Title | Poland’s Position on the Investment Development Path |
Słowa kluczowe | Foreign Development Investment (FDI), Investment Development Path Model (IDP Model), Poland |
Key words | Foreign Development Investment (FDI), Investment Development Path Model (IDP Model), Poland |
Abstrakt | In the modern world based on open national economies, individual countries are closely related and even interdependent in terms of trade, investment flows, labor migration, as well as cooperation at the level of enterprises. The role of enterprises in foreign markets in the form of FDI is growing, while the national economies compete for the inflow of such capital. Due to the fact that since the 1990s Poland has been extensively involved in internationalization processes, it seems important to find answers to the questions: how has the inflow of FDI into the country evolved over the years; what position have Polish investors built in foreign markets during this time; and, finally, what is the current position of Poland on the investment development path. To answer these questions, research tools such as the review of domestic and foreign literature were used and desk research (based on NBP and UNCTAD statistical databases) was carried out to determine the position of the Polish economy in the IDP model. The analyses indicate that since 2008, Poland has been moving towards the third phase of the IDP model in a slow but steady manner. |

Abstrakt | It is established that the Ukrainian agrarian sector in recent years suffered quite serious reformational impacts on the institutional environment of the functioning of economic actors, in particular the influence of regulators on the transformation of agricultural development. It is substantiated that under institutional transformations it is appropriate to understand the changes that occur as part of the creation of new rules of conduct of participants, containing a specific mechanism for ensuring compliance with these rules, as well as improving organizational and economic regulators within the existing set of rules for all participants It is determined that the institutional system is a structured set of interrelated informal rules that determine, on the one hand, a system of incentives for increasing the efficiency of interaction between subjects of the agrarian economy, and, on the other hand, restricts the activities of economic agents, which create a certain framework for implementation their target functions in accordance with the law and public interests. |

Title | Carbon Footprint of Beef Cattle in a Conventional Production System: a Case Study of a Large-Area Farming Enterprise in the Wielkopolska Region |
Słowa kluczowe | carbon footprint, beef production, emission of greenhouse gases, life cycle assessment, agriculture |
Key words | carbon footprint, beef production, emission of greenhouse gases, life cycle assessment, agriculture |
Abstrakt | Animal production is a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One of the major challenges in sustainable management is to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing GHG emissions. The diversity of animal production systems and accompanying diversification of technological processes, mean that specific production effects can be obtained at different levels of GHG emissions. The aim of the study was to determine the carbon footprint (CF) of beef cattle grown in a conventional system (i.e. indoor confinement). The research was carried out on the beef cattle farm belonging to a large-area enterprise, Długie Stare Ltd. The beef cattle production system consisted of the following subsystems: a basic breeding herd (consisting of suckler cows, replacement heifers and calves up to 6.5 months), breeding heifers, breeding bulls and fattening bulls. The method of life cycle analysis (LCA) in the stages from "cradle-to-farmgate" was used to assess the GHG emissions associated with the production of beef cattle. The average CF in the entire beef cattle production system was 25.43 kg of CO2 kg-1 of live weight of marketed cattle, while in the individual subsystems of basic breeding herd, breeding heifers, breeding bulls and fattening bulls, the CF (after GHG allocation) was: 11.0 kg CO2 eq., 34.30 kg CO2 eq., 27.32 and 25.40 kg CO2 eq., respectively. GHG emissions associated with young calves staying in the cow-calf pairs until weaning (in the period from 0-6.5 months), had a decisive influence on the final CF in each of the subsystems of beef cattle production. The second important factor directly affecting the CF was GHG emissions related to methane (CH4) enteric fermentation and manure management. Knowledge of factors affecting the CF structure allows better identification of critical areas in production processes with high GHG emission potential. Information on the CF of beef cattle and beef meat responds to a wider societal demand for the ecological characteristics of market products, which ultimately contributes to improving their market competitiveness. |

Abstrakt | Social capital is one of the essential elements of an enterprise’s development. Enterprises with a high level of social capital, due to the smooth flow of information, are predisposed to achieve higher innovation, gaining an advantage over competitors (Przybysz, 2011). The social capital affects the creation of the unique value of an enterprise, mainly through the structures of the connections network, social and cultural norms as well as trust (Dziura, 2016). Nowadays, it is analysed at various levels and in varying degrees, also in relation to territorial systems, including the provincial level. The present paper is an attempt to analyse and describe the impact of social capital on development of selected enterprises in the Podkarpackie province. Authors of the article, due to the conducted surveys, application of statistical methods and analysis of financial reports, aim at presenting the effects of investing in social capital. |

Słowa kluczowe | wartość dodana, przemysł spożywczy, łańcuch marketingowy żywności, rachunek zysków i strat |
Key words | value added, food industry, food marketing chain, income statement |
Abstract | The notion of added value is not uniform. Several definitions can be found in the literature. Some of them are presented in this article, along with various methods of its calculation. The analysis of the added-value dynamics was analyzed, where it was found that the most studied branches of the food industry were under the category of "Production of meat products, including products from poultry meat". Next, the share of value added in the sales volume, the share of individual components in the added value itself was determined and the coefficients of variation of these components were calculated and interpreted. In addition, the efficiency in the production of added value per employee was examined, where not only the best performance, but also the fastest improving efficiency in the analyzed period was found in the industry category "Manufacture of grain mill products". |

Autor | Robert Nowacki |
Tytuł | USE OF ICT SERVICES AT FOOD PROCESSING ENTERPRISES AND THE INFORMATION SOCIETY DEVELOPMENT |
Title | |
Słowa kluczowe | food processing, ICT, ICT services, information society |
Key words | |
Abstrakt | The aim of the article is to analyse the scale of use and to assess the services related to modern information and communication technologies at food processing enterprises and to identify the dependencies between the obtained indices and the features characterising the entities surveyed. The grounds for considerations are findings of the surveys with 201 managers of enterprises of this sector, differentiated in terms of size. The analysis comprised the three areas of ICT services: telecommunications services, services related to software and consultancy in the IT area, and information-related services. The results indicate a wide scope of the use of ICT services – telecommunication services are used by all the entities surveyed, those related to software and consultancy – by three quarters, while information-related services – by almost 60%. In case of all entities there are noted growing outlays on their application, justified, on the one side, by the demand, and, on the other side, by high appraisals of their quality and up-to-datedness (more than 70% of indications) as well as their impact on competitiveness of the entities using them (percentages at the level of more than 60%). It must be said that there occur quite big differences in the indices obtained, due to the features of the enterprises in question. Most often statistically significant dependencies appear in case of information-related services – they are determined by the size of enterprises and the origin of their capital. In case of the services related to software and IT consultancy, the said dependencies also concern the enterprises’ size and, additionally, the range of their activities. Definitely most seldom the statistically significant dependencies occur in case of telecommunication services. |

Do interpretacji badań zastosowano statystykę opisową i parametryczną, wykorzystano wskaźniki struktury, gęstości i natężenia, a także wskaźnik korelacji Pearsona. W toku badań stwierdzono, że w 2015 roku 51,5% wytwarzanej w UE biomasy roślinnej w rolnictwie to produkty uboczne - pochodzące z resztek roślin uprawnych, z roślin pastewnych i biomasy wypasanej. Produkcja biomasy roślinnej cechowała się znacznym zróżnicowaniem przestrzennym zarówno w odniesieniu do biomasy pochodzącej z roślin uprawnych (liderami w tym zakresie były kraje: Francja, Niemcy, Hiszpania, Włochy i Polska), jak i do pozostałej biomasy (największy udział miały: Niemcy, Francja, Polska, Wielka Brytania i Włochy). W 2015 roku na terenie siedmiu krajów (tj. Niemiec, Francji, Polski, Wielkiej Brytanii, Hiszpanii, Włoch i Rumunii) wyprodukowano łącznie blisko ¾ roślinnej biomasy wytwarzanej w UE. |
Abstract | The aim of the article was to identify and assess the spatial diversity of agricultural biomass production of plant origin in EU countries as the basic raw material used to create bioproducts and bioenergy. The study uses statistical data obtained from EUROSTAT. The research period covered 2015. Descriptive and parametric statistics were used to interpret the study, and also the indicators of structure, density and intensity were used, as well as the Pearson correlation coefficient. The study found that in 2015 about 51,5% of plant biomass in agriculture produced in the EU were by-products - derived from crop residues, fodder crops and grazed biomass. The production of plant biomass was characterized by considerable spatial differentiation both in relation to biomass derived from arable crops (the leaders in this respect were: France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Poland) as well as to other biomass (Germany, France, Poland, Great Britain and Italy had the largest share). In 2015, nearly ¾ of the plant biomass produced in the EU was produced in seven countries (i.e. Germany, France, Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and Romania). The analysis also included the dependences among the size of biomass production, the population potential of the country (measured by the share in the EU population) and the production potential of agriculture (measured in the share of agricultural land in the EU). This allowed the designation of four groups of countries. |

Title | Competitiveness of the Economy of the Małopolska Region and the Development of the Startup Ecosystem |
Słowa kluczowe | konkurencyjność, innowacyjność, startup, ekosystem startupowy |
Key words | competitiveness, innovation, startup, startup ecosystem |
Abstract | In the 21st century, a region's competitive economy is an economy based on knowledge and new technologies. Startups with the startup ecosystem have become a determinant of a region's innovation. The article aims to show the dependence between the development of the Krakow startup environment and the increase in the competitiveness of the Malopolska region. The number of patents granted for national inventions by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, the dynamics of employment in R&D, capital expenditures on R&D, the number of enterprises with foreign capital and GDP per capita in current prices were considered the basic factors affecting the competitiveness of Malopolska. After the analysis of the correlation, it was shown that the strongest relationships occur between GDP per capita in current prices and the number of enterprises with foreign capital and investment outlays for R&D. The main city center, which is in the analyzed area of Krakow, has become a magnet for gathering people, creating startups, building an innovative economy and all business facilities. The Krakow startup ecosystem has a positive impact on the competitiveness of the Malopolska region due to the accumulation of highly qualified social capital, domestic and foreign investors, foundations and institutions supporting originators in materializing the idea, activities of institutions and public administration towards cooperation with the science and business area. |

Title | INSOLVENCY OF ENTERPRISES AND HOUSEHOLDS - COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS |
Słowa kluczowe | niewypłacalność, gospodarstwa domowe, przedsiębiorstwa |
Key words | insolvency households, enterprises |
Abstract | The aim of the research was to collect research on insolvency of enterprises and households based on national and international literature. It was found that households and enterprises combine vulnerability to the phenomenon of insolvency. Although they differ from each other in the sense of subjectivity, they function in the same environment. Households are very diverse, fragmented and there are many more than enterprises. In both cases, insolvency is determined by many variables, and is not just a function of income. In addition, insolvency is a gradual phenomenon, does not appear immediately and suddenly, therefore, the development of research and refinement of the methodology allows the prediction of this phenomenon and identification of signaling factors about the emerging danger. Among the insolvency determinants common for enterprises and households, the problem of timely payment of liabilities should be included. This is the result of other financial problems of these entities, especially the level and structure of debt, which is not always matched to the payment options of the entrepreneur or the average person. The problem of over-indebtedness and its poor structure currently seems to be a global problem, in particular for highly developed countries characterized by a high level of welfare of residents and entrepreneurs. |

Abstrakt | It is determined that in economic science there is no single approach to the interpretation of the concept of ‘innovation’. It is suggested that taking into account the radical changes that are in the world economy today it is necessary to use the extended concept of innovation, which should be understood as the results of the development transformation, research, ideas and their combination into a radically new or improved technological, economic, social solution, the results of which can be applied in practice. The main indicators that determine the level of innovation development of a country or region and provide an opportunity to determine the impact on economic development are covered. The place of Ukraine in such ratings according to indicators of innovative development in 2017, 2018 and problems that cause their low level are defined. The improvement directions of the innovative development level of the country are defined and the real steps taken by the government of the country to correct the negative trends through the introduction of digital transformation of the country’s economy, the transition from raw material to high-tech production and the basis of innovative IT technologies and communications are shown. |

Abstrakt | In recent decades considerable attention has been paid to alternative and renewable energy. Among the alternative sources, the sun’s energy is most appealing. Therefore, the development of solar energy, in the long run, is one of the top priorities. In practice, there are numerous barriers to the growth of the solar energy market. First of all, economic: fairly high prices for solar systems and payback period; the absence of working capital from manufacturing enterprises, the absence of specific mechanisms for stimulating production in the form of subsidies, tax exemptions, preferential tariff policies, etc. Therefore, research into the development of solar energy, as a real tool for a comprehensive solution to economic and environmental problems, is becoming increasingly relevant. The paper considers the energy policy of the use of renewable energy sources in rural areas. The theoretically feasible and technically achievable potential of solar energy in the territory of Ukraine was characterized. It was noted that the sun is the most affordable supplier of energy on earth today. The use of solar radiation is expedient for the development of thermal and electric energy and is possible throughout the territory of Ukraine. The dynamics of the commissioning of solar power plants by private households was analysed. The attention is focused on the application of the ‘green’ tariff, which stimulates the increase in the number of solar projects implemented in households. A financial model of private households of choosing a solar power plant option was proposed. The problems were identified and the possibilities of using solar energy for ensuring energy independence of households and profit generation were assessed. The forecast for the development of solar energy of the period up to 2020 was made. |
