| Abstract | Investment Risk Versus Rate of Return on Indexes on Warsaw Stock Exchange Index WIG20 includes shares of twenty largest and most liquid companies listed on WSE, the next forty are grouped in mWIG40 index, and another eighty – in the sWIG80 index. It is generally agreed that the index WIG20 allows to realize lower rates of return with a lower risk level than indexes mWIG40 and sWIG80. Directly proportional relationship between the rate of return and the investment risk comes from the CAPM model. The purpose of this research is to verify this view by analyzing rates of return and their volatility on indexes WIG20, mWIG40 and sWIG80 in the period 16.05.2005–7.04.2011. The results show reversed relationship between the rates of return and volatility on the indexes. Throughout the whole period the index WIG20 had the lowest rate of return, at the highest level of volatility, and the index sWIG80 – the highest rates of return with lowest risk level. The relationship changed with the capital market conditions. WIG20 index has achieved the best rate of return only during a fall in the value of indexes, but at the highest level of investment risk. |

| Abstract | Dramatic increase in the use of derivatives instruments as the tools commodity price risk management has been observed over the course of recent years. New types of instruments are designed that can better match risk profiles of the commodity market participants. One of the newly introduced instruments is commodity swap, offered for the first time in the mid 1980’s. Particularly large increase in the volume and value of these transactions has been recorded during the first decade of the XXI-st century. The basic commodity swap is a transaction between two parties which calls for the single or multiple exchange of cash flows where the value of these cash flows is dependent on the price of commodity (or basket of commodities) underlying the contract. Entering into commodity swap as a risk management tool allows fixing the price of the underlying commodity over long term time horizon. Commodity swap are used most extensively as a risk management instrument for energy commodities and for commodities with no active commodity futures markets that are considered prime alternative to swaps. In the last few years energy companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange began to use commodity swaps, primarily for the purpose of fixing purchase price of oil and gas – major cost components for these companies. |

| Abstract | The article is aimed at giving the assessment of marketing actions carried out in the marketing environment on the market of foodstuff. The comparative and descriptive methods, as well as the method of descriptive statistics have been used in the paper. The research period covers the years 2004–2010. In the article the essence of the product in e-marketing has been presented, paying particular attention to the needs which are being met by consumers in digital economy – the necessity to study megaproducts covering the whole range of consumers’ needs. Further various strategies pursued by business in the Internet relating to a product, including the influence of different products on human senses have been presented. The article describes the development of services provided by the Internet in the countries of the European Union and the percentage of online buyers by gender groups. It has been noted that foodstuff sold as food products is only 1.3% share of sales and paid attention to the survey comparing the time spent by consumers to buy food through the Internet. |

| Abstract | The elaboration presents forecast for financial risk of selected agribusiness firms in the świętokrzyskie Province. Two models were used to predict corporate bankruptcy: a model M. Hamrol, B. Czajka and M. Piechocki, and A. Hołda model. The data based on financial statements placed in the Polish B Monitor of selected companies of the agribusiness calculated rates which served the post of discriminatory chosen models for calculating the value stayed. Enterprises were provided with examinations: Bakery at the Telegraph Roman Smolarski in Kielce, Plant Fruit and Vegetable Industry Dwikozy S.A. in Dwikozy, AGROMA Kielce Ltd. z o.o. in Kielce, Department of Fruit Processing Ltd. SAMBOR in Samborcu, Plant Grain-Milling ROC S.A. in Kielce, Kielce Brewery Co. Ltd. in Kielce, EKOPLON S.A. in Grabkach Large, Horticultural Wholesale Market in Sandomierz S.A. in Sandomierz, Department of Poultry-Cold store imports and exports in Jędrzejów Stanisław Bik. The study covered years 2005– –2010, while in the case of a brewery in Kielce from 2004 to 2009 in Kielce. This enterprise was liquidated by the management board of the Brewing Company in September 2009. In the examination they used the comparative analysis which was exploited for verifying two models for the early stage of warning before the bankruptcy. |

| Abstract | The aim of this study is to determine the scale and structure of the investment activity of Middle Pomerania agricultural enterprises. The analysis was based on the value of investment and gross fixed assets in enterprises employing more than 9 people. The study covered data published by the CSO (GUS). The analyzed companies represent the agricultural sector in the region of Middle Pomerania (the area of Zachodniopomorskie and Pomorskie Voivodships). The period of study covers the years 2002–2010. The study shows that the value of investments in Poland from 2002 to 2008, has grown steadily. From the moment of crisis in global markets investment dynamics decreased. In agricultural enterprises, contrary to others, there was an increase in investment outlays in 2010, compared to the previous period. The agricultural sector was characterized by the lowest share of investments. The participation of agricultural enterprises in the region of Middle Pomerania in investment spending of the surveyed companies was higher than the share of agricultural enterprises in Poland, reflecting the agricultural character of this area. |

Fundamental changes in the cooperative arrangements aimed at Western Europe – the merger of two banks associations and the ability to issue bonds by the cooperative banks, while viability of the sector and its high potential point to the significant development opportunities, further strengthening the capital and the ability to make better use of economies of scale, allowing both reduce operating costs, as well as improve the effectiveness of cooperative banks and allow the dynamic development of new technologies. |

| Abstract | Tax incidence is a rational reaction of taxpayers to taxation. The taxpayer will attempt to shift the tax burden to other market entities. In order to analyze the degree of such shift, it is necessary to be able to measure it. This publication presents the tax incidence measure as the sum of two components: the percentage of taxation shift from the taxpayer to the recipient and the percentage of taxation shift from the taxpayer to the supplier. This index appears to be a good tool. Its advantages include an ability to measure tax incidence impacts in varying directions, the possibility to combine forward and backward incidence to show incidence against base price levels – that is the differentiation between partial, full and over incidence. The index which specifies the degree of tax incidence means it becomes an operational value, that is, it becomes measurable. We will be able to predict the effects of taxation more easily, measuring the degree of taxpayers’ reaction to taxation. |

| Abstract | An analysis of price changes at particular levels of main agri-food markets, namely cereal market, dairy market and meat market, implies that price shifts that occurred over the period of 2004–2011 were favourable for agriculture. Polish accession to the EU triggered increase in retail food prices. Despite considerable short-term fluctuation there were no substantial changes in the share of producers, processors and traders in retail prices of food. Price mechanism assured efficient price transmission between particular stages of food markets which after price shocks recovered to previous proportions of particular margins resulting from long-term equilibrium. |

| Abstract | The paper includes an attempt to present the most important competences of managers. It provides an answer for a question: who is an efficient manager? It has been more and more difficult to cope with speed of life and face increasing requirements of changing environment. It concerns especially expectations towards managers. This situation raises a question, which competences of a manager will get particular importance in the nearest future. The main aim is to present intellectual entrepreneurship as a competence of an essential role in manager’s work in the market economy. There were used sources from the literature as well as own reflections. Analyzed competences do not exhaust a topic although according to the author – they are the most important ones in manager’s work. Of course, they can be not whole necessary in different workplaces, however they can be considered as a starting point for evaluation of a potential and state of art within manager’s knowledge, skills and attitude. There were presented the most important competences of managers, which prove that managerial work is responsible and has many aspects. It was noticed that intellectual entrepreneurship is a competence of a significant role in the market economy. It was stressed that manager’s knowledge and skills are a part of important, strategic resources of particular company, which gives an advantage over other entities. The paper ends with conclusions. |

| Abstract | The aim of the article is an attempt to look at the cultivation contract as an instrument of organisation of the agricultural market in the limited production system. The contract is considered with the example of one of the most ‘regulated’ agricultural markets, i.e. the sugar market. It is especially important to answer the question how much the current regulation of cultivation contracts enables the market to function effectively, in accordance with the assumptions of the Common Agricultural Policy. The article comprises both the issues concerning the changes taking place in the signing of cultivation contracts in different conditions of political systems and the role of the contract designated by the Community legislature after Poland’s accession to the European Union. The considerations end with an attempt to answer the question which direction the regulation of law concerning cultivation contracts should go from the point of view of a sugar beet grower and sugar manufacturer. |

| Abstrakt | Celem tych badań było dokonanie oceny przyjętych celów Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej (WPR) w odniesieniu do rolnictwa. Kryteriami jej oceny są podział wartości dodanej netto oraz okres zwrotu aktywów w badanych latach i klasach gospodarstw wg ESU. Z badań wynika, że ekonomia podażowa w sprzężeniu zwrotnym z konkurencją doskonałą pozwoliły osiągnąć cele konsumentów żywności. Podział wartości dodanej netto między gospodarstwa trudno nazwać sprawiedliwym mimo, że środki finansowe na rozwój rolnictwa mają charakter społeczny. Partycypacja w podziale wartości dodanej netto była tym wyższa im większym potencjałem produkcyjnym (aktywa) dysponowało gospodarstwo. Taki podział z ekonomicznego i społecznego punktu widzenia trudno uznać za właściwy ponieważ okres zwrotu aktywów w gospodarstwach o wielkości >100 ESU był dłuższy niż w gospodarstwach o wielkości od 16 do 100 ESU. Ten niekorzystny trend był szczególnie widoczny w latach 2008-2010 czyli w okresie kryzysu gospodarczego. Kondycja ekonomiczna tych dużych gospodarstw podobnie jak przedsiębiorstw determinowana jest przez wahania rynku kapitałowego, co nie służy stabilizacji bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego. |
| Abstract | The purpose of the research was to assess the agreed objectives of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for agriculture. The criteria for the assessment are the distribution of net value added and the payback period of assets in the analysed period and the classes of agricultural holdings by ESU. The research shows that supply economics in feedback with perfect competition allowed food consumers to reach their objectives. Although financial support for agriculture development has a social character, the distribution of net value added among agricultural holdings hardly seems fair. The higher the production potential (assets) of an agricultural holding, the greater participation in the distribution of net value added was. Such division is hardly fair from both an economic and social point of view, since the payback period of assets in the agricultural holdings of the economic size >100 ESU was longer than the payback period in the agricultural holdings of the economic size from 16 to 100 ESU. This unfavorable trend was particularly evident in the years 2008-2010, during economic crisis. The economic position of these large agricultural holdings as well as enterprises is determined by fluctuations in the capital market, which does not support the stabilization of food security. |

| Abstract | Direct selling of agricultural products means selling of products directly to consumers away from a fixed retail location without using any other organization or company. The success of direct selling is determined by the factors such as distance of the company from the homes of customers, important is also transportation network, readiness of the company for this type of selling as well as following the given rules and legislation together with respecting market potential and marketing approach of the company. Extending the activities of the company in this direction is strongly connected with utilization of marketing tools within marketing conception. Success of this activity is influenced by recognition of motivation as well as other conditions for direct selling of agricultural products from original producer. Paper points at importance of direct selling of agricultural products based on own questionnaire research. To get as close as possible to final consumers with fresh products and selling these products directly to consumers away from a fixed retail location are the most important points. Producers are constantly looking for adequate distribution channels for their produce which would satisfied requirements of customers and obtain a reasonable effect for producers as well. Direct selling of agricultural products is a form of sales, which does not appear so frequently in the practice because of urgent need for industrial treatment of most agricultural products. Despite this fact, direct selling of agricultural products has its own unique economic, commercial and non-productive substantiation. For direct selling is the most important to use the tools of product policy . The direct selling of agricultural products is concentrated mainly on traditional agricultural products or their processed food products - dominant is quality of sold product. Quality of the product influences directly image of the product as well as the groups of customers of direct selling. Direct selling from the farms in the Slovak Republic contributes to the total revenues for the agricultural production capacity from 6% to 7%. Direct selling is more intensive in the companies selling fruit and vegetables, where the volume of direct sales reaches 10% to 15% share of sales. Although direct selling is the just additional distribution way, it is appropriate to choose a strategy that respects the manufacturing offer of the company and the economy of the sales. Within direct selling of agricultural products, there is also a need to use the tools of communication policy, such as advertising, sales promotion and public relations to get closer to the target customer. |

| Abstract | Each company that wants to be successful on the market has to understand the basic principles of effective communication with the market and also should focus on creating an appropriate and balanced communication mix. When communicating with customers, the most important is the basic information about the product and its advantages. Therefore, each company has to strive to communicate clearly, consistently and convincingly. Important is that the various marketing communication tools were collected and combined with respect to the target market segment. The aim of this paper is to assess the current state of marketing communication and trends in the use of communication mix tools with a focus on advertising. The paper deals with both the analysis and assessment of the general impact of advertising on consumer behavior and focuses on "Danone" company and evaluation its advertising policy to customers. Understanding the basic principles of effective communication with the market and also should focus on creating an appropriate and balanced communication mix. When communicating with customers, the most important is the basic information about the product and its advantages. The basis of good corporate communication mix creates the elements such as advertising, public relations, personal selling, sales promotion, direct marketing and event marketing. These are the tools by which the company Danone seeks to achieve its advertising and marketing objectives. In 2011 Danone came with a new campaign: "Oh la la Danette!“ pointing at French recipe and delicious taste of this product. Another really successful products of Danone company is Actimel and Activia. Survey proved, that the ads of Danone company influence more women than men and there is also a strong dependence between age of respondents and trust to the brand. 15 – days test and the decision of respondents about accession to the test of Activia product is largely affected by the economic situation of the consumer. Most of the respondents truly believe the information about positive health impact of Activia product on human body as it is seen in ads on TV. |

| Abstract | Growing of oil crops has spread considerably in the last years. The most important oil crop grown in our conditions is oilseed rape. In this paper we evaluate the growing of oilseed rape from the production and economic point of view. We focused on the years 2004 – 2010. Obtained results show that the economic advantage of oilseed rape growing is affected mainly by the climatic conditions as well as by the intensification of production and support policy. The year 2008 was economically most advantageous of evaluated years. The highest loss within the growing of oilseed rape was recorded in 2009. Higher hectare yield of oilseed rape can be achieved by the intensification of production. |

| Abstrakt | Na mocy Traktatu Rzymskiego ustanowiona została Wspólna Polityka Rolna (WPR). W Traktacie określone zostały jej cele i zasady. W trakcie tworzenia WPR dokonano jej podziału na: politykę rynkową i strukturalną. Źródłami finansowania tej polityki były fundusze: EFOGR, EFS i EFRR. W wyniku konsekwentnie prowadzonej WPR poprawie uległa w EWG struktura agrarna, zmalało zatrudnienie w rolnictwie, wzrosła produkcja rolna i jej intensywność, zapewniona została także samowystarczalność EWG w zakresie większości artykułów żywnościowych. Wraz jednak ze wzrostem produkcji rolnej powiększały się w magazynach zapasy, których eksport warunkowany był wydatkowaniem z budżetu EWG coraz większych kwot na subsydia. W konsekwencji w szybkim tempie zaczęły wzrastać wydatki z budżetu na finansowanie tej polityki. Niezbędna stała się reforma WPR, którą wdrożono w 1986 roku. Wprowadzone modyfikacje WPR nie przyniosły jednak spodziewanych rezultatów. Od tego czasu polityka ta była jeszcze kilkakrotnie reformowana. |
| Abstract | The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been enacted by the Treaty of Rome, which defined its objectives and principles. During its drafting process the CAP was divided into market policy and structural policy. The sources of funding of the CAP were three Funds: European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF), European Social Fund (ESF) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). As a result of consistent implementation of the CAP, the agrarian structure markedly improved, the volume of agricultural output substantially increased, allowing the EEC to attain self-sufficiency in most agricultural products, while improving the intensity of farming and reducing the employment in agriculture. However, the growing volume of the agricultural output resulted in mounting surplus of certain agricultural products, whose export depended on ever-increasing subsidies from the EEC budget. Consequently, the expenditures for financing the CAP from the budget started to increase rapidly. This necessitated the reform of the CAP, which was implemented in 1986. Since then, this policy has undergone a few reforms. |

| Abstract | The economic and financial crisis that takes place since 2008 is a subject of many scientific analysis and popular science studies. In 1980 – 2008 economic liberalism was considered to be the main stream in the general economic thought. Nowadays the more popular one is that which allows and enlarges quite significant state intervention. Changes that come as consequences of such turn are supposed to significantly shape the agricultural land concentration processes. There are three main phenomena that occurred in the economic life after the year 2008, that can have a significant influence on shaping those processes: concentration of production factors, limiting the role of financial markets and developing organizational structures of the operators and growing state interference in market mechanisms. |

| Abstract | The article points at food quality of European products in some points, how could be the each European companies successful in the global competitive situation not only with history or culture but be safety in the area of product quality such as important factor of consumer behavior and. Food quality is an important food manufacturing requirement, because food consumers are susceptible to any form of contamination that may occur during the manufacturing process. Many consumers also rely on manufacturing and processing standards, particularly to know what ingredients are present, due to dietary, nutritional requirements (kosher, halal, vegetarian), or medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, or allergies) and because of the article shows some of new trends at food market in Europe. The provision of safe food which protects customers’ integrity and provides consumers with the desired taste is expected to remain the major priority in world food markets in the foreseeable future. While reducing microbial contamination, chemical contaminants and pesticide residues will gain in importance, ethical products and functional foods are the emerging priorities. Food businesses will need to give much greater attention towards minimising water use and pollution, more sustainable production systems, worker welfare and waste management. Recyclable packaging, conservation and biodiversity, food miles and reducing salinity and land degradation are the emerging environmental issues. Country-of-origin is perceived to be the most important indicator of food quality both now and in the foreseeable future. Identifying which food preservatives, food colourings and flavour enhancing compounds have been used in the food will continue to grow in importance as consumers move towards more natural, unadulterated food products. Identifying the presence of potential allergens is critically important for the growing number of susceptible consumers. The food energy content and the use of sugar and artificial sweeteners are the emerging issues, with the presence of genetically modified organisms and ecolabelling poised to become more prominent in the long-term. |

| Abstrakt | W artykule ukazano sytuację kobiet, w tym na obszarach wiejskich na krajowym oraz europejskim rynku pracy w zakresie aktywności ekonomicznej, bezrobocia, zróżnicowania dochodów. Przedstawiono przyczyny niższej aktywności zawodowej i zatrudnienia kobiet. Na wstępie zdefiniowano podstawowe pojęcia ułatwiające rozumienie polityki równości szans i tematyki gender. Scharakteryzowano kierunki zmian w sytuacji kobiet i mężczyzn na rynku pracy i w życiu społecznym oraz omówiono przejawy dyskryminacji. Przedstawione wyniki badań pokazują słabszą pozycję kobiet. Zarówno w mieście jak na wsi kobiety są lepiej formalnie wykształcone, mimo tego niższa jest ich aktywność zawodowa, wyższa stopa bezrobocia oraz otrzymują niższe wynagrodzenie za tę samą pracę. Występuje duże zróżnicowanie pod tym względem między miastem i wsią. Także w krajach Unii Europejskiej występują znaczne różnice, np. między krajami skandynawskimi a krajami śródziemnomorskimi oraz państwami Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. |
| Abstract | The paper shows situation of women in this at rural areas at the home and European labor market in terms of the economic activity, unemployment, income gap. The determinates of lower woman economic activity and employability were described. At the beginning definitions were quoted for the purpose of better understanding equal chances polices and gender topics. The directions of changes in situation of woman and man were characterized at the labor market and social life as well discrimination effects. Results presented from research show weaker position of woman. Woman living in towns as well at rural areas are better formally educated even so their employability as well unemployment rate is higher and obtaining lower salaries for this some work man do. There are a big differences on this matter between urban and rural areas. Also in the European Union there are large differences, for example, between the Nordic and the Mediterranean countries and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. |
