Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present food situation and assess the range of food security in the European Union countries. The analysis was conducted both at national and at the household level. It was proved that nationally, in all EU countries minimum daily energy requirement was met with a surplus, but at the microeconomic level, difficulties in ensuring food security appeared in almost 9% of households in the EU-27 and even 20% of households in the EU-12. The prevalence of food insecurity varied depending on the size of the household.
