown over 34 times and their area nearly 70 times. An attention has been paid to the great differentiation in the organic farming area and the number of organic farms in individual EU countries. The greatest organic farming areas in years 2003- 2006 were found in Italy, Germany, Spain, Great Britain and France. In the article the dynamic growth of organic farming in the countries of Middle-East Europe has been shown. At the same time the directions of changes in the Polish organic farming have been identified, which had been caused by advantages resulting from the EU membership. The evidence for the big scale of the development of this sort of farming is that the organic farming area in the EU-12 countries in years 2003-2006 has become 2 times greater and covered over 17 percent of the total EU organic farming area. However in Poland the organic farming area in 2006 was over 4-times greater than in 2003.

Abstrakt	Celem niniejszego opracowania było przedstawienie zmian bezrobocia wiejskiego po integracji Polski z Unią Europejską. Analizę przeprowadzono w oparciu o dane pochodzące z Badań Aktywności Ekonomicznej Ludności Polski realizowanych przez GUS w II kwartale 2004 i IV kwartale 2007 roku. Przedstawione wyniki badań wskazują na korzystne zmiany zachodzące w obszarze bezrobocia wiejskiego wynikające z dostępu Polski do funduszy unijnych, a także z otwarcia rynków pracy przez niektóre kraje dawnej „piętnastki”. Zmiany te dotyczą między innymi obniżenia wskaźników charakteryzujących bezrobocie oraz ograniczenia skali bezrobocia długookresowego. Nadal jednak poważnym problemem pozostaje bezrobocie dotyczące bezrolnych mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich
Abstract	The purpose of the present study was to show the changes of rural unemployment after the integration of Poland with the European Union. The analysis was carried out on data coming from the Research of Economic Activity of Polish Residents made by GUS in the second quarter of 2004 and in the fourth quarter of 2007. The results of the investigations indicate advantageous changes occurring in the field of rural unemployment, resulting from the availability of the EU funds and also from opening labour markets by some countries of the former EU-15. The changes include inter alia a reduction of the rate of unemployment and a decrease in the scale of long-term unemployment. Still, the unemployment of landless dwellers of rural areas remains a serious problem.

W analizie opartej na danych statystycznych GUS, uwzględniono zmiany w produkcji roślinnej i zwierzęcej oraz w intensywno .ci i strukturze produkcji towarowej polskiego rolnictwa, w latach 2000-2007.
Abstract	The paper deals with the regional differentiation of changes of some indicators characteristic for Polish agriculture. Based on statistical data from the years 2000 and 2007, it was found that the trends and dynamics of the changes considerably vary between the provinces. Such a situation is caused not only by the general macroeconomic conditions, but also by the unique character of agriculture in particular provinces. This is the agrarian structure that greatly affects the dynamics of indicator changes. The analysis proved that the regional agricultural differentiation has strengthened over the last years. While in western and northern Poland commercial farms become more and more important, a large number of small farms in south-eastern part of the country lose the commercial character and transform into self sufficient, social farms. The regional differentiation of changes in Polish agriculture should be analyzed regularly as some phenomena and trends seem evident after longer periods of time.

Abstrakt	W artykule określono znaczenie gospodarstw wielkotowarowych w rolnictwie krajów UE na podstawie danych FADN. Analizie poddano udział zasobów czynników produkcji gospodarstw powyżej 100 ESU w zasobach wszystkich towarowych gospodarstw UE. Na tej podstawie dokonano typologii krajów UE. W wyniku przeprowadzonego grupowania uzyskano cztery jednorodne skupienia państw UE różniące się znaczeniem gospodarstw wielkotowarowych, odzwierciedlonym udziałem czynnik ów produkcji będących w ich posiadaniu.
Abstract	The multi-dimensional statistical analysis of the share of the large-scale production farms in the agriculture of the EU countries in 2005 was conducted in the paper. Cluster analysis was used. As a result of grouping four homogeneous clusters of the EU countries were received. For these typological groups of countries resources of production factors as well as production and economic results were analysed. A significant diversification of the role of large-scale production farms in the agriculture of the EU countries was affirmed. Characteristic for the countries where the position of the farms over 100 ESU is especially crucial is that whole agriculture is strong and differences between the lage-scale production farms and all farms are relatively small.

Abstrakt	W pracy wykorzystano informacje gromadzone w ramach europejskiego systemu rachunkowości rolnej FADN. Porównano zmiany poziomu zrównoważenia produkcji w latach 1989-2004. Badano gospodarstwa mleczne w krajach UE. W analizowanym okresie prawie dwukrotnie wzrosła .średnia wielkość ekonomiczna gospodarstw i produkcja mleka z gospodarstwa. Towarzyszył temu wzrostu przeciętnej wielkości stada krów o około 50% i wydajności mlecznej o 27%. Przy niewielkim przyroście nakładów pracy nastąpił wzrost produkcyjności pracy mierzonej produkcją mleka na jednostkę pracy o ponad 80%. Przedstawione zmiany dokonały się przy jednoczesnym zmniejszeniu obsady zwierząt o około 9% oraz kosztów nawożenia na ha użytków rolnych o 30%. Koszty ochrony roślin utrzymywały się na niskim poziomie i w badanym okresie wzrosły z 23 do 25 EUR na ha użytków rolnych.
Abstract	In the paper the level of sustainability of production measured with livestock density in livestock units (LU) and cost of fertilization and pesticides per hectare of utilized agricultural area (UAA) was analyzed. The analysis were conducted based on FADN data. Diary farms (TF41) from courtiers of the so called .old. European Union (EU-15) were analyzed. During last 15 years the average size of diary farm and milk production per farm has doubled. The average herd size increased by 50% while the growth of milk output was c.a. 27%. This was accompanied by an increase of work productivity measured by milk output per annual work unit by 80%. The above described changes were made with simultaneous decrease of livestock density by c.a. 9% and fertilization per hectare of UAA by 30%. The cost of pesticides during 1998-2003 changed from 23 to 25 EUR per ha hectare of UAA. In all of EU12 countries the average cattle herd size increased. This proves the strong impact of industrial farming mechanisms. In the same time the symptoms of sustainability of agricultural production were observed. In nine of EU12 countries livestock density decreased accordingly it has increased only in three countries . Portugal, Italy, Ireland.

Abstrakt	W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w gospodarstwach z bazy FADN w roku 2005 w podziale na wydzielone grupy obszarów o niekorzystnych warunkach gospodarowania (ONW). Uwzględniono potencjał ekonomiczny gospodarstw oraz ich organizację i wyniki produkcyjne. W badaniach między innymi wykazano, iż udział dopłat do ONW w dochodach gospodarstw najmniejszych w najsłabszych regionach jest najniższy.
Abstract	The paper presents results of research on farms operating at less favoured areas. The analysis were conducted based on FADN data from 2005. The following attributes were taken into consideration: farm economic potential, organisation and production results. The research revealed that the share of the compensatory allowances for LFA in income of the smallest, mountain farms was the lowest. Moreover, farms in Małopolska and Pogórze regions (mountain areas) have substantially worse indicators than other regions what is good implication for strengthening regional support for them. The results showed that there is inconsiderable difference between resources and economic situation of non LFA and so called .other LFA., what impeach the propriety of the LFA delimitation system in Poland.
