Abstrakt | Animal production is a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One of the major challenges in sustainable management is to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing GHG emissions. The diversity of animal production systems and accompanying diversification of technological processes, mean that specific production effects can be obtained at different levels of GHG emissions. The aim of the study was to determine the carbon footprint (CF) of beef cattle grown in a conventional system (i.e. indoor confinement). The research was carried out on the beef cattle farm belonging to a large-area enterprise, Długie Stare Ltd. The beef cattle production system consisted of the following subsystems: a basic breeding herd (consisting of suckler cows, replacement heifers and calves up to 6.5 months), breeding heifers, breeding bulls and fattening bulls. The method of life cycle analysis (LCA) in the stages from "cradle-to-farmgate" was used to assess the GHG emissions associated with the production of beef cattle. The average CF in the entire beef cattle production system was 25.43 kg of CO2 kg-1 of live weight of marketed cattle, while in the individual subsystems of basic breeding herd, breeding heifers, breeding bulls and fattening bulls, the CF (after GHG allocation) was: 11.0 kg CO2 eq., 34.30 kg CO2 eq., 27.32 and 25.40 kg CO2 eq., respectively. GHG emissions associated with young calves staying in the cow-calf pairs until weaning (in the period from 0-6.5 months), had a decisive influence on the final CF in each of the subsystems of beef cattle production. The second important factor directly affecting the CF was GHG emissions related to methane (CH4) enteric fermentation and manure management. Knowledge of factors affecting the CF structure allows better identification of critical areas in production processes with high GHG emission potential. Information on the CF of beef cattle and beef meat responds to a wider societal demand for the ecological characteristics of market products, which ultimately contributes to improving their market competitiveness. |

Abstrakt | The study aims to clarify the relationship between well-being at work and motivation to undertake additional learning activities. It was conducted among 96 professionally active individuals, students of Bachelor’s and supplementary Master’s degree studies with majors in Economics and Management as well as Master’s degree students having an Individual Course of Studies majoring in Psychology. The hypotheses have been verified using: the Well-being in the Workplace Questionnaire by Czerw (2017), the Job Satisfaction questionnaire by Bajcar et al. (2011) and an original questionnaire of activity and motivation in the field of learning. The study results indicate that there is a relationship between certain dimensions of well-being at work and motivation to undertake additional learning activities. |

Abstrakt | Enterprises from the SME sector significantly affect the quality of human capital in Poland and the standards of their management are rising every year. The aim of this article is to present the essence and specifics of human capital of SMEs, showing the impact of European integration on the devel-opment of human capital in this sector. In addition, the authors focus on finding the answer to the question whether employers willingly reach for EU funding (sources of knowledge, forms, types of funding, barriers to access to funds) to be able to support and develop human capital that they have in the long run. The study was carried out by a survey method. The analysis made allowed to formu-late the following conclusions. Entrepreneurs willingly undertake to raise funds from EU funds. Re-spondents were convinced that EU funds help in the development of their businesses, although ob-taining funding alone is not easy. The respondents pointed to barriers, which include complicated and lengthy procedures, as well as low availability of information. |

Abstrakt | W artykule zaprezentowano zmiany stanu wyposażenia obszarów wiejskich powiatu olsztyńskiego ziemskiego w systemy odprowadzania ścieków bytowych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków. Dane pochodziły z zasobów GUS-BDL. Obliczono udział ludności korzystającej z wodociągów i kanalizacji oraz zaprezentowano liczbę komunalnych oczyszczalni ścieków. Dane dotyczące przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków i zbiorników bezodpływowych przeanalizowano na 1000 mieszkańców oraz na 100 km2 powierzchni. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że wyposażenie w systemy odprowadzania ścieków rośnie. Szczególnie korzystnie rośnie liczba przydomowych oczyszczalni ścieków i nie spada liczba bezodpływowych zbiorników. Jest to wynikiem rosnącej liczby gospodarstw domowych i mieszkańców zwłaszcza w gminach otaczających Olsztyn. |
Abstract | The purpose of the study was to evaluate, in a local approach, the state of supply of rural areas in a rural district with household wastewater management systems, with the focus on home wastewater treatment plants. The study covered the rural areas of the district of Olsztyn. The data, which were acquired from the Bank of Local Data, were processed through basic mathematical transformations and statistical measures. The structure and intensity indices were calculated per 1,000 residents. Large differences were found in the access to linear infrastructure and to individual systems of wastewater discharge. The results showed a constant increase in the number of home wastewater treatment plants and septic tanks due to the constant influx of people to villages lying around the town of Olsztyn. In contrast to studies conducted on a regional scale, no decrease in the number of septic tanks was observed correlated with the growing number of home wastewater treatment plants. A possible reason can be the specific environmental conditions and protection of inland waters, which limit possible locations of home wastewater treatment plants. |

Abstrakt | The article describes the activities related to running innovative activities and presents the dynamics of changes in expenditure on research and development as well as innovation in Podkarpackie Voivodeship in the years 2005–2016. Following article consist short characteristic of activities connected with innovation issue. It was found that the number of entities conducting R&D activities increased four times, and thus the employment of people dealing with research and development would grow as well. Similarly, the expenditure of these entities on the implementation of innovations increased, which, however, depended to some extent on the availability of EU funds. Thereby, in the period of reduced access to EU programs supporting the conduct of R&D activity, the expenditure of entities on these activities also slightly decreased. |

Abstrakt | Within the framework of the paper, the author introduces issues connected to short food supply chains. There are many different forms of short food supply chains (SFSC), but they share a common characteristic of reduced numbers of intermediaries between the farmer or food producer, and the consumer. The growing interest in SFSCs is shown in the paper – this reflects mainly the consumer demand for quality and traceability, given the alarming health crises in food markets. From a customers’ point of view, SFSCs transfer more complete information about the origin of the food and, for producers, SFSCs retain a higher share of added value. The overview on the impact of short supply chains is provided in the paper. The results of the analysis show that the supply chain may have some beneficial economic effects. It is noticed that the SFSCs have potential to increase farm value added (profit allocation), promote sustainable farming systems, diversify production and contribute to local economic development. |

Abstrakt | A health care is characterised of creating an individual, specific relation between representatives of health care units and patients, which means that not only medical staff professionalism but also an empathetic attitude towards patients are important questions. Literature regarding the issue of communication with patients is growing, there are as well workshops in an effective communication, nevertheless the topic is still of minor importance. Meanwhile, relations between medical personnel and patients may put a major impact on the quality of health care as well as patients satisfaction with medical services, what is important from a management point of view. A proper way of patients’ treatment by medical personnel may result not only in better attitude towards therapy, but also it may influence a more efficient management of health care facilities, as patient satisfied with medical services may recommend an organisation, which may have a positive impact on an institution’s image, allowing a manager to focus on more important aspects of an institution management. For the above reasons it is important to get to know medical personnel’s attitude to developing as well as improving communication skills in order to provide a holistic patients care, what can significantly influence a health care units management. Medical staff communication skills are important not only from a treatment perspective, but they can also be significant from the perspective of health care organisations management. The study material was gathered in the first quarter of 2014. In the final analysis questionnaires from 113 representatives of various medical professions were taken into consideration. The study results show that in the process of medical professionals education there is only a little attention paid to acquiring communication skills regarding communication between a patient and medical personnel. Also, the hypothesis according to which medical personnel is satisfied with communication with patients was confirmed. Furthermore, medical staff agree in stating that they care for a proper communication with patients. Conclusions coming from the study results may define a specific way of health care units management, which should comprise, among others, financial resources for trainings in medical personnel soft skills improvement. |

There is no obvious connection between the presence of foreign banks in the banking system and indicators of profitability, ease of doing business and financial stability of banking systems. This is confirmed by the correlation analysis of 45 indicators on the example of 26 European countries for 2009–2011 (the period immediately after the end of the global financial crisis of 2008–2009). It is proved that in the post-crisis period, for transnational banks, the decision of increasing/decreasing the volume of assets in the banking system of the host country is dominated by: 1) the structure of a complex financial crisis; 2) the speed of post-crisis recovery of economies and banking systems of these countries; 3) the effectiveness of the transmission mechanism of monetary policy in these countries |

Abstract | As the realities of economic practice show, the management of enterprise, seeking on to maximize their private benefits and on the other hand to meet the expectations of all company’ stakeholders, can take action to show the economic situation of the enterprise in a better light in the eyes of its investors, creditors, employees etc., rather than indicates the economic reality. These activities are reflected in the earnings management phenomenon. The main goal of the article is to examine the scale and directions of operations related to intentional earnings management in public food companies using the discretionary accruals ratio distinguished by: the Jones model, the Kang-Sivaramakrishnan model and the Yoon et al. model. Empirical research was carried out in a group of 21 public food companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the years 2003-2016. |

Abstrakt | W artykule przedstawiono wpływ użytkowania ziemi na stabilność ekologiczną obszarów wiejskich województwa świętokrzyskiego. Na podstawie zestawień danych dotyczących 24 form użytkowania ziemi, dostępnych w Banku Danych Lokalnych GUS, obliczono wskaźnik stabilności ekologicznej powierzchni ziemi. W obrębie terenów rolniczych i nierolniczych wyróżniono cechy korzystne i niekorzystne z ekologicznego punktu widzenia. Klasyfikację typologiczną gmin wykonano z zastosowaniem metody hierarchicznej analizy skupień. Wyniki badań wskazują, że obszary wiejskie województwa świętokrzyskiego w obrazie ogólnym charakteryzują się stosunkowo małym wskaźnikiem stabilności ekologicznej, a jednocześnie bardzo dużym zróżnicowaniem przestrzennym. Przeprowadzona wskaźnikowa ocena stabilności ekologicznej terenów wiejskich gmin może być jednym z elementów uwzględnianych przy sporządzaniu różnych dokumentów planistycznych, w tym związanych z gospodarowaniem według zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju. |
Abstract | The paper presents the impact of land use on the ecological stability of rural areas in the Świętokrzyskie province. The work is based on the data published by the Local Data Bank regarding 24 types of land use. According to the methodology used for calculating the ecological stability indicator, these types were divided into two groups: agricultural (with positive and negative characteristics) and non-agricultural. Typological classification of communes was done with the use of Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. Research results show that rural areas of the Świętokrzyskie province have generally low ecological stability indicator, but they are characterised by high spatial diversity. The assessment of rural communes based on the ecological stability indicator may thus be one of the elements taken into consideration while drafting various planning documents, including those related to the management built on the sustainable development principles. |

Pozwala to na racjonalne wykorzystanie ograniczonych środków finansowych przy realizacji kosztownych prac scalenia i wymiany gruntów. |
Abstract | The paper examines the issue of scientific support to prevent the faulty structures of farms under the consolidation process. Taking place over decades, changes in the structure and ownership of land utilized for agricultural purposes, resulted in excessive disaggregation, which obstructs proper and efficient management. The author, using an example of the Jasionówka commune (province Podlaskie, district Monki), proposes the use of analytic hierarchy process (AHP) as an opportunity to determine the proper order to carry out consolidation in the respective cadastral district. This allows for a rational use of limited financial resources when carrying out costly consolidation and an exchange of agricultural plots. The analysis was performed taking into account the relevant factors characterizing the area. |

W strukturze zagospodarowania tych owoców dominuje przetwórstwo (produkcja soku zagęszczonego), następnie export i bezpośrednie spożycie. Zwiększenie wartości współczynnika opłacalności produkcji jabłek wymaga stałej optymalizacji warunków uprawy, wprowadzenia koncepcji logistyki do sprawnego zarządzania zaopatrzeniem, produkcją i dystrybucją oraz poszukiwania nowych rynków zbytu i efektywnych sposobów zagospodarowania nadpodaży owoców. |
Abstract | The aim of this paper was to assess the environmental and economic conditions of apple cultivation in Poland, including soil and climate conditions, production level and its profitability, the structure of management based on source materials using a descriptive and comparative method. Due to good soil and climatic conditions, Poland is the largest producer of apples in the EU and one of the largest in the world. In the utilization structure of these fruits is dominated by food processing (especially production of concentrated juice), followed by export and direct consumption. Increasing the values of profitability production index, requires optimization of cultivation conditions, introduction of the logistics concept for efficient management of supply, production and distribution as well as searching for new markets and effective ways of managing the oversupply of fruit. |

Abstrakt | W artykule zaprezentowane i omówione zostały czynniki motywacji personelu sprzedażowego. Podstawowa teza artykułu skoncentrowana została na omówieniu instrumentów wykorzystanych przez kadrę menadżerską do konstruowania systemu motywacji. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja instrumentów motywacji stosowanych w przedsiębiorstwach z uwzględnieniem kryterium wielkości oraz segmentu rynku i rodzaju klientów. Zidentyfikowane zależności mogą mieć istotny wpływ na przyszły kształt i charakter tworzonych systemów motywacyjnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli personelu sprzedażowego, działającego w bezpośrednim kontakcie z klientami.W autorskich badaniach, dotyczących zarządzania relacjami z klientem, przeprowadzonych metodą CATI wśród małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw w województwie opolskim, podjęte zostały m.in. zagadnienia związane z funkcjonowaniem personelu sprzedażowego odpowiedzialnego za współpracę z kapitałem klientów w tych przedsiębiorstwach.Na podstawie wyników przeprowadzonej kwerendy literaturowej, doświadczeń płynących ze współpracy z przedsiębiorstwami regionu oraz autorskich badań dot. zarządzania relacjami z kapitałem klienckim w sektorze MŚP, opracowane zostały rekomendacje dotyczące działań mających na celu kreowanie zaangażowania personelu sprzedażowego. |
Abstract | The article presents and discusses the motivations of sales staff. The basic thesis of the article was focused on discussing the instruments used by the managerial staff to construct the motivation system.The purpose of the article is to identify motivation instruments used in enterprises, taking into account the size criterion as well as market segments and the type of clients. Identified dependencies may have a significant impact on the future shape and nature of the motivation systems, developed with particular emphasis on the role of sales staff operating in direct contact with customers.In the author's research on customer relationship management carried out among small and medium-sized enterprises in the Opolskie voivodship, issues related to the operation of sales staff responsible for cooperation with clients' capital in these enterprises were also undertaken.Based on the results of a literature query, experience from cooperation with regional enterprises and original research on managing customer-relationship relations in the SME sector, recommendations have been developed regarding activities aimed at creating involvement of sales staff. |

Despite, Africa being rated the least among the continents contributing to the atmospheric pollution, it continues to be responsible for the least global emissions (estimated at 4%). Although they contributed to anthropogenic emission slightly, African continent is one of the highly vulnerable to impacts of long-term climate variability and extreme weather events, especially on the Nile. Moreover, developing countries are the most vulnerable to climate change impacts because they have fewer resources to adapt: socially, technologically and financially. Therefore, this paper is seeking to find and modify the regional development process in the frame of climate change along the Nile river. By considering some examples to accelerate the development process and methods in the Nile’s valley regions. Strongly related to the climate change impacts on different sectors and activities such agriculture, industry, energy, and the water supply and demand as well. |
