Abstract	European Union consists of 27 countries that have different cultural, political and economic background. Therefore it seems to be necessary to monitor the socio-economic development level of the member states. The aim of the paper is to construct the synthetic measure to evaluate the socio-economic development level of the European Union members, and to classify the EU countries into groups of the similar countries, in terms of the aggregated measures. The research concerns 23 states being members of the European Union in 2004 (Malta and Cyprus were excluded from the analysis). Investigation cover the period from1990 to 2006. The synthetic taxonomic measure is constructed employing 21 economic and social indicators. The broad discussion about the diagnostic variables is presented. The EU countries are classified according to the value of the taxonomic measures and Human Development Index. The results of classification obtained by applying two different aggregated measures are compared.

Title	The Use of Vectors Elimination Method in the Analysis of the Structure’s Changes on the Labour Market

Abstract	In the paper the changes of the structure of an economic activity in Poland in the span of 1993–2008 was presented. The main aim of the article is an attempt of segmentation of analysed time period on periods characterised by similarity of the labour market structure within period. As the elements of analyzed structure authors selected four categories: employed persons on a full-time basis, employed persons on the part-time basis, unemployed persons and professionally passive persons. The segmentation of analysed time period was conducted with the use of vectors elimination method, assuming arithmetical average of non-diagonal elements of the lack of structures similarity measurements matrix as threshold value. As the result of the procedure three time periods were distinguished, characterized by the similarity within period, i.e. 1993–1999, 2000–2006 and 2007–2008.

Abstract	At the beginning of hyper- and supermarkets’ presence in Poland, distribution of goods was based on direct deliveries from producers or middlemen to the specific stores. For the last few years the majority of supermarket chains have switched to supplying goods from their own or outsourced distribution centres. Central fresh food stuffs’ warehouses are based on the cross-docking system. The centralization of deliveries is perceived by fruit and vegetable producers in various ways. Cross-docking enables the supermarket chains to have full control over logistics and its safety, high availability of supply, reduction of storage space in the stores and reduction of the loss level

Abstract	Major foodservice trends have been changing over time in Poland, especially within the last years. The purpose of the paper was an analysis of situation in the foodservice market of Poland at the beginning of XXI century. Nowadays many different factors affect eating out. The most important are: economic growth, demographic and cultural trends, structure of households and their incomes, changes of eating habits, and finally development of foodservice market. The appearance of different new trends and functions in foodservice sector is observed. It is hypothesized further development of foodservice market in Poland as an important segment of Polish economy.

Abstract	In the paper inhabitant’s income depending on Mazowieckie voivodship commune development level were presented. In the first research stage the communes’ development level was described by synthetic index (based on regional Data Bank 2004). Then, local government representatives responded questions in a survey that was carried out in 2007 in those communes. In the group of the most developed communes respondents most often pointed out that the inhabitant’s income are above country average. There is stratifycation of inhabitant’s income and the opinions were similar in both groups of local communes. The regularity was noticed that the lower development level is the lower inhabitant’s incomes were estimated

Abstract	Results of the analysis of building and implementation of the cadastre communications system effectiveness’ risk, quantified by NPV algorithm, clearly justifies introducing two models of assumed costs identified as a risk factor. Indirect methods used for risk measuring, based on the basis scenario of the most possible costs of communications infrastructure confirmed meeting the positive criterion based on NPV algorithm. Both sensitivity ratio model and relative and absolute margin of safety permit large elasticity in the scope of shaping costs of communications infrastructure leaving reserve exceeding 50% increase from values implemented in forecasts. The limit of profitability, quantified by condition of NPV < 0, is raising these costs to the amount of 169 409 351 PLN per year (totally during nine years to the amount of 1 524 684 159 PLN).

Abstract	Demand for touristic services is above all the result of tourists’ needs but its scale and structure are defined by many economic and non-economic factors. The paper presents the issues pertaining to tourist demand and the results of empirical research carried out among tourists spending their holidays in 14 communities of Eastern Poland’s borderland. The most popular forms of tourist activities among the respondents are a few days’ long outings arranged several times a year. As to the choice of location, low prices proved the decisive factor, and family and friends proved to be the main source of information. In regards to the elements of the tourist products, natural values of a given area is the most influential, while easy communication and tourist services is the least influential
