| Title | Changes in selected elements of the chicken meat market in Poland against the background of markets in the other EU countries |
| Słowa kluczowe | drób, międzynarodowy rynek mięsa, Polska, UE |
| Key words | poultry, international meat market, Poland, EU |
| Abstrakt | Celem pracy było porównanie wybranych elementów rynku mięsa drobiowego w Polsce i w pozostałych krajach członkowskich Unii Europejskiej w latach 1961-2003. Najmniej drobiu importuje i eksportuje Malta. |
| Abstract | The aim of the paper was to compare selected elements of poultry meat market in Poland and in the other European Union countries in years 1961 through 2003. The statistical data were collected from FAOSTAT. Basic trade statistics and the dependence on imports were calculated. It turned out that both in Poland and in the other EU countries the consumption of the chicken meat grew up, in Poland particularly replacing the consumption of beef meat. Great Britain is the largest importer of poultry and the largest exporter is the Netherlands. Malta imports and exports the least amounts of poultry. |

| Słowa kluczowe | |
| Key words | apple growing, Polish orchards, exports |
| Abstrakt | |
| Abstract | Poland is the largest producer of apples in Europe. Statistical analysis of data concerning harvests, yields, age and varieties of apple trees shows the Polish leader position. Visible changes in the new apple orchards are responding to the preferences of modern consumers. Russia and the European Union are main recipients of Polish apples. Though consumer apples are dominating in the structure of sales, also industrial apples and apple concentrate will be supplementing Polish exports abroad in the near future. |

| Abstract | Food safety and quality are main issues in food economics. The first part of this paper deals with food quality in Poland before and after the process of integration with the EU. The conducted analysis have confirmed the improvement of Polish food quality. The sanitary conditions of Polish processing plants have also improved. But the concentration of nitrates is still very high in some vegetable products. The second part contains an analysis of the Polish exports and imports and their changes in the economic transition process. Wheat imports were higher than exports. In addition to this, the survey proved that Poland is self-sufficient in food production and food safety has improved in the transition period |

| Title | The evaluation of Dairy Cooperatives' Competitiveness |
| Słowa kluczowe | |
| Key words | |
| Abstrakt | |
| Abstract | The study presents the comparative analysis of competitiveness' level of dairy cooperatives, which exports their products to the UE market and cooperatives from Świętokrzyskie province, which are not entitled to the export to the UE market. Cooperatives exporting their products to the UE market (group A) in the years 1998-2001 showed the increase of milk processing while in cooperatives from Świętokrzyskie province the decrease ensued. The cooperatives from group A were also characterized by three times higher level of average delivery of milk as well as the share in the purchase of extra class milk. In 2001 cooperatives Świętokrzyskie province incurred loss while group A cooperatives achieved increasing significant profit. The competitive strength of milk · deliverers is larger in a group of cooperatives in Świętokrzyskie province because those cooperatives do not achieve the cost advantage for the sake of the low concentration of the production. The biggest threat to dairy cooperatives is in the buyers' strong influence on the volume of sale and in buyers' possibility to change a cooperative delivering them dairy products. The level of competition's intensity in the scope of products offered by cooperatives was similar, highest in the case of milk, cheese, sour and sour cream and lowest in case of powder milk and butter. The necessity of covering large capital needs as well as difficulties in access to distribution channels were described as largest barriers to entry and considerable small barrier is the competitive activity of already existing enterprises. In the opinion of cooperatives' managers the possibility of appearing new substitutes of dairy products, except for butter, is low. |
