RISKS IN AGRICULTURE ACTIVITY AND THEIR PERCEPTION BY THE FARMERS

Abstract
In the article research results of risk perception by farmers are presented. The aim of research was to determine which risks connected to agriculture are perceived by the farmers as the threat for their farms and production. Survey was carried out within 70 farms in Łódź province. Risks connected with crop production have been analysed. Incurred losses were mainly due to natural (weather) factors. The analysis, that was carried out, showed that in the farmers’ opinion sets of risks in the entire agriculture are quite different than in their own farm. The biggest differences concerned such occurrences as flood, hail and downpour. These differences in perception can cause that preparing insurance offer for farms become more difficult. In particular, as surveys showed, farmers are willing to retain risk, if they assess, that its influence will not cause losses exceeding 25% of their production.
