Abstract	The article presents the changes that took place in the European system of designations for the regional and traditional food products. The schemes were established in the early 90s of the twentieth century. Changes of the regulations were based on current needs, so no wonder that during their further development, some problems began to appear. The most important are: inefficient communication and promotion, lack of programs consistency, too high complexity of the system. In order to improve the European quality policy and to gain its potential profits, the European Commission carried out a series of consultations and prepared the agenda for the reform. The most important change is the introduction of the new Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on agricultural product quality schemes. The new legislation is expected to come into force next year.

Abstract	Tourism, also in reference to rural areas, makes up an important component of the policy implemented at any level of the administrative division of the country. For that reason this article aims at the specification of the criterion which would indicate the rank of the tourist functions in the rural areas. The article has assumed the hypothesis that the ratio between the selected expenses of the commune, understood as outlay, to the effects, understood as the tourist functions index of the place, may serve as such criterion (following Baretje and Defert). To verify the assumed hypothesis, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used. The analysis was carried out in 67 rural communes in kujawsko-pomorskie province. Following the carried out analysis, it was found that the technical effectiveness may be deemed as a criterion which determines the rank of the tourist functions in the area of a rural commune. For those rural communes which put a priority to the development of the tourist functions the relative performance ratio should amount to 1, while in the case of rural communes focused on multi-functional development, including the development of tourist services but not mainly, the analyzed ratio should exceed the average value obtained in the communes under the analysis

Abstract	The paper describes how important it becomes to create appropriate standards that are applicable to the operations of socially responsible companies and their stakeholders. Introduction of those standards becomes necessary for adequate presentation and verifi cation of reported data. Portions of interesting information can be acquired from separate social reports and it is often proposed by investors that elements of sustainable development should appear in fi nancial reports. Not all procedures however are formalized and unifi ed while range of presented data is vastly increasing making forms of corporate social responsibility more and more differentiated depending on assumed research paradigm. It is important however to take actions in order to unify presentation and interpretation methods of published data.

Abstract	The paper presents the identifi cation and interpretation of partial financial liquidity strategies according to the risk-return concept in the agricultural enterprises, depending on the rate of return on assets. The research embraces 100 enterprises. The study period was 2008. In the research the substantial dependence between the character of partial liquidity strategies according to risk-return concept and the rate of return of agricultural enterprises was determined. High financial results were accompanied by the high level of working capital, in particular the most liquid assets. The managers of the enterprises that generated losses revealed extremely aggressive approach to the strategy of liquidity.

Abstract	In this paper I investigate the relationship between working capital cycle and profi tability of industrial companies. I used sample of 43 companies listed in the Warsaw Stock Exchange for the period of 2004–2008. The empirical fi ndings show both positive (in the companies of metal industry) and negative (in the companies of automotive industry, building materials industry, light industry and pharmaceutical industry) relationships between cash conversion cycle and its components and companies’ profi tability. The relationships are result of working capital management strategies.

Abstract	Integration with the European Union was a source of signifi cant changes in the Polish insurance sector. The period 2002–2008 was characterized with the increase of foreign capital investments and the increase of competition from domestic and foreign insurers. One of the most important consequences of that process was the broadening of the range of products and changing of the structure of distribution channels. The goal of the analysis is the examination of the directions and scale of changes in the structure of insurance products and the structure of distribution channels in the years 2002–2008. The research based on data form KNF. PIU i CEA indicate that insurance companies starting to offer more life insurance as an investment vehicle for households’ savings and reducing the share of communication insurance and increasing fi nancial and property insurance. Insurers transformed the distribution structure and signifi cantly increased the sales through the banking network and reduced the sales through their own facilities and insurance agents and brokers. Such trend brings closer the distribution structure of the Polish insurance sector to the structure of insurance sectors in Austria, Belgium, France and Italy, it means countries with the bankoriented fi nancial systems.

Abstract	Agricultural activity requires involvement on the part of the government and also financial support from public institutions because it is burdened with a high level of risk and is subject to the influences of many unfavourable phenomena (e.g. natural, social or economic phenomena). The support of those activities which contribute to the development of agriculture and rural areas in Poland from the national funds is offered by the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARMA). The national programmes of the financial support of agriculture consist among others in subsidies offered by the Agency to the interest on bank. Preferential loans are the most frequently used by farmers a form of financing because their cost of servicing due to payment of ARMA is lower than operating commercial loans. This article aims to assess a preferential credits as a form of financing agricultural activities. Assessment was based on the volume of preferential agricultural credits given by banks with the subsidy of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture to the interest. In addition, the subject of analysis is the share of preferential loans in loans to agriculture and the structure of preferential loans by type of credit line. In the article, statistical data from the reports of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture was used, and the time scope of the analysis included the years of 2003–2010.
