Abstract	The article presents problems concerning tests for impairment and impairment losses based on Polish accounting law. Impairment losses are caused by risks that the company will not obtain economic benefits from controlled assets. External and internal indications of impairment as well as the procedure of tests for impairment were described here. The values of assets which must be determined to answer the question if assets are impaired or not were depictured. Problems of differed tax assets connected with impairment losses were mentioned. Treatment and allocation of impairment losses were presented. The rules of their presentation in an income statement in a statement of changes in equity and in notes were shown.

Abstract	The expression development for free cash flows to firm taking into account the flat-rate tax on special branches of agricultural production was necessary to use the target costing for the analysis of agricultural investment project. It made possible to present essential for this costing the appropriately changed formula for target minimum rate of return on sales therefore. The modified current unit cost for investment project was lower than the allowable cost. Discount criteria for acceptance of this project were fulfilled. The size of the safety margin and safety margin rate for current costs reached a level indicating a low risk of failure of the project.

Abstract	In the years 2000–2010 Polish cooperative banking sector was characterized by a strong and stable economic situation. In particular, the period 2000–2006 indicated a huge potential for cooperative banks, which allowed them to systematically increase the market share. Fundamental changes in the cooperative arrangements aimed at Western Europe – the merger of two banks associations and the ability to issue bonds by the cooperative banks, while viability of the sector and its high potential point to the significant development opportunities, further strengthening the capital and the ability to make better use of economies of scale, allowing both reduce operating costs, as well as improve the effectiveness of cooperative banks and allow the dynamic development of new technologies.

Abstract	The aim of this paper was to determine the situation of the EU farms in 2009 according to their production potential and to identify changes of the situation compared to 2004. FADN data was used in the paper. Then, grouping farms was conducted by means of cluster analysis. For clusters separated on farm’s equipment with production factors the financial indicators and income per farm and per employee were calculated. A more favourable income situation occurs in farms with a more correct relations between the resources of capital and other production factors, although the financial situation of those entities assessed on the basis of financial indicators is not always clearly favourable.

Abstract	The paper presents an analysis of the process of shaping European Union legislation on GMO’s. Describes impact on the legislative process by the most important of the EU institutions: the Commission, the Council and the European Parliament as well as by various lobbing groups. The complexity and partial openness of the Union’s legislative process introduced in Lisbon Treaty was seen as an opportunity for consulting various Union’s social groups. As demonstrated in the work, existing system allows organized groups to delay substantially or even reject proposed changes in the EU legislation, important from the point of maintaining the global competitiveness of the European Union.

Abstract	Structural changes in agriculture concern both production sphere as well as economic and social ones. Transformation in Polish agriculture has been performing for many years, first under influence of system transformation, next as the result of integration and globalization processes. These changes are similar to the changes in “old 15” countries of EU. Above mentioned changes regard employment reduction in agriculture, increase of production factors productivity, as well as improvement of rural farms area structure. The dynamics of transformation is greater than in “old EU – 15” countries. But productivity of production factors, especially labor productivity is far more lower than in high developed countries. The instruments of Common Agriculture Policy as well as coherence policy and structural policy are the chance for accelerating of transformation in agriculture.

Abstract	The economic crisis resulted in attempts to speed up the process of consolidation of public finances in the European Union. The purpose of this article is to determine the scale and nature of changes in the level of national state aid allocated to agriculture in recent years by the EU member states. The main source of data used on the types and scale of domestic agriculture aid granted by Member States of the EU in the period 2005–2010 was the European Commission. In the first part of the article the principles of aid for agriculture in the EU are discussed. Then the scale of support for this sector is presented. In the last part of the paper changes in the amount of support recorded in recent year are described.

Abstract	The article is an attempt at estimating the possession of durable goods in households facing financial and economic crisis. The data have been obtained from the field research conducted in ten largest Polish cities between June and September 2011. The sample consisted of 1896 respondents. To determine what durable goods are possessed by households faced by crisis, the availability of mechanical household appliances, infotainment and portable equipment is analysed. Then the article examines how long the equipment has been in use, the level of satisfaction of households’ demand for durable goods and changes in their availability. The article closes with a summation and major conclusions.

Abstract	An analysis of price changes at particular levels of main agri-food markets, namely cereal market, dairy market and meat market, implies that price shifts that occurred over the period of 2004–2011 were favourable for agriculture. Polish accession to the EU triggered increase in retail food prices. Despite considerable short-term fluctuation there were no substantial changes in the share of producers, processors and traders in retail prices of food. Price mechanism assured efficient price transmission between particular stages of food markets which after price shocks recovered to previous proportions of particular margins resulting from long-term equilibrium.

Abstract	Investment Risk Versus Rate of Return on Indexes on Warsaw Stock Exchange Index WIG20 includes shares of twenty largest and most liquid companies listed on WSE, the next forty are grouped in mWIG40 index, and another eighty – in the sWIG80 index. It is generally agreed that the index WIG20 allows to realize lower rates of return with a lower risk level than indexes mWIG40 and sWIG80. Directly proportional relationship between the rate of return and the investment risk comes from the CAPM model. The purpose of this research is to verify this view by analyzing rates of return and their volatility on indexes WIG20, mWIG40 and sWIG80 in the period 16.05.2005–7.04.2011. The results show reversed relationship between the rates of return and volatility on the indexes. Throughout the whole period the index WIG20 had the lowest rate of return, at the highest level of volatility, and the index sWIG80 – the highest rates of return with lowest risk level. The relationship changed with the capital market conditions. WIG20 index has achieved the best rate of return only during a fall in the value of indexes, but at the highest level of investment risk.

Abstract	The aim of the article is an attempt to look at the cultivation contract as an instrument of organisation of the agricultural market in the limited production system. The contract is considered with the example of one of the most ‘regulated’ agricultural markets, i.e. the sugar market. It is especially important to answer the question how much the current regulation of cultivation contracts enables the market to function effectively, in accordance with the assumptions of the Common Agricultural Policy. The article comprises both the issues concerning the changes taking place in the signing of cultivation contracts in different conditions of political systems and the role of the contract designated by the Community legislature after Poland’s accession to the European Union. The considerations end with an attempt to answer the question which direction the regulation of law concerning cultivation contracts should go from the point of view of a sugar beet grower and sugar manufacturer.

W opracowaniu wykorzystano głównie metodę opisową z wykorzystaniem tabel oraz rysunków. Wyniki badań pozwoliły na wskazanie najważniejszych uchybień obecnie realizowanych działań oraz wdrażanych instrumentów, a także sformułowanie postulatów dotyczących zmian WPR po roku 2013.
Abstract	The main aim of this article is an attempt at evaluation of chosen actions and instruments of financial support of CAP which have been implemented between 2007 – 2013. The source material was collected on the basis of a survey form conducted in multifarious institutions aimed at evaluation and implementation of CAP. The survey was based on the data gathered in five southern voivodeships. The descriptive method combined with tables and drawings complements this article. Not only did the results enable to adumbrate the most conspicuous negative sides of the current instruments of financial support, but they were also extremely helpful in the formulation of the demands concerning changes in CAP after the year 2013.

Abstract	The Contribution Fund of the Farmers Social Insurance (part of The Agricultural Social Insurance Fund – KRUS) is created form contributions into accident, health and maternity insurance and other sources specified in the statutes assuring full coverage of the contribution fund expenditure. For this type of insurance are not involved funds from the state budget. In recent years the fund has a quota of about 0.5 billion zł, equating income to expenditure. However, projections indicate that in the coming years, the Fund will not be able to meet its revenue expenditure. There are some opportunities to improve its financial situation. This would require the conversion of the Fund's insurance company. It seems that the path of restructuring in this case is straightforward because the Contribution Fund shall have legal personality, the Supervisory Board and Executive Board. If the Contribution Fund has become an insurance company, then it could result in crop insurance, buildings and livestock with subsidies from the state budget. This fund as an insurance company could realize the catastrophic insurance and insurance of forests or other agricultural assets, which currently does not insure commercial insurance companies.

Abstrakt	Program przygotowań do przeprowadzenia w Polsce Mistrzostw Europy w piłce nożnej w 2012 r. jest od kilku lat strategicznym przedsięwzięciem. Na proces ten składają się dwa zasadnicze zagadnienia: przygotowanie infrastruktury warunkującej przeprowadzenie turnieju oraz stworzenie odpowiedniej organizacji pozwalającej na maksymalnie sprawne przeprowadzenie tak dużej i długiej imprezy masowej. Należy podkreślić, że wszystkie elementy przygotowań do turnieju wymagają zastosowania możliwie nowoczesnych i wydajnych metod zarządzania. Efektywna realizacja zadań w aspekcie organizacyjnym w tym przypadku nie będzie jednorazowym działaniem w sytuacji awaryjnej, czy też nadzwyczajnej. Zmiana kulturowa (jeśli się dokona) może oznaczać, że polskie instytucje funkcjonują skutecznie w nowoczesnym środowisku zarządczym.
Abstract	The preparations for the conduct of the European Championships in Poland in football in 2012 is the strategic project for several years. This process consists of two fundamental issues: preparation of the infrastructure to carry out the tournament and conditioning the development of an appropriate organization which allows for up to the efficient conduct of such a large and long mass event. It should be emphasized that all elements of preparation for the tournament possibly require modern and efficient management methods. Efficient implementation of tasks in terms of their organization, in this case is not one-off in an emergency situation or emergency. Cultural change (if made?) may mean that Polish institutions function effectively in the modern managerial environment.

Abstract	This article shows the changes of structural census of agricultural enterprises which was lastly performed in 2010. The census of agriculture is published every ten years. The aim of the article is to show the impact of farm’s legal forms on sources of funding which is one of two main objectives of article’s research. Second objective explains the correlation of legal status of enterprises and sources of external funds. From the comparison of these two points, the result will either confirm or refute the claims that farms should have the highest contribution of external capital to achieve the ideal results. In the paper the difference in funding between the two legal forms was confirmed. The indebtedness of commercial companies is considerably higher in both observed years (2003, 2009). Another finding is that during the observed period (2003-2009) the proportion of commercial companies with higher indebtedness increased significantly. Since Slovakia joined the EU the amount of external sources has risen and it is still rising. But a positive respond in profitability of agriculture enterprises was not observed, as would be expected. According to the Cluster Analysis the centroids of both legal forms were unprofitable in 2003. By comparison between the year 2003, the year in which Slovakia joined the EU and the year 2009, we observe an overall increase in the economic result from the negative to the positive integers. The year 2009 from the point of view of the farmers we can apperceive as a positive year in terms of the world prices, which were on the historical highest level. These prices were supported by a weak U.S. dollar. In the paper the difference in management of the two legal forms was confirmed. In both observed years commercial companies have the highest ratio of external funds, the lowest number employees and the lowest area per hectare. And cooperatives can be characterized with the highest number of employees and also the highest area per hectare.
