Jak każda działalność musi się modernizować aby sprostać wymaganiom konsumentów i wygrywać na konkurencyjnym rynku. Ponieważ jest to działalność nie związana bezpośrednio z ziemią, powinna być czynnikiem aktywizującym i wiążącym zasoby pracy na obszarach dużych nadwyżek pracy w rolnictwie.
Abstract	Egg production segment is an important component of poultry and Polish food economy. It develops systematically and modernizes. The result is a systematic increase of egg production and consumption, growth in exports of eggs and their products and improvement of the technical and economic self-sufficiency in the field of Polish farming. Like every business needs to modernize to meet the demands of consumers and win in a competitive market. Since the activity is not directly linked to the soil, should be a factor in activating and binding labor resources in the areas of large surplus labor in agriculture.

Abstrakt	Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wyników negocjacji w zakresie budżetu UE na lata 2014-2020. Wskazane zostaną ostateczne ustalenia co do obecnej perspektywy finansowej na tle projektu Komisji Europejskiej z 2011 roku, a także w odniesieniu do poprzedniego okresu 2007- 2013. Takie podejście pozwoli ocenić zakres zmian w wydatkach Unii Europejskiej. Szczególna uwaga zostanie zwrócona na finansowanie zadań w ramach wspólnej polityki rolnej, jako jednej z kluczowych polityk wspólnotowych oraz kwestię redystrybucji środków WPR na I filar (płatności obszarowe) i II filar (rozwój obszarów wiejskich). Ocena dotyczyć będzie przede wszystkim funduszy przeznaczonych dla Polski i polskiego sektora rolnego.
Abstract	The purpose of this article is to present the results of the negotiations on the EU budget for 2014-2020. The final decisions related to the present financial perspective will be indicated on the background of the European Commission project from 2011, and also in relation to the previous period 2007-2013. Such an approach helps to assess the extent of the changes in the expenditure of the European Union. Particular attention will be paid to the financing of the tasks within the framework of the common agricultural policy as one of the key Community policies, as well as the issue of redistribution of money between the first pillar of the CAP (area payment) and the second pillar (rural development). The evaluation will primarily concern the funds for Poland and Polish agricultural sector.

Abstrakt	Celem artykułu jest wskazanie, czy w miastach na prawach powiatu realizowana jest zasada racjonalnego gospodarowania oraz czy występuje zjawisko ekonomii skali w zakresie utrzymania szkół podstawowych oraz gimnazjów. W pierwszej części artykułu dokonano przeglądu literatury. Następnie przedstawiono metodologię oraz wyniki badania. Artykuł zakończono wnioskami. Ekonomika skali w przypadku placówek oświatowych jest uzasadnieniem konsolidacji tych podmiotów ze względów finansowych. Biorąc pod uwagę zmniejszającą się liczbę uczniów w szkołach podstawowych i gimnazjach konsolidacja tych jednostek jest uzasadniona w przypadku miasta na prawach powiatu, ze względu na zwykle dużą liczbę jednostek realizujących zadania oświatowe. W artykule wykazano, że w badaniach ekonomia skali w jednostkach oświatowych znajduje uzasadnienie. W niektórych przypadkach pozwala nawet na określenie optymalnej z punktu widzenia finansowego liczby uczniów. W literaturze przedmiotu właśnie ucznia (studenta) przyjmuje się za podstawowy nośnik kosztów. Przeprowadzone badania na większości miasta na prawach powiatu w Polsce w okresie 2003- 2010, gdy następowała konsolidacja, wskazują, że występuje dysekonomia skali. Zarówno w przypadku wydatków na utrzymanie szkół podstawowych i gimnazjów, jak i oddziałów, widoczne jest zjawisko wzrostu przeciętnych wydatków, pomimo zmniejszającej się liczby placówek oświatowych i oddziałów szkolnych. Konsolidacja nie powodowała zatem pożądanych zmian w finansowaniu placówek oświatowych.
Abstract	The aim of article is to indicate whether the cities implemented the principle of economic rationality and are there economies of scale in the maintenance of primary and secondary schools. In the first part of the article review the literature has been done. It then provides the methodology and the results of the test. Article is finalized proposals. The economics of scale for educational institutions justifies the consolidation of these entities for financial reasons. Given the decreasing number of students in primary and secondary schools to consolidation of these entities is justified, due to the usually large number of units carrying out educational tasks. The article shows that economies of scale in educational units is justified. In some cases, even allows you to determine the optimal number of students. In the literature a student is considered the primary carrier of costs. The research done in cities in Poland in the period 2003-2010, when the consolidation took place, indicates that there is diseconomy of scale. Both in the case of expenditure on the maintenance of primary and secondary schools, as well as the branches, it is apparent phenomenon of growth in average spending, despite the declining number of educational and school departments. Consolidation does not cause therefore the desired changes in the financing of educational institutions.

Abstrakt	In the period of transformation in Poland after 1989 the possibilities to develop individual economic activity, including family business, grew. Presently, family businesses are the basis of world economy. One of the forms of family business are agricultural family farms, managed by an individual farmer and his family. A specific type of the enterprise characterizes agritourist farms. These enterprises continue their activity, in spite of changing economic situation and world crisis, playing an important economic and social role. With regard to the meaning of this form of tourism for sustainable development of the rural areas, the aim of this paper is the analysis of functioning of family agritourist farms in Zachodniopomorskie region.

Abstrakt	The study assesses the level of selected factors and their impact on the productivity of the food industry against the background of manufacturing in the years 1995–2011. The influence of wages, investment, innovation and technical infrastructure on labor productivity in manufacturing and food industries was observed. The impact of investment and innovation on total productivity, as well as investment in capital productivity and innovation on labor productivity in manufacturing was revealed (correlation coefficients were high and statistically significant). The coefficients of determination in most of these cases showed a good fit of regression models to empirical data. The level of productivity factors was generally lower in the food industry than in manufacturing. However, there was an increase in investment activity and innovation and technical equipment working in the food industry during the Polish accession to the EU. However, to continue productivity growth of the food industry in the long term, it will be necessary to make non-technological innovation.

Abstrakt	This paper identifies and examines the regional strategic groups for food industry basing upon McKinsey’s modified matrix. An analysis of regional strategic groups being understood as concentration of similar regions regarding sector attractiveness as well as position and competitive potential what allows proposing acceptable strategic activities both for regions and enterprises localized on their area. The survey shows that in Poland only Masovian region is predestinated to realize development strategies in food industry. Great Poland region (Wielkopolska) is recommended to use selective options analysis as well as for enterprises operating on that market. In considering the supporting strategies basing upon selective growth, it is the most advantageous for Silesia region, South Silesia region and Minor Poland (Małopolska), Pomorze region. The strategy of profit maximizing and withdrawal strategy can be used in the following regions; Łódź region, Opole region, Lubuskie region, Podkarpacie region, Lublin region, Podlasie region, Świętokrzyski region, Warmia-Mazury region, Kujawsko- Pomorskie region.

Abstrakt	Even in the knowledge-based economy era tangible assets still matters. It is because the value of intangible assets steams from the combined bundle of both tangible and intangible resources. Therefore it is important issue to assess how investments in fixed assets are connected with business performance. This problem seems to be particularly interesting in the case of Polish dairy industry. It is important part of European and Polish agribusiness system. During transition in Poland a lot of investments in dairy industry were already done. There is substantial overcapacity noticed in this sector. However empirical evidence done on 18 Polish dairy cooperatives shows the positive correlation between modernity of fixed assets and intensity of developing them and economic performance of dairies.

Abstrakt	Skillful creation of a region’s positive image as a non-material resource may contribute to the region development in long perspective. During this process it is very important to show the attributes of region identity. The author made an attempt to demonstrate the possibilities for the use of food market attributes in creation of region’s image. A survey was carried out in six typical regions (NUTS 2) in Poland and the results are presented in the paper. The main important food market attributes are: regional culinary heritage, regional products, prevalent production in region and regional diversity of food consumers behaviour.

Abstrakt	With the entry into the European Union in 2004, Poland is obliged to observe the rules of the Common Agricultural Policy. One of the important areas of this policy is to preserve natural values of the countryside by supporting sustainable agriculture. Thanks to the financial support under the Rural Development Plan (2004–2007) and the Rural Development Programme (2007–2013), Polish farmers received the opportunity to use pro-environmental management methods. This study is devoted to characterizing the main tool to support environmental protection in rural areas of the RDP (2007–2013), namely agri-environmental program. Based on the survey, it was revealed that Poland was one of the countries that received the largest amount of funds for agri-environmental measures. It was also found out that the compensation due to changes in the intensity of production were the main impetus for pro-environmental action.

Abstrakt	In the period 1990–2013 sugar industry in Poland faced numerous legal transformations, shifting from nearly free-market conditions into a strongly regulated sector. Changes of the sugar industry regulations had a significant impact on the structure of the sugar market, companies’ actions and, as a result, on their performance. Accession to the European Union and the reform of the sugar regime conducted from 2006 to 2010 on the initiative of the European Commission involved deep restructuring and modernization of the factories, which caused growth of their productivity. However, prices of sugar in the EU and in Poland are much higher than prices on the world market.

Abstrakt
Abstract	Poland is one of the largest global producers and particularly exporters of apples. The export is of great importance to domestic producers of these fruits. The objective of the article was to assess Poland’s competitiveness in world trade in apples in the years 2003–2013. In connection with that, in an innovative way ten mutually complementary indices of ex-post competitiveness have been calculated for Poland and analysed. The study presents ranges in which the values of particular indices of competitiveness may be comprised. It also explains the impact which re-export may have on the levels of some of these indices, making it difficult for their correct interpretation. The studies have demonstrated that in the analysed period, Poland was characterised by high and growing competitiveness in foreign trade in apples, particularly in the years 2012–2013.
