Abstract	Foreign trade pays an important role in the development of both world and Polish economy. In the years 2002–2008 Poland reported negative balance of foreign trade of all kinds of products, while since 2003 the balance of trade with agricultural products was positive. In the structure of Polish export of agricultural products in the year 2008, fruits and vegetables paid a dominant role (ca. 20% of total export). In the years 2002–2008 the European Union was the net importer of all kinds of vegetables and vegetable products. Since the year 2004 when 10 New Member States accessed to the UE, the enlarged Community was the net importer of fresh tomatos, onions, peppers, courgettes, legumes and sweet corn. As the processed vegetables are concerned the EU net imported frozen vegetables, canned and dry tomatos. The positive trade balance was reported for canned vegetables and tomato puree. As the trade between Poland and other Member States is concerned, Poland reports positive balance of both fresh and processed vegetables. In the years 2002–2008 in Poland dominated positive and growing foreign trade balance with fresh vegetables and their products. It was possible thanks to positive foreign trade balance of processed vegetables, because the balance of trade with fresh vegetables was negative. Main exporting countries of Polish vegetables and their products were Holland, Germany and United Kingdom. Poland imported such products mostly from the UE, especially from Spain and Holland.

Abstract	The article attempts to present the basic information about the state and prospects of the effectiveness of enterprising actions in rural areas with regard to the unconventional, traditional and regional food, especially in Poland. It describes the past and future potential dangers resulting from the initial phase of creation of this niche food market.

Abstrakt	Praca przedstawia wybrane efekty zmian na rynku cukru w Polsce po integracji z UE. Produkcja cukru w Polsce od roku 2003/4 do 2009/10 zmniejszyła się o 15,3%, a limity produkcyjne o 7,5%. Integracja Polski z UE i wprowadzenie reformy rynku cukru wymusiło czterokrotne ograniczenie liczby pracujących zakładów. Mimo to odznaczają się one zbyt małą wydajnością przerobu w stosunku do fabryk we Francji i w Niemczech. Reforma rynku cukru spowodowała niewielkie obniżenie cen cukru, ale nie spowodowała potanienia słodyczy. Zniesienie przez UE ceł na importowany cukier po roku 2014/2015 spowoduje, że jego produkcja z buraków cukrowych w Polsce stanie się nieopłacalna.
Abstract	The work is focusing on selected effects of changes in sugar market in Poland after the integration with the EU. Sugar production in Poland between years 2003/4 and 2009/10 was reduced by about 15.3% and production limits by about 7.5%. Integration of Poland with the EU and implementation of the sugar market reform have forced a quadruple reduction in the number of working sugar plants. Yet they are still characterized by a too small processing capacity in relation to factories in France and in Germany. The reform of sugar market has caused small cuts in sugar prices, but it has not resulted in cheaper sweets. Abolishing the custom duties on imported sugar by the EU after year 2014/15 will cause the unprofitability of sugar production from sugar beet in Poland.

Abstrakt	Konsumpcja mięsa wołowego w Polsce w 2009 roku waha się na poziomie około 3,8 kg. Coraz mniejsze zainteresowanie konsumpcją mięsa tego rodzaju wynika zarówno z jego niskiej jakości oferowanej w handlu detalicznym, jak również z wyższych cen w stosunku do cen pozostałych produktów mięsnych, pochodzących z drobiu czy wieprzowiny. Istotnym czynnikiem warunkującym poziom spożycia mięsa wołowego są również przyzwyczajenia, łatwość przygotowania, dostępność, a także świadomość konsumentów o bardziej pozytywnym wpływie na ich zdrowie tzw. mięsa białego. Polska ma duże potencjalne warunki, aby być w Unii Europejskiej liczącym się producentem mięsa wołowego. Konieczna jest jednak poprawa jego jakości, która może przyczynić się do zwiększenia zainteresowania konsumentów mięsem tego rodzaju.
Abstract	Consumption of beef in Poland in 2009 ranges at around 3,8 kg/year. Less and less interest in this kind of meat consumption stems both from its low quality offered in the retail trade, as well as its higher prices when compared to the prices of other poultry or pork meat products. An important factor determining the level of beef consumption are also food habits, ease of preparation, its availability, as well as the consumer awareness of a more positive impact the white meat has on their health. Poland has great potential for becoming an important producer of beef in the European Union. However, it is necessary to improve its quality, which may contribute to an increased consumer interest in this kind of meat.

Abstrakt
Abstract	The article offers a territorial analysis of funds acquired by Polish agricultural holdings in the years 2004-2006 via direct payments and through participation in measures of the Rural Development Programme and the Sectoral Operational Programme ‘Restructuring and Modernisation of the Food Sector and Rural Development’. The analysis was based on the data on subsidies obtained in individual spatial units (voivodeship, poviat) as expressed by two indices: PLN per farm and PLN per hectare of agricultural land. It was found that owing to the structure of payments with a predominance of area payments, those areas were preferred that had a favourable farm-size structure and a high, historically developed level of farming. Such an allocation of the EU subsidies had contributed very little to the levelling out of structural differences in Polish farming.

Zaprezentowano także przykłady firm w Polsce wdrażających strategię CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) w zakresie środowiska naturalnego. Przeprowadzona analiza wskazuje, że działania firm w ramach ochrony środowiska istotnie wpływają na ich pozycję konkurencyjną oraz stają się integralnym oraz biznesowo umotywowanym elementem w ich strategiach działania i podejmowanych inicjatywach.
Abstract	The article presents the basic issues of Corporate Social Responsibility and business activities within the CSR as a part of strengthening firm’s competitive position. It also presents examples of companies in Poland implementing a CSR strategy in the area of environmental protection. The analysis shows that activities within the environmental protection significantly affect companies’ competitive position and become an integral component of business motivated strategies and initiatives.

Abstrakt	Badaniami objęto 41 spółdzielni mleczarskich w okresie czterech lat (2002-2005). Celem pracy jest określenie wpływu zatrudnienia na rentowność i bezpieczeństwo finansowe spółdzielni mleczarskich. Badania wykazały, że zatrudnienie miało pozytywny wpływ głównie na poziomy rentowności sprzedaży, majątku, kapitału własnego i zatrudnienia.
Abstract	A survey concerned 41 dairy cooperatives in four years (2002-2005). This paper identifies and examines an impact of employment on profitability and financial safety of dairy cooperatives. The survey showed that employment positively influenced mainly the levels of return on sales, assets, own capital and employment.

Abstract	The paper presents the legal issues related to the investment relief in agricultural tax. A particular attention was paid to the question of incentives for investments financed from public funds, including the EU budget. The doctrine, opinions of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and new rules for granting relief provided for in the amendment of the parliamentary act, which entered into force on 1 January 2009, were reviewed. Some proposals of amendments to the legal regulation of agricultural tax were put forward in conclusion.

Abstrakt	Celem pracy jest przedstawienie zmian napływu bezpośrednich inwestycji zagranicznych (BIZ) do Polski na tle napływu do krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej w latach 2005-2008 oraz napływu BIZ do polskiego sektora rolno-żywościowego w latach 1996-2008 w kontekście procesu integracji europejskiej. Proces integracji europejskiej jest ważnym czynnikiem decydującym o napływie BIZ do Polski, ale jest on również uzależniony od tendencji ogólnoświatowych. Najwięcej kapitału zagranicznego do sektora produkcji artykułów spożywczych, napojów i wyrobów tytoniowych napłynęło w latach: 1996 i 1998. W przypadku rolnictwa i rybołówstwa największy napływ BIZ odnotowano w 2008 r. (100 mln euro) oraz w 2004 r. (85,5 mln euro). Udział napływu do rolnictwa, rybołówstwa oraz produkcji artykułów spożywczych w ogólnej wartości napływającego kapitału jest niewielki. Napływ kapitału zagranicznego do rolnictwa i przetwórstwa spożywczego miał tendencję wzrostową już przed akcesją (odwrotnie niż napływ kapitału ogółem). W roku akcesji odnotowano wzrost wartości zainwestowanego kapitału zagranicznego ogółem oraz w analizowanych sektorach.
Abstract	The aim of the paper is to present changes in the foreign direct investments (FDI) inflow to Poland in comparison with that to the other countries of Middle and East Europe and the FDI inflow to the Polish agri-food sector in 1996-2008 in the context of European integration. The European integration is a significant factor for the FDI inflow to Poland, but it also depends on the world tendencies. The biggest foreign direct investment inflow to the food sector took place in 1996 and 1998. The highest value of foreign capital inflow to agriculture and fishing occured in 2008 (100 mio euro) and in 2004 (85,5 mio euro). The share of agriculture, fishing and food sector in the foreign capital inflow is low. The foreign capital inflow to agriculture and food sector had a growing trend already before the Polish accession (opposite to the total capital inflow). In the accession year there was an increase of foreign investments in total and in the analyzed sectors.

Abstrakt
Abstract	The paper presents an analysis of wheat yields variability in the voivodeships of Poland. The main aim of the study was to find out what are the statistical relationships between the wheat yield variability and the following factors: arable area, size of wheat production area, share of arable land used for wheat production, land quality and average yield. For that purpose a multiple linear regression was applied. It was found out that the detected spatial autocorrelation of wheat yields variability measured by standard deviations can be explained in 75% by the fitted model. Two of the considered variables showed a significant negative effect on this variability: the logarithm of arable area and the land quality, while the other two: the average wheat yield and the wheat production area displayed a significant positive effect on the variability. The effect of share of arable land used for wheat production itself was not significant.

Abstrakt	W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia znaczenia usług w rolnictwie polskim i niemieckim na tle rolnictwa w UE-27. Badanie przeprowadzono w oparciu o Rachunki Ekonomiczne dla Rolnictwa. Analizą objęto usługi rolnicze, weterynaryjne oraz pośrednictwa finansowego. Zidentyfikowano ich udział w zużyciu pośrednim, a także wartość poszczególnych grup usług w przeliczeniu na 1 ha UR oraz usługochłonność produkcji rolniczej w latach 1999-2009. Wykazano, że występuje zauważalna różnica pomiędzy znaczeniem tych usług w Polsce i w Niemczech.
Abstract	The aim of the paper was to assess the role of services in Polish and German agriculture in comparison with that in the other EU countries. The analysis was based on the Economic Accounts for Agriculture. The research covered agricultural services, veterinary expenses and financial intermediation services. Their share in intermediate consumption, value of the studied services per one hectare of agricultural land, as well as services absorbency of agricultural production in 1999-2009 were evaluated. It was proved that significant difference between the role of these services in Poland and Germany existed.

Abstrakt	Na światowych rynkach zbóż, w tym szczególnie w Unii Europejskiej, coraz większe znaczenie ma jakość ziarna oferowanego do sprzedaży. Wysoki plon dobrej jakości, można uzyskać poprzez umiejętne stosowanie środków ochrony roślin. Celem pracy było określenie wysokości kosztów ochrony i opłacalności zwalczania organizmów szkodliwych. ścisłe doświadczenia poletkowe prowadzono na pszenicy ozimej uprawianej w centralnej Polsce w latach 2004-2009. W badanym okresie najbardziej stabilne były koszty ochrony. Bardzo zróżnicowany był plon ziarna, zależny często od warunków pogodowych. Stwierdzono, że koszty miały wpływ na wielkość plonu, natomiast nie miały większego wpływu na wysokość cen ziarna zbóż. Powodowało to niestabilność zysków dla producentów
Abstract	An increasing importance of grain quality in the world cereal markets, especially in the European Union, is observed. An appropriate application of pesticides enables to obtain a high yield of good quality. The aim of the study was an estimation of plant protection costs and of the profitability of pests control. A field experiment was conducted in central part of Poland in 2004- 2009. The costs of plant protection in this period were stable. A close relation of costs and yields was stated. However, the costs of plant protection did not influence the grain prices. This resulted in unstable profits for producers.

Abstrakt	Opracowanie poświęcono cieszącemu się coraz większym zainteresowaniem zagadnieniu, jakim są tradycyjne i regionalne produkty żywnościowe. Opierając się o dostępną literaturę, artykuły z czasopism branżowych oraz informacje zawarte na stronach internetowych zdefiniowano i scharakteryzowano rynek żywności tradycyjnej i regionalnej. Dodatkowo przeprowadzono badania ankietowe, dzięki którym sprawdzono stopień znajomości i rozpoznawalności takich produktów wśród polskich konsumentów oraz ich stosunek do tego typu żywności
Abstract	The paper treats about traditional and regional food products which are subject of an increasing interest. It is based on secondary sources and personal research. Taking advantage of the available literature, articles in trade magazines and information in governmental websites, it defines and characterizes market of traditional and regional food products, consumer behavior and it describes national and international distinctive product systems and promotional programs. In addition, surveys were conducted which examined the degree of perception of these products among consumers. The results serve to illustrate the position that these products have in the food market in comparison to conventional products.

Abstrakt	Celem pracy jest analiza uwarunkowań środowiskowych rozwoju rolnictwa ekologicznego w Polsce w aspekcie wsparcia tego systemu gospodarowania w ramach programu rolnośrodowiskowego. W analizach wykorzystano dane GUS, dane GIJHARS oraz dane ARiMR. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika, że rozwój rolnictwa ekologicznego jest przede wszystkim uzależniony od istniejących systemów wsparcia finansowego. Istnieje zatem potrzeba zróżnicowania systemów wsparcia finansowego w zależności od celu, który chcemy osiągnąć, w szczególności takich, jak ochrona walorów środowiskowych lub produkcja żywności ekologicznej.
Abstract	The aim of this article is to analyze the environmental conditions of organic farming in Poland with respect to its financial support in the agri-environmental programme. A comparative analysis was conducted using the statistical data from the State Statistical Office and GIJHARS as well as those from the Agency for Agriculture Restructuring and Modernisation. The analyses showed that the organic farming development depended on financial support. It is necessary to diversify the financial support system because of the aim which we want to achieve, in particular the environmental protection or the organic food production.

Abstrakt	Przeprowadzono analizę wybranych zagadnień importu i eksportu roślin ozdobnych na obszarze Unii Europejskiej w 2003 i 2006 roku. Pojęcie importu i eksportu roślin ozdobnych na obszarze Unii Europejskiej obejmuje wewnętrzny import pomiędzy 15 krajami (2003) i 25 krajami (2006) będącymi członkami tej struktury. Badaniami objęto import i eksport roślin ozdobnych, zgodnie z ujęciem statystycznym przyjmując siedem grup produktów kwiaciarskich. Są to rośliny doniczkowe, kwiaty cięte świeże, kwiaty cięte preparowane, rośliny szkółkarskie, cebule i bulwy kwiatowe, zieleń cięta świeża i preparowana oraz sadzonki. Analizowano poziom i dynamikę zmian importu i eksportu roślin ozdobnych na obszarze Unii Europejskiej w ujęciu wartościowym oraz strukturę geograficzną wewnętrznego handlu na obszarze Wspólnoty.
Abstract	This work presents an analysis of selected issues in the European Union’s internal trade in 2003 and 2006. The analyses concern imports and exports of ornamental plants and distinguish, according to the statistical classification, seven group of ornamental horticultural products. These are pot plants, cut flower fresh, treated cut flowers, ornamental nursery seedlings, flower bulbs, corms and tubers dormant, foliage fresh or treated, cuttings and young plants. The analyses show that the Union’s ornamental plants external trade is dominated by old members of the European Union. New members’ accession did not bring significant changes in the turnover of ornamental products. Most of the ornamental plants exported from the EU member states are directed to its old members. The main recipient in the Union’s market is Germany. This country received over 1/3 of the Union’s export of ornamental horticultural products counted by value. Only 3.17% of the Union’s exports of these products counted by value was directed to the biggest receivers of ornamental products among new members, i.e. Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary. The main ornamental plants providers in the European Union are also old members, especially the Netherlands and Italy. Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary supplied in 2006 to the Union’s market only 1.22% of ornamental plants counted by value.

Abstrakt	Niższy poziom wsparcia w Polsce i innych krajach UE spowodował spadek pogłowia owiec. Niższe dochody z produkcji owczarskiej wpływały na rezygnację rolników z chowu owiec. W związku z tym produkcja owczarska w wielu krajach UE wymagała dodatkowego wsparcia krajowego. Z mniejszym pogłowiem owiec związana była niższa produkcją mięsa jagnięcego i wyższe jego ceny. W Polsce poziom wsparcia producentów owiec również obniżył się. Zmniejszyło się pogłowie i produkcja mięsa, a ceny utrzymywały się na podobnym poziomie od kilku lat. Produkcja owczarska wymaga więc większego wsparcia, gdyż zmiana sposobu dotowania przyczyniła się do spadku dochodów rolników i pogorszeniu się sytuacji całego sektora owczarskiego
Abstract	The influence of the changes in subsidizing principles on the sheep breeding in Poland and in the EU countries is presented. The lower level of support in Poland and in the other EU countries is influencing a reduction of sheep population. Growing costs of the means of production and a lack of financial liquidity have contributed to the liquidation of many flocks of sheep. The lamb meat production has been decreasing. Its imports and exports have stagnated. Production trends have been identical in Poland and in the EU countries. Ovine production requires subsidies from the state budget or other forms of support

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono ideę i istotę rolniczych spółdzielni produkcyjnych (RSP) oraz dokonano charakterystyki tych podmiotów ze względu na przedmiot działalności, stan ilościowy i przestrzenne rozmieszczenie w Polsce. Dokonano również przeglądu modeli spółdzielczości rolniczej w wybranych krajach Unii Europejskiej oraz wskazano możliwości ich adaptacji do polskich warunków. W opracowaniu opisano również szanse rozwoju działalności rolniczych spółdzielni produkcyjnych wynikające z przynależności do grup producentów rolnych.
Abstract	The article presents the idea and and the profile of agricultural productive cooperatives with regard to the object of their activity, their numbers and their spatial distribution in Poland. The article mentions also the organizational models of cooperativism in some EU countries and shows the possibility of their adaptation into Polish conditions. Besides, the article describes chances of agricultural productive cooperatives’ development, which are the result of the membership in an agricultural producer groups
