| Abstrakt | Typ rolniczy stanowi jedno z kryteriów używanych dla charakteryzowania gospodarstwa rolnego w UE. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest próba ukazania zakresu efektywności wykorzystania zasobów produkcyjnych w różnych typach gospodarstw. Do oceny efektywności gospodarowania w poszczególnych typach gospodarstw posłużono się produktywnością i dochodowością ziemi, pracy i kapitału. Poszczególne wielkości ukazano w przeliczeniu na jedno gospodarstwo w zł. Skalę zróżnicowania przedstawiono w ujęciu procentowym. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, iż intensywna produkcja prowadzona w gospodarstwach drobiarskich i ogrodniczych sprawiała, że to właśnie one osiągnęły w 2016 roku najwyższą produktywność i dochodowość ziemi i kapitału. |
| Abstract | The agricultural type is one of the criteria used to characterize a farm in the EU. The purpose of this study is to show the range of the effectiveness of the use of production resources in various types of farms. The productivity and profitability of land, labor and capital were used to assess the effectiveness of management in particular types of farms. Individual sizes are shown per one household in PLN. The scale of diversification is presented in percentage terms. The analysis carried out showed that intensive production carried out on poultry and horticultural farms made them the most productive and profitable land and capital in 2016. |

| Abstrakt | The article examines the state and prospects of organic production by agricultural enterprises in the Ukraine. Existing natural, climatic and soil potential for the production of organic agricultural products as well as their export and consumption in the domestic market are characterized. It was noted that the development of organic production is one of the main priorities of the agrarian sector of the Ukrainian economy. State support for the development of this type of production is being implemented, as reflected in ‘3 + 5’ as a strategy for the development of the agrarian sector of the economy for the period until 2020. Attention is drawn to the instability of the environment, insufficient development of demand and limitations of financial resources, which hinder the realization of Ukraine’s potential in this segment of the agrarian sector. The conclusion on the necessity of applying marketing strategies for promoting and marketing organic products on domestic and foreign markets is drawn. The model of forming a marketing strategy of organic production development in the Ukraine is offered. |

| Abstrakt | The article substantiates that entrepreneurship is the basis of the country’s economy, a prerequisite for the revival of rural areas. It represents environmental factors that impede the formation of a competitive business environment in the Ukraine, and, accordingly, the achievement of indicators of efficiency of entrepreneurial activity. The essence of competence of the entrepreneur and its components is also considered. Different points of view of scientists are generalized and a list of competencies, which should be owned and developed by an entrepreneur in the course of his/her activity in order to harmoniously grow as a socially responsible person is also presented in the paper. The expediency of forming entrepreneurial competence in the process of vocational training of young people to life in society, their future activity in new market conditions, as well as the logical sequence of using the skills and abilities of an entrepreneur through the implementation of key competencies is substantiated. The methodical aspects of assessing the level of competence of the entrepreneur are provided. The results of this will allow to develop directions and measures for improving the process of forming the entrepreneurial competence of employees, increasing the quality of the work force, and providing competitive advantages through the use of human resources in the agricultural sector of the economy. |

This study presents the analysis of the evolution of the agritourism infrastructure and of the main tourism indicators for Romania as agritourism travel destination, emphasizing the importance of this sector in the development of the tourism industry. Quantitative and comparative analyses were carried out regarding the total number and the existing accommodation capacity for tourist boarding houses and agritourist boarding houses and the numerical evolution for domestic arrivals and international arrivals throughout the period between 2006 and 2016. In conclusion, Romania is an important agritourism destination, well known at national and international level for its natural and anthropic resources in rural areas. |

| Abstrakt | In the late 1980s, inland aquaculture in Poland produced about 20 and 4 thousand tonnes of carp and trout, respectively. In 2016, the total volume of the sector’s production increased to over 35 thousand tonnes, including 18 and 16 thousand tonnes of the two species and above 1 thousand tonnes of another fish. This constitutes 94% of total catches of inland fish and about 15% including sea fishing. Globally, roughly 50% of seafood supply is produced by aquaculture, and farmed fish production exceeds that of farmed beef. The EU’s Blue Growth Strategy identifies aquaculture as a sector which could boost economic growth across Europe. The key challenges in the Polish aquaculture sector is significant production growth to 49 thousand tonnes by 2020 and increasing its competitiveness by using resources more effectively, supporting the market by building distribution chains, improving the quality of products and marketing, as well as increasing contribution to environmental protection. |

| Abstrakt | The impact assessment of the Common Agricultural Policy on transformation process of Polish agriculture following Poland’s accession to European Union has been carried out. The analysis took into account the changes of the Common Agricultural Policy in terms of goals and the directions of its evolution. In the paper the alterations in land, labour and capital resources of Polish agriculture were also analysed. It has been established that funds coming from the Community budget allowed Polish agriculture to adjust to the requirement of new environment. Integration into the European Union has created good conditions to dynamic development of the agri-food sector as a whole. Acceleration of the modernization and restructuring processes of Polish farms has taken place. These developments have resulted in a reduction in the total number of farms (by 52%) at the simultaneous rise in their average area (by 78%). Union financial measures have also influenced on generational renewal amongst farms managers. The funds considerably enhanced farmers’ incomes, which increased by 156%, thus promoting expenditure on investments. As a result the improvement of technical utilities of farms has been achieved. Consequently, labour productivity growth in Polish agriculture has also been recorded. A wide range of measures within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy enables to overcome many obstacles of the rural areas in Poland. It also creates possibilities to take advantage of naturally occurring assets in order to effectively compete on the external market. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of the paper was to identify positive as well as negative local development factors in the opinion of the authorities (mayors) of rural and semi-urban (urban-rural) municipalities in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship, Poland. The research was based on a survey within local authorities of the Warmia and Mazury region and was carried out in 2017. The results show that the local authorities have been aware of numerous opportunities and barriers of local economic development. Sometimes, if there is one barrier, it causes the formation of new ones, for example the shortage of own financial resources or municipal debt make it impossible to finance investments from the local budget or to apply for EU funds, which require co-financing from the beneficiary’s own resources. Most of mayors make efforts to mitigate exogenous conditions by local activeness, such as co-operation with neighbouring or foreign municipalities or offering preferential tax rates to investors. Municipal authorities perceive the opportunity in applying for EU funds for projects aimed at improving the quality of life of local communities, including the development of technical and social infrastructure. |

| Abstrakt | The objective of the work is the assessment of the phenomenon of convergence of agriculture in the provinces/ voivodeship (NUTS 2) in Poland in the years 2003–2014 in relation to the use of European funds designated for development of agriculture and rural areas. The study specified dimensions of support under the European Funds granted for agriculture and rural areas in individual regions, which were compared to the size of gross added value of agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishery. Within the analysis, data of the Agency for the Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture as well as The Local Data Bank of Central Statistical Office were used. Data regarding productivity of agriculture and other rural sectors in the regions as well as data on the used resources from the European funds were availed of in the assessment of the correlation between these expectations and the phenomena of sigma-convergence and beta-convergence in the regional system. The conducted analysis confirmed the occurrence of a phenomenon of convergence in the tested scope. |

| Abstrakt | The article specifies that intensive development of the economy can be achieved by attracting and effectively using investment resources. Based on the indicator of the level of investment sufficiency, it was established that, in the period under review, the level of investment adequacy in the country is less than the established ‘threshold’ value, which indicates a shortage of investment funds. The study analysed the dynamics of investment attraction in agriculture. It was found that the main source of financing for investment is own funds of enterprises and organizations. However, they are too insufficient to ensure the intensive development of the economy. An analysis of growth dynamics of the total volume of investment in agricultural enterprises per 100 ha of agricultural land and their financial provision was carried out. Research showed that the increase in the value of fixed assets is more intensive than the increase in the inflow of investment in fixed assets, which indicates additional sources of growth in the value of fixed assets. It was noted that the potential sources of investment resources should be the funds of foreign investors, which currently stand at an extremely low growth level. A number of negative factors influencing the process of attracting foreign direct investment were identified. The main current requirements of the Ukraine in the process of integration into the world economic space, is the formation of a mechanism of investment activity, an important component of which is the mechanism of investment provision. |

| Abstrakt | This paper attempts to analyse the changes in labour and land productivity in agriculture in Poland resulting from changes to the production structures in this sector, particularly changes in the relationships between production factors, i.e. land, labour and capital. The analysis covered the years 2002–2016. It was found that this period saw important changes in agriculture expressed in the concentration of agrarian structure and the progressive substitution of land and labour by capital, which was reflected in the increase of work technical equipment and the rate of technical progress. There was also a progressive outflow of some of the labour resources from agriculture. A positive correlation between the productivity of land and labour and the said structural changes in agriculture was found. |

In order to assess the level of rural area development, the following indicators were used: rural population size and structure, fertility, mortality and expected life expectancy of the rural population. The aim of the study is to assess trends in the development of demographic processes and to develop proposals for the sustainable development of Ukrainian rural areas, taking into account the experience of Poland. |

| Abstrakt | Climate change adds extra stress on the current global situations and the regional development plans. Despite, Africa being rated the least among the continents contributing to the atmospheric pollution, it continues to be responsible for the least global emissions (estimated at 4%). Although they contributed to anthropogenic emission slightly, African continent is one of the highly vulnerable to impacts of long-term climate variability and extreme weather events, especially on the Nile. Moreover, developing countries are the most vulnerable to climate change impacts because they have fewer resources to adapt: socially, technologically and financially. Therefore, this paper is seeking to find and modify the regional development process in the frame of climate change along the Nile river. By considering some examples to accelerate the development process and methods in the Nile’s valley regions. Strongly related to the climate change impacts on different sectors and activities such agriculture, industry, energy, and the water supply and demand as well. |

| Abstrakt | European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was set up by the European Union that operates independently of the European legislative and executive institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament) and EU Member States. It was established in 2002 to be a source of scientific advice and communication on risks associated with the food chain. European Food Safety Authority is responsible for risk assessment, and also has a duty to communicate its scientific findings to the public. It produces scientific opinions and advice that constitute the basis for European policies and legislation. It also play an important role in collecting and analysing data to ensure that European risk assessment is supported by the most comprehensive scientific information available. Thus, it is the treasure trove for present and future public health specialists and nutritionists. Since 29 February 2008 when the Polish EFSA Focal Point was established at the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate EFSA’s word has become potentially more reachable for Polish consumers and entrepreneurs. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of university students of public health, dietetics and other disciplines related to human nutrition on EFSA’s objective and scope of its operation as well as to assess EFSA as a potential source of information for them. The study was carried out using the CAWI method from June to November 2017 among 201 students of public health (68 students) and faculties related to human nutrition (133 students). Among them, 85% of public health students did not work and 82% of students of faculties related to human nutrition neither did. The most of public health students were in their fourth year and among students of faculties related to human nutrition a group in third year the accounted for the greatest part. Results were analysed using configure frequency analysis (CFA) and χ2 test. Results indicate that 41% of public health student and 11% of students of human nutrition related faculties did not know EFSA at the moment of participation in the study. In both groups of public health students and students of human nutrition related faculties, more participants were not encouraged by the university to use information published by EFSA (respectively 87 and 63%). Only 4% of public health students and 38% of students of faculties related to human nutrition did use at least once information published by EFSA. The most often indicated cause of not using EFSA’s resources was lack of awareness of possibility to explore it (62%). In general, more students of faculties related to human nutrition did know EFSA’s activities, were encouraged to use its information and were interested in Polish fanpage of EFSA than public health students. The knowledge of students about EFSA and the possibility of using its resources is insuffi cient. It is reasonable to include EFSA-related topics in the study program of public health faculty and human nutrition-related faculties in order to better familiarize students with EFSA resources and show them what tools and opportunities they offer in their academic and professional life. |

Jego działalność jest niezależna od europejskich instytucji prawodawczych i wykonawczych (Komisji, Rady, Parlamentu) i państw członkowskich UE. Urząd został założony w 2002 r., aby stanowić źródło doradztwa naukowego i komunikacji w zakresie ryzyka związanego z łańcuchem żywnościowym. Europejski Urząd ds. Bezpieczeństwa Żywności jest odpowiedzialny za ocenę ryzyka, a także ma obowiązek przekazywania swoich wyników badań naukowych do informacji publicznej. Wydaje opinie i porady naukowe, które stanowią podstawę europejskich polityk i prawodawstwa. Odgrywa również ważną rolę w gromadzeniu i analizowaniu danych, aby zapewnić, że europejska ocena ryzyka jest wspierana przez najbardziej wszechstronne, dostępne informacje naukowe. W związku z powyższym EFSA stanowi bogate źródło informacji dla obecnych i przyszłych specjalistów zdrowia publicznego oraz żywieniowców. Od 29 stycznia 2008 r., gdy został ustanowiony polski punkt koordynacyjny EFSA z siedzibą Warszawie, przekaz EFSA stał się potencjalnie bardziej osiągalny dla polskich konsumentów i przedsiębiorców. Celem badania była analiza wiedzy studentów (kierunków: zdrowie publiczne, dietetyka, żywienie człowieka i pokrewnych związanych z żywieniem człowieka) na temat celu i zakresu działalności EFSA oraz jego oceny jako potencjalnego źródła informacji. Badanie przeprowadzono z użyciem metody CAWI w okresie od czerwca do listopada 2017 r. w grupie studentów zdrowia publicznego (67 osób) i kierunków związanych z żywieniem (137 osób). W okresie badania 85% studentów zdrowia publicznego i 82% studentów kierunków związanych z żywieniem nie pracowało. Większość studentów zdrowia publicznego była na czwartym roku studiów. Nieco młodsi byli studenci kierunków związanych z żywieniem, wśród których przeważały osoby z trzeciego roku studiów. Wyniki badania przeanalizowane na podstawie konfi guracyjnej analizy częstotliwości wskazują, że 41% studentów zdrowia publicznego i 11% studentów kierunków związanych z żywieniem człowieka nie znało pojęcia EFSA. Niezależnie od kierunku większość studentów twierdziła, że nie była zachęcana przez swoją uczelnię do korzystania z zasobów informacyjnych EFSA. Tylko 4% studentów zdrowia publicznego i 38% studentów kierunków związanych z żywieniem człowieka przynajmniej raz korzystało z informacji publikowanych przez EFSA. Głównymi przyczynami niekorzystania z zasobów EFSA, zidentyfikowanymi wśród badanych respondentów, były brak wiedzy o urzędzie oraz niemożność korzystania z jego zasobów (według 62% badanych). Większą wiedzę o EFSA deklarowali studenci kierunków związanych z żywieniem człowieka. Częściej znali zakres działalności EFSA, byli zachęcani do korzystania z jego opracowań, wyrażali zainteresowanie śledzeniem polskiego fanpage urzędu. Wiedza studentów na temat EFSA oraz możliwości wykorzystania jego zasobów jest niewystarczająca. Zasadne jest włączenie do program nauczania na kierunku zdrowie publiczne i kierunkach pokrewnych z żywieniem człowieka zagadnień związanych z EFSA, aby lepiej zapoznać studentów z zasobami tego urzędu i wskazać im narzędzia i możliwości oferowane im w życiu akademickim i zawodowym. |

| Abstrakt | Celem pracy było wskazanie ewolucji znaczenia ziemi w kształtowaniu struktury społecznej. Analizy zagadnienia dokonano na podstawie wybranych pozycji krajowej literatury przedmiotu. Zakres czasowy dotyczy lat 1944–2016. Ziemia pełni ważną funkcję w kształtowaniu struktury społecznej polskiej wsi. Wielkość gospodarstwa była dawniej podstawowym kryterium statusu społecznego na wsi i wśród rolników. Obecnie o miejscu w strukturze społecznej polskiej wsi w wysokim stopniu decyduje również obszar użytkowanej ziemi (w formie własności lub dzierżawy). Zmienia się sytuacja użytkowników ziemi rolniczej. Są nimi bowiem nie tylko osoby identyfi kujące się z zawodem rolnika. W składzie struktury społecznej polskiej wsi znajduje się coraz więcej osób, które w świetle prawa są rolnikami (posiadają wymagany areał gruntów rolnych), ale wieś jest dla nich tylko miejscem zamieszkania. Następną grupę tworzą tzw. nieobecni właściciele, których z wsią łączy posiadanie gruntów rolnych, które traktują często jako lokatę kapitału (wzrost cen gruntów i możliwość otrzymywania dopłat ze środków Unii Europejskiej i z budżetu krajowego). W wyniku transformacji ustrojowej swoje usytuowanie w strukturze społecznej wsi znaleźli także dzierżawcy i nabywcy ziemi przejętej do Zasobu Własności Rolnej Skarbu Państwa po byłych państwowych gospodarstwach rolnych. |
| Abstract | The aim of the study was to identify the importance of the evolution of land resources in shaping the social structure. The analysis was based on selected references from the Polish literature on the subject. The time range covers the years 1944–2016. Land plays an important role in shaping the social structure of the Polish countryside. The size of a farm used to be the primary criterion for social status in the countryside and among farmers. Currently, a position in the social structure of the Polish rural communities is highly determined by the area of farmed land (owned or leased). The situation of agricultural land users is changing. These are not only people who identify themselves with the profession of a farmer. The social structure composition in the Polish countryside comprises more and more people who are farmers in the light of law (they have the required acreage of agricultural land) but they do not reside in the countryside. Another group consists of so-called absent owners, who are connected with a village by possessing in it some agricultural land, but it is often treated as an investment (an increase in land prices and the possibility of receiving subsidies from the European Union and from the national budget). As a result of Poland’s political transformation, the social structure of rural communities now also comprises leases and buyers of land acquired by the Agricultural Property of the Treasury from former state farms. |

Jednym z jej filarów jest wzrost znaczenia odnawialnych źródeł energii. Celem badań było określenie barier wynikających ze strony podażowej rynku biomasy rolnej w województwie łódzkim. Przeprowadzony wywiad kwestionariuszowy pozwolił na identyfikację kilku czynników niekorzystnie wpływających na rozwój rynku biomasy rolnej w województwie łódzkim, takich jak organizacja strony logistycznej odbioru surowca, opłacalność sprzedaży czy też brak dostępu do innowacyjnych rozwiązań. |
| Abstract | International cooperation on climate protection has very strong impact, which translates into increased interest in renewable energy, including biomass. Assuming the regional use of biomass, it may be an important source for energy, taking into account the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The aim of paper was to identify the supply barriers for the agricultural biomass market development in Lodz province. In this case, information obtained from structured interview was used. The main barriers on the supply side include i.e. lack of organized transport, unprofitability of the sales/production, lack of knowledge and access to information about innovative possibilities of energy use of biomass. |
