Abstract | The problem of balanced development is closely connected to the process of multi-functional development of rural areas. Lowering role of agricultural activity as source of maintenance rural population requires implementing of non-agricultural economic activities into rural areas. The goal of the paper was to identify most important factors that have influence on the development of entrepreneurship what leads to improvement of life status in rural areas. Social and economic transformation of Polish rural areas is still in progress. Low level of technical and social infrastructure, the characteristic feature of Polis countryside does not attract investors. Therefore the entrepreneurship level can develop proper only if supported by local and state authorities. |

Abstrakt | |
Abstract | The article presents the results of parameter estimation of production function in food industry in Poland. Author also calculated the marginal productivity of factors of production and used the marginal rate of substitution as a measure of substitution. It was stated that the output elasticity is higher with regard to labour input than to capital input. It means that exist way to obtain bigger growth in production in food industry by increasing labour input. Moreover, in some branches of food industry the value of marginal rate of substitution indicates that decrease of labour input by one unit requires significant increase of capital input in order to maintain the previous level of production. |

Abstract | The elaboration estimates the managers opinion from small and medium size enterprises in Świętokrzyski region take into account management and investments in fixed assets. Most of the enterprises noted increasing productive potential as well as development. The research period were characterized by significant increase of equipment and machine participation in assets structure of these enterprises. This is positive trend reflected in profitable tendency increase companies operation potential by fixed assets. The main source of financing the fixed assets was the equity capital. The managers have been guided by the level of cash during a selection of financial resources. The enterprises managers were planning enhancing the level of fixed assets equipment, through equity capital involvement, which is simply safer. |

Abstract | The aim of the paper is to define the size and differentiation of agricultural tax concerning farms participating in the system of accounting data collection system FADN in years 2004–2007. The agricultural farms were classified according to the area of productive land and by type of the farming. The highest agricultural taxation was found in the smallest farms areas and in types: „ field crops” and „mixed crops”. In these groups of farms low relation of the agricultural tax to the size of support from the government was observed. This relation showed the real decrease of agricultural taxation burdens what resulted in the decrease of market accommodation processes. |

Abstract | This paper aims at presenting factors contributing to agricultural income level differentiation in the EU. Statistical data provided by the European Commission and French agricultural chambers was used. The importance issue of cost structure for agricultural profitability was discussed. Certain UE member states have a high share of land lease, bank loan interest payments or farm worker remuneration in their cost structures. The significance of the definitional difference between agricultural income and the income of farmers was emphasized. Taking into account income from non-agricultural sources leads to a lower differentiation of farmer income. One of the principal determinants of income differentiation is varying farm structures across member states. Finally, the impact of the construction of the agricultural support system on income differentiation should not be neglected |

Abstract | The paper aims at analyzing links between the motivating employees and the financial condition on the examined companies. The conducted research showed that there were differences in motivating process between companies in good and in difficult financial situation. Companies with good financial standing were characterized by more diverse, attractive and flexible tools of motivating as well as better adjustment of the tools to the workers’ needs. Showing the strengths and weaknesses of motivating tools in the examined companies, made it possible to identify the key factors having impact on affected on the effectiveness of motivating processes as well as positively influencing financial condition of enterprises. |

Abstract | In the last few years, a dynamic development of the service sector has been observed in Poland. An increase in the importance of services is a result of a civilisation development, and it is getting more and more meaningful due to an increasing number of employees and the value of provided services. The main aim of this study was to analyze the preferences of consumers from big cities (on the example of Warsaw) on choosing the place and the frequency of dining in restaurants. I have tried to find the relations between the chosen demographic indicators (age, sex, place of stay) and dining habits. It was noticed that dining in restaurants, for almost all taking part in the survey, is rather occasional than common. However, for some of the respondents, it is an everyday (or almost everyday) way of dining. It was also noticed that dining out is common for young people at the ages between 25 and 29. |

Abstract | The article describes and characterizes the models of currency crises. The presentation of the first-generation model is based on the crisis in Latin America, the second-generation model based on the crisis of European Monetary System and the Asian crisis exemplifi es the third-generation model. The article demonstrates a non-zero-sum game which displays the role of the currency reserves. It is shown that the level of the currency reserves has an impast on both the probability of potential speculative attack and the investors’ way of thinking, as well as their investment strategies. |

Abstract | The research aimed at making an inventory of recent and ongoing fruit market and fruit product innovations and at assessing what new or improved features they offer, and whether consumers are able to identify and/or recognise them. The list of innovations obtained has been coded, categorised, sorted, and reduced in subsequent stages. First, the examples received were categorised according to the Oslo Manual definitions. Second, product and marketing innovations were selected, as they are the only ones that were likely to be recognised by consumers. Next, the analysis revealed that the novelties these innovations offered related to Convenience, Health, Differentiation, Target Group, Information, Sensory Characteristics, In Home and/or Out of Home and Quality. Some innovations offered only one novel aspect, whereas others offered multiple aspects. Interrelationships between novel aspects are discussed for those innovations that offered a combination of aspects. |

Abstract | Agroecotourism is becoming the most dynamical branch of the world tourist industry. The Republic of Belarus has inexhaustible potential for the development of agroecotourism. It promotes a steady development of rural regions, raises well-being of its inhabitants by attracting investments, creates modern social infrastructure and new work places, contributes to the achievement of social and cultural purposes. Agroecotourism is considered to be an important component of a successful realization of the ‘State Program for the Revival and Development of the Countryside in the Republic of Belarus for 2005-2010’. The problem is that the agrotouristic enterprises have not enough money to increase the scale of realization of basic concepts and models stipulated by the National Program. Maintaining and developing the natural and human potential of Belarus will require making the agroecotourism a profitable branch of the agrarian sector of economy. |

Abstract | The use of borrowed capital in Latvian agricultural holdings of different economic size and type of farming is analyzed, as well as a comparative analysis with Polish agricultural holdings is performed, defining essential specificities of financing activities with equity or loan in each state. The liabilities burden in Latvian field crop and dairy farms is calculated and discussed in detail. For the assessment ratio of the statistical significance of differences between Latvian and Polish agricultural holdings the debt-to-equity and total liabilities per ESU, per 1 ha UAA and 1 LU, a statistical testing is carried out and main conclusions about an impact of the type of farming, the economic size and the chronological factor are formulated. |

However the significant increases of budgetary support do not substantially influence the effectiveness indices nor agricultural yields. Such information testifies to an imperfect nature of the internal support mechanism of Ukrainian agriculture. As the result, the domestic support did not become an effective stimulus for a production quality increase nor for a rise in the stock breeding production. In 2008 Ukraine gathered the biggest grain harvest. Increased production did not improve the financial results of agriculture and did not produce a stable and dynamic branch development because of the negative influence of world finance crises. Unbalanced supply and demand for agricultural production, low buying ability of inhabitants, lack of branch effective mechanism of domestic support caused complications of price situation in the domestic food market |

Abstrakt | |
Abstract | Authors define and explain the meaning of two concepts, namely human and social capital and their influence on the socio-economic progress in agriculture and rural areas. The presented studies and analyses point to the link between the growing role of these two factors and the general socio-economic progress. A major part of the paper is devoted to analysing the past and current state of human and social capital in Poland, focusing on their deficiencies and the need to improve their quality. In conclusion the authors note that the significant inflow of financial means after the the Polisj accession to the EU as well as structural and administrative changes will not bring in full the possible benefits in the future unless there is an improvement in quality and an increase of creative participation of the human and social capital. The health aspect is also explored in the paper as a crucial element influencing human capital in the Polish rural areas. |
