| Abstrakt | The aim of the paper was to identify positive as well as negative local development factors in the opinion of the authorities (mayors) of rural and semi-urban (urban-rural) municipalities in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship, Poland. The research was based on a survey within local authorities of the Warmia and Mazury region and was carried out in 2017. The results show that the local authorities have been aware of numerous opportunities and barriers of local economic development. Sometimes, if there is one barrier, it causes the formation of new ones, for example the shortage of own financial resources or municipal debt make it impossible to finance investments from the local budget or to apply for EU funds, which require co-financing from the beneficiary’s own resources. Most of mayors make efforts to mitigate exogenous conditions by local activeness, such as co-operation with neighbouring or foreign municipalities or offering preferential tax rates to investors. Municipal authorities perceive the opportunity in applying for EU funds for projects aimed at improving the quality of life of local communities, including the development of technical and social infrastructure. |

| Abstrakt | The objective of this paper is to evaluate the customer service quality at the cooperative banks in Poland and to test the extent of the customer oriented approach of selling banking services based on the relational model. The customer service level at the cooperative banks was evaluated as low in comparison with the results achieved by the commercial banks. The principles of the relational model and the customer-oriented sales model were fulfilled in 36%. The analysis of the needs, using the feedback about the customer, the customer commitment and the effective sales were the least implemented. The highest level of implementation concerned the principles of comfortable customer service, the greeting and presentation of the offer. The selling efficiency is highly correlated with upholding the principles of a customer-oriented sales model. The study used the Mystery Shopper method. |

| Abstrakt | One of the main objectives of both local and regional development is to increase the level of satisfaction of the needs and preferences of residents, which implies an increase in the quality of life in a particular area. Therefore, it is important to define strategic directions and priorities of activities which are of key importance from the point of view of satisfying the needs of the communes’ residents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify and analyse priority directions of expenditure in selected rural communes of the Lubelskie voivodeship in the opinion of their residents, as compared with urban and urban-rural communes. In order to achieve the research objective, a survey was conducted among the residents of selected communes of the Lubelskie voivodeship. The survey showed that according to respondents from rural communes, the priority directions of expenditure included roads and pavements with street lighting, healthcare, tourism, recreational and sports infrastructure, as well as support for the development of investment areas. Investment needs related to social infrastructure, social welfare and pro-environmental activities were also of relative importance. Respondents from rural communes more often indicated the majority of the above investment needs than respondents from urban-rural and urban communes (except for recreational infrastructure and pro-environmental measures, tourist trails in urban-rural communes and sports and healthcare infrastructure in urban communes). |

| Abstrakt | Within the framework of implementation of overarching national tasks, special attention is paid to the food production and the matter of keeping up with the consumer demand for quality food, which is of national significance. The poultry industry is able to make its fairly considerable contribution into solving the problems of the consumer demand for valuable healthy food products; and to create conditions for the national food security owing to this industry economic growth based on its production potential development and strengthening. The domestic and foreign practice clearly demonstrates that it is possible to provide the population with quality food within a relatively short term, primarily due to the increase of egg and poultry meat production. The poultry industry is not only the most dynamic and fast-growing branch of the livestock farming, but also it has the most intensive production methods. The aim of this article is to determine the influence and the role of the poultry industry on providing the population with food supplies in present-day conditions in the world. |

| Abstrakt | Water footprint accounting has contributed to show that livestock production, and dairy production in particular, have a non-negligible impact in terms of freshwater appropriation (Palhares and Mezzopane, 2015). In this line of research, Allocca et al (2018) have contributed to the scientific debate pointing out that livestock grazing can have a substantial effect in terms of the environment-related grey water footprint (GWFenv) originating from microbial contamination. However, cattle grazing can be a source of contamination also for chemical parameters, precisely nitrate, nitrite and ammonium. Albeit the microbial impact of cattle grazing has been documented by Allocca et al. (2018), they did not take into account possible consequences of the grazing activity in terms of chemical contamination, namely nitrates. This aspect is worth to be examined, since nitrates are important parameters to be evaluated when establishing guidelines for protecting aquatic life and/or ambient water quality for recreation use. |

| Abstrakt | In the late 1980s, inland aquaculture in Poland produced about 20 and 4 thousand tonnes of carp and trout, respectively. In 2016, the total volume of the sector’s production increased to over 35 thousand tonnes, including 18 and 16 thousand tonnes of the two species and above 1 thousand tonnes of another fish. This constitutes 94% of total catches of inland fish and about 15% including sea fishing. Globally, roughly 50% of seafood supply is produced by aquaculture, and farmed fish production exceeds that of farmed beef. The EU’s Blue Growth Strategy identifies aquaculture as a sector which could boost economic growth across Europe. The key challenges in the Polish aquaculture sector is significant production growth to 49 thousand tonnes by 2020 and increasing its competitiveness by using resources more effectively, supporting the market by building distribution chains, improving the quality of products and marketing, as well as increasing contribution to environmental protection. |

| Abstrakt | The article substantiates that entrepreneurship is the basis of the country’s economy, a prerequisite for the revival of rural areas. It represents environmental factors that impede the formation of a competitive business environment in the Ukraine, and, accordingly, the achievement of indicators of efficiency of entrepreneurial activity. The essence of competence of the entrepreneur and its components is also considered. Different points of view of scientists are generalized and a list of competencies, which should be owned and developed by an entrepreneur in the course of his/her activity in order to harmoniously grow as a socially responsible person is also presented in the paper. The expediency of forming entrepreneurial competence in the process of vocational training of young people to life in society, their future activity in new market conditions, as well as the logical sequence of using the skills and abilities of an entrepreneur through the implementation of key competencies is substantiated. The methodical aspects of assessing the level of competence of the entrepreneur are provided. The results of this will allow to develop directions and measures for improving the process of forming the entrepreneurial competence of employees, increasing the quality of the work force, and providing competitive advantages through the use of human resources in the agricultural sector of the economy. |

| Abstrakt | Celem artykułu jest ukazanie stanu bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego Polski oraz trzech krajów Europy Wschodniej sąsiadujących z naszym krajem: Białorusi, Rosji i Ukrainy. Analizowane kraje różnią się między sobą zarówno pod względem wielkości posiadanego potencjału gospodarczego, wielkości samych gospodarek, jak i poziomem ich rozwoju. Gospodarki poszczególnych krajów charakteryzuje też określona specyfika. W pierwszej części opracowania ukazano podstawy teoretyczne analizy bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego jako elementu bezpieczeństwa ekonomicznego. W następnej części dokonano charakterystyki analizowanych krajów, ukazując ich specyfikę oraz główne determinanty rozwoju. W części analitycznej przedstawiono stan bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego analizowanych krajów, wykorzystując Global Food Security Index, który został opracowany na zlecenie firmy DuPont przez Economist Intelligence Unit. Ukazano trzy składowe indeksu bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego, jakimi są: dostępność cenowa, dostęp do żywności oraz jakość i bezpieczeństwo żywności. Biorąc pod uwagę niektóre determinanty składowych bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego, podjęto próbę oceny wpływu rozwoju gospodarczego poszczególnych krajów na ich bezpieczeństwo żywnościowe. |
| Abstract | The aim of the article is to present the state of food security in Poland and the three neighbouring Eastern European countries: Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The analysed countries differ in terms of the size of their economic potential, the size of the economies, and the level of their development. The economy of each country is also marked by specific characteristics. In the first part, the paper presents the theoretical basis of food security as an element of economic security. In the next part, the characteristics of the analysed countries are presented showing their specificity and main determinants of development. The empirical part describes the state of food security in the examined countries using the Global Food Security Index, which was developed at the request of DuPont by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Three components of the food safety index are presented: price availability, access to food as well as food quality and safety. Considering some determinants of food safety components, an attempt was made to assess the impact of economic development of individual countries on their food security |

| Abstrakt | The aim of the article is to analyse the scale of use and to assess the services related to modern information and communication technologies at food processing enterprises and to identify the dependencies between the obtained indices and the features characterising the entities surveyed. The grounds for considerations are findings of the surveys with 201 managers of enterprises of this sector, differentiated in terms of size. The analysis comprised the three areas of ICT services: telecommunications services, services related to software and consultancy in the IT area, and information-related services. The results indicate a wide scope of the use of ICT services – telecommunication services are used by all the entities surveyed, those related to software and consultancy – by three quarters, while information-related services – by almost 60%. In case of all entities there are noted growing outlays on their application, justified, on the one side, by the demand, and, on the other side, by high appraisals of their quality and up-to-datedness (more than 70% of indications) as well as their impact on competitiveness of the entities using them (percentages at the level of more than 60%). It must be said that there occur quite big differences in the indices obtained, due to the features of the enterprises in question. Most often statistically significant dependencies appear in case of information-related services – they are determined by the size of enterprises and the origin of their capital. In case of the services related to software and IT consultancy, the said dependencies also concern the enterprises’ size and, additionally, the range of their activities. Definitely most seldom the statistically significant dependencies occur in case of telecommunication services. |

| Abstrakt | Dutch disease phenomenon can be observed in a country that discovers an important and substantial natural resource deposit and starts exporting it on a large scale. In consequence, the country’s currency appreciates reducing competitiveness of its traditional export sector, including agricultural sector. The Dutch disease is considered to be one of the most significant reasons for the natural resource curse. The aim of the paper is to consolidate a growing literature on the Dutch disease and to provide theoretical framework for analysing this phenomenon. It refers to both developed and developing oil-exporting countries. The paper stresses the fact that the vulnerability to the Dutch disease depends strongly on economic policy, political regime and quality of institutions. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of the research was a multidimensional assessment of the quality of life in farmers’ households along with its synthetic measure and a typology of household classes, rendered by the measure. The 2015 data on 730 farmers’ households were used to analyse their quality of life in nine dimensions: material living conditions, employment, health, education, leisure and social relations, economic and physical security, civic participation, environmental quality, and the subjective assessment of well-being. Due to concomitance of features measured on metric and non-metric scales, generalized distance measure (GDM) was applied as part of the TOPSIS method to determine the distance of objects from the model values. The study drew on microdata from the Social Diagnosis survey conducted in 2015 by the Council for Social Monitoring, and employed clusterSim R-package for calculations. |

| Abstrakt | Within the framework of the paper, the author introduces issues connected to short food supply chains. There are many different forms of short food supply chains (SFSC), but they share a common characteristic of reduced numbers of intermediaries between the farmer or food producer, and the consumer. The growing interest in SFSCs is shown in the paper – this reflects mainly the consumer demand for quality and traceability, given the alarming health crises in food markets. From a customers’ point of view, SFSCs transfer more complete information about the origin of the food and, for producers, SFSCs retain a higher share of added value. The overview on the impact of short supply chains is provided in the paper. The results of the analysis show that the supply chain may have some beneficial economic effects. It is noticed that the SFSCs have potential to increase farm value added (profit allocation), promote sustainable farming systems, diversify production and contribute to local economic development. |

| Abstrakt | A health care is characterised of creating an individual, specific relation between representatives of health care units and patients, which means that not only medical staff professionalism but also an empathetic attitude towards patients are important questions. Literature regarding the issue of communication with patients is growing, there are as well workshops in an effective communication, nevertheless the topic is still of minor importance. Meanwhile, relations between medical personnel and patients may put a major impact on the quality of health care as well as patients satisfaction with medical services, what is important from a management point of view. A proper way of patients’ treatment by medical personnel may result not only in better attitude towards therapy, but also it may influence a more efficient management of health care facilities, as patient satisfied with medical services may recommend an organisation, which may have a positive impact on an institution’s image, allowing a manager to focus on more important aspects of an institution management. For the above reasons it is important to get to know medical personnel’s attitude to developing as well as improving communication skills in order to provide a holistic patients care, what can significantly influence a health care units management. Medical staff communication skills are important not only from a treatment perspective, but they can also be significant from the perspective of health care organisations management. The study material was gathered in the first quarter of 2014. In the final analysis questionnaires from 113 representatives of various medical professions were taken into consideration. The study results show that in the process of medical professionals education there is only a little attention paid to acquiring communication skills regarding communication between a patient and medical personnel. Also, the hypothesis according to which medical personnel is satisfied with communication with patients was confirmed. Furthermore, medical staff agree in stating that they care for a proper communication with patients. Conclusions coming from the study results may define a specific way of health care units management, which should comprise, among others, financial resources for trainings in medical personnel soft skills improvement. |

| Abstrakt | Specyfika usług implikuje konieczność monitorowania ich jakości. Stale poszukiwane są metody oceny usług nieangażujące konsumentów. Jedną z nich jest metoda tajemniczego klienta. Celem publikacji jest diagnoza procedur stosowanych w badaniach marketingowych, a w szczególności wykorzystanie metody tajemniczego klienta w której ocena jest prowadzona przez zespół osób. Dla sprawdzenia tego podejścia zastosowano ocenę jakości usług gastronomicznych w wybranych placówkach sieci restauracji, takich jak: Pizza Hut, Pizzeria Da Grasso, Bobby Burger i Bierhalle. Innowacją w badaniu było wykorzystanie grupowej oceny usługi. Przyjęta metodyka pozwoliła na przeprowadzenie badania w zbliżonych do rzeczywistych warunków, gdyż zwykle ludzie idą do restauracji w kilka osób. Budowanie zespołów, które wspólnie oceniałyby jakość usług, daje również możliwość redukcji zróżnicowanej percepcji i różnych doświadczeń osób uczestniczących w badaniu. |
| Abstract | The specificity of services implies the need to monitor their quality. Methods for assessing non-consumer services are constantly sought after. The mystery client method is one of them. The purpose of this publication is to diagnose the procedures used in marketing research, and in particular to use the mysterious client method in which the assessment is conducted by a team of people. To verify this approach, the quality assessment of gastronomic services was used in selected restaurant chains, such as Pizza Hut, Pizzeria Da Grasso, Bobby Burger and Bierhalle. The innovation in the study was the use of group to evaluate services. The adopted methodology allowed to conduct the study in close to real conditions, because usually people go to a restaurant together. Building teams that would jointly assess the quality of services gives also the opportunity to reduce the diversification in perception and different experiences of people participating in the study. |

| Abstrakt | Jakości życia wyrażana jest nie tylko poprzez konsumpcję dóbr materialnych i usług, ale przede wszystkim przez możliwość zaspokojenia potrzeb związanych np. ze stanem środowiska naturalnego, rodzajem i postacią więzi międzyludzkich, godnością i poszanowaniem praw człowieka, a także ilością i jakością wolnego czasu oraz samorealizacją. Rozległy wachlarz problemów i zjawisk pozostających w bezpośredniej relacji z jakością życia, sprawa, że jej pomiar jest zagadnieniem trudnym i cieszącym się niesłabnącym zainteresowaniem badaczy. Celem artykułu jest wielocechowa ocena jakości życia w województwach w Polsce z uwzględnieniem szczegółowego omówienia pomiarów jednowymiarowych i zmian w czasie. W wyniku przeprowadzonych analiz wykazano, że wyodrębniony zestaw zmiennych charakteryzuje się relatywną stabilnością w czasie. Ranking województw w roku 2016 nie odbiegał znacząco od rankingu przygotowanego dla roku 2010. Daje to podstawę aby sądzić, że wybrane zmienne można uznać, za kluczowych reprezentantów poszczególnych kategorii opisujących jakość życia. |
| Abstract | Quality of life is expressed not only through the consumption of material goods and services but above all by the ability to meet needs related to, for example, the state of the natural environment, the type and form of interpersonal relationships, dignity and respect for human rights, as well as the quantity and quality of free time and self-fulfilment. An extensive range of issues and phenomena that remain in direct relation to quality of life means that its measurement is a difficult problem and arouses the unflagging interest of researchers. The aim of the paper is a multivariate assessment of the quality of life in Poland’s voivodships, including a detailed discussion of univariate measurements and changes over time. The conducted analyses indicate that the selected set of variables is characterised by relative stability over time. The ranking of the voivodships in 2016 did not differ significantly from the ranking prepared for 2010. This gives grounds to believe that the selected variables can be considered as key representatives of individual categories describing quality of life. |

| Abstrakt | Przemysł spożywczy jest jednym z głównych ogniw (członów) gospodarki żywnościowej. Jest on największym odbiorcą nieprzetworzonych surowców rolnych, a zarazem głównym dostawcą żywności do sfery handlu (hurtowego i detalicznego). Znaczenie przemysłu spożywczego wzrasta też z tego powodu, że firmy przetwórcze często integrują podmioty biorące udział w procesie produkcji żywności od przysłowiowego pola do stołu. Sprzyja temu wzrost towarowości polskiego rolnictwa oraz rosnący popyt na żywność wysoko przetworzoną. W ostatnich latach przewagę w relacjach handlowych zyskały duże sieci handlowe (głównie z kapitałem zagranicznym), które często narzucają warunki sprzedaży dostawcom żywności (firmom spożywczym, producentom rolnym). |
| Abstract | The food industry is one of the main elements of the food economy. It is the biggest consumer of raw agricultural materials, and at the same time a primary input into the wholesale trade and retail market. The significance of the food industry is also growing, due to the fact that processing plants often integrate the entities that participate in food manufacturing processes, from the proverbial “field to table.” The high quality of Polish agriculture and the increasing demand for highly-processes foods is adding to the growth of the industry. In recent years, large retail chains have gained an advantage in trade relations (mainly with foreign capital). They often impose conditions for the sale of food suppliers (food companies and agricultural producers). |

| Abstract | This paper presents the original concept of measuring the level of investor relations of foodindustry companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The surveyed enterprises were assessed ineach of the four areas of investor relations quality: substantive content of websites, direct contact,financial information and non-financial information. The obtained results were arranged according tothe models of conducting investor relations. |
