Abstract	Dramatic increase in the use of derivatives instruments as the tools commodity price risk management has been observed over the course of recent years. New types of instruments are designed that can better match risk profiles of the commodity market participants. One of the newly introduced instruments is commodity swap, offered for the first time in the mid 1980’s. Particularly large increase in the volume and value of these transactions has been recorded during the first decade of the XXI-st century. The basic commodity swap is a transaction between two parties which calls for the single or multiple exchange of cash flows where the value of these cash flows is dependent on the price of commodity (or basket of commodities) underlying the contract. Entering into commodity swap as a risk management tool allows fixing the price of the underlying commodity over long term time horizon. Commodity swap are used most extensively as a risk management instrument for energy commodities and for commodities with no active commodity futures markets that are considered prime alternative to swaps. In the last few years energy companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange began to use commodity swaps, primarily for the purpose of fixing purchase price of oil and gas – major cost components for these companies.

Abstract	Tax incidence is a rational reaction of taxpayers to taxation. The taxpayer will attempt to shift the tax burden to other market entities. In order to analyze the degree of such shift, it is necessary to be able to measure it. This publication presents the tax incidence measure as the sum of two components: the percentage of taxation shift from the taxpayer to the recipient and the percentage of taxation shift from the taxpayer to the supplier. This index appears to be a good tool. Its advantages include an ability to measure tax incidence impacts in varying directions, the possibility to combine forward and backward incidence to show incidence against base price levels – that is the differentiation between partial, full and over incidence. The index which specifies the degree of tax incidence means it becomes an operational value, that is, it becomes measurable. We will be able to predict the effects of taxation more easily, measuring the degree of taxpayers’ reaction to taxation.

Abstract	The study provides an assessment of profitability of strawberries, grown for direct consumption in the traditional time of harvest. The aim was to determine the economic impact of strawberries in Poland and in the world, determine the direction of the use of strawberries in Poland and to determine the profitability of production and the factors shaping it. Our study was carried out for the period 2006–2011 in deliberately chosen farm, where for more than 10 years are produced strawberries. It was found that the fundamental determinants of profitability was the level of yields, the price obtained and the level of direct costs incurred in the production process.

Abstract	An analysis of price changes at particular levels of main agri-food markets, namely cereal market, dairy market and meat market, implies that price shifts that occurred over the period of 2004–2011 were favourable for agriculture. Polish accession to the EU triggered increase in retail food prices. Despite considerable short-term fluctuation there were no substantial changes in the share of producers, processors and traders in retail prices of food. Price mechanism assured efficient price transmission between particular stages of food markets which after price shocks recovered to previous proportions of particular margins resulting from long-term equilibrium.

Abstrakt	W latach 1990-2010 relacje pomiędzy cenami detalicznymi środków mechanizacji rolnictwa a cenami skupu produktów rolniczych w Polsce na ogół znacznie się pogorszyły. W porównaniu do stanu z 1990 r., zestaw złożony z 24 środków mechanizacji rolnictwa był w 2010 r. droższy o 35,2% w relacji do mleka, o 109,8% – do żywca wołowego, o 217,4% – do pszenicy, o 229,6% – do żyta i o 362,1% – do żywca wieprzowego. Zestaw ten potaniał natomiast o 9,4% w relacji do ceny skupu ziemniaków.
Abstract	During the years 1990-2010 reported changes of relations between retail prices of farm machines and procurement prices of agricultural products were, in general, unfavourable for farmers. As compared to 1990, the set of 24 farm machines used as a base for analysis was in 2010 more expensive in relation to cow milk by 35.2%, to cattle for slaughter by 108.9%, to wheat by 217.4, to rye by 229.6%, and to pigs for slaughter by 362.1%. Instead, it was by 9.4% cheaper in relation to potatoes.

Abstrakt	Zmienność jest podstawowym parametrem, wykorzystywanym przy szacowaniu wartości narażonej na ryzyko, optymalizacji portfela i wycenie opcji. Istnieje wiele metod wyznaczania zmienności. Do najpopularniejszych należą odchylenie standardowe, procedura EWMA i modele GARCH (p, q). Obliczenia wykonywane każdą z wymienionych metod mogą dawać odmienne wyniki. Celem artykułu jest ocena wpływu zmienności, w zależności od przyjętej metody szacowania, na przewidywane ceny zbóż otrzymywane w modelu dwumianowym. Badaniem objęto ceny zbóż w Polsce w okresie od 27.12.2004 do 25.04.2010 roku.
Abstract	Volatility is the basic parameter used to calculate value at risk, to optimize portfolio or to evaluate options. There are several methods to estimate the volatility. The most popular are following: standard deviation, EWMA and GARCH (p,q) concepts. Each of them may provide different results. The aim of the paper is to asses the impact of volatility on predicted grain prices in the binomial model with respect to the method of volatility estimation. The research focuses on grain prices in Poland and covers the period from 27.12.2004 to 25.04.2010.

Abstrakt	W artykule podjęto problem oceny sytuacji rolnictwa na tle tendencji ogólnoekonomicznych w okresie 2007-2009. Do stabilizatorów rozwoju rolnictwa w Polsce zaliczyć można: wsparcie tego sektora poprzez instrumenty polityki interwencyjnej, a zwłaszcza płatności bezpośrednie, jak również względnie mało elastyczny popyt na żywność. Nie bez znaczenia jest także stabilny poziom stopy akumulacji. Z tego względu sektor ten jest względnie odporny na występujące zjawiska kryzysowe na świecie. W Polsce dostosowania rynkowe w rolnictwie po 2004 r. sprowadzały się głównie do zacieśnienia kontaktów z rynkiem poprzez wzrost wartości produkcji, nakładów, modernizację gospodarstw. Po roku 2007 odnotowano pogorszenie sytuacji ekonomicznej rolnictwa w Polsce. Trudno ją uznać za kryzysową. W znacznej mierze wynikała ona z uwarunkowań rynkowych, głównie pogorszenia relacji cenowych.
Abstract	The problem of evaluation of agriculture in light of the general economic tendencies in period 2007-2009 was undertaken in the article. It has been stated that there are stabilizers in the development of agriculture in Poland: the support of this sector by instruments of interventionist policy, especially direct payments, as well as relatively low demand on food. Also a stable level of accumulation is important for this process. In Poland the market adaptation in agriculture after 2004 depended on tightening market contacts through growth of the value of production, expenditures, the modernization of farms. After 2007 a worsening economic situation has been noted in agriculture in Poland, although it is difficult to recognize this situation as critical. To a considerable extent this was the result of market conditioning, especially worsening price relationship. Simultaneously agriculture in Poland did not distinguish itself considerably in relation to the average situation of the UE in terms of experiencing the crisis phenomena. From another perspective because of the relatively more profitable macroeconomic situation in Poland in consequence of the increase of GDP after 2008, the situation in the studied sector was based on a general-economic tendency which was less profitable than average in countries of the UE.

Abstrakt	Celem badań jest określenie specyfiki rynku gruntów rolnych oraz charakterystyka głównych determinantów podejmowania decyzji inwestycyjnych na tym rynku. Wyniki badań wykazały, że na rynku gruntów rolnych, w porównaniu z innymi segmentami rynku nieruchomości, niższy jest poziom stopy zwrotu mierzonej ilorazem rocznych dochodów z czynszów z tytułu dzierżawy do ceny gruntu. Pomimo tego, w ostatnich latach utrzymywał się popyt na grunty rolne oraz tendencja wzrostowa ich cen, czego nie notowano na rynkach innego rodzaju nieruchomości. Dowodzi to istnienia innych czynników niż uzyskiwanie dochodów z nieruchomości z tytułu dzierżawy, wpływających na podejmowanie decyzji inwestycyjnych na tym rynku.
Abstract	The aim of this study was an attempt to determine the specificity of the agricultural land market and the characteristics of the major determinants of investment decisions in this market. The obtained results showed that the agricultural land market is characterized by lower level of return on investment compared to other segments of the real estate market. Nevertheless, in recent years high demand for agricultural land and the upward trend in their prices have been continued, which was not recorded in the other real estate markets. This proves the existence of other factors, apart from getting income from real property under a lease, which affect investment decisions in this market.

Abstrakt	Ceny surowców rolnych stanowią najważniejszy parametr podejmowania decyzji gospodarczych przez producentów rolnych, ponieważ bezpośrednio wpływają na dochody przez nich uzyskiwane. Stąd ważne jest poznawanie uwarunkowań ich zmienności. Wśród czynników, które wpływają na ceny zbóż coraz częściej wskazuje się na ceny ropy naftowej. Celem opracowania jest ocena powiązań między cenami ropy na rynkach światowych a cenami pszenicy w Polsce. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły opinie, że istnieje znaczny wpływ cen ropy na ceny pszenicy, przy tym charakter i siła tych związków ulega zmianom w czasie.
Abstract	Agricultural commodities’ prices play a crucial role in the process of farmers’ decision making. It is due to their direct impact on farmers’ income. It is important to explain the causes of changes of those prices. Among factors influencing wheat prices, crude oil prices are considered as one of the most important. The aim of this paper was an assessment of the connection between world crude oil prices and Polish wheat prices. The results of research confirm an existence of cause-effect of crude oil prices on wheat prices, although the nature and the strength of this relationship changes in time.

Abstrakt	W pracy przedstawiono opłacalność produkcji czarnej porzeczki według cen z 2010 roku. Przedstawiono koszty założenia plantacji i jej użytkowania w okresie inwestycyjnym oraz koszty ponoszone w okresie pełnego owocowania. Przeprowadzono również ocenę zmiany opłacalności produkcji w zależności od ceny i uzyskanego plonu. Stwierdzono, że uprawa czarnej porzeczki staje się nieopłacalna, jeśli cena wynosi 1,3 zł za kg, a plon - 4 tony z hektara.
Abstract	The work presents an analysis of blackcurrant production profitability. The following costs were considered: the cost of operation establishment, cost of blackcurrant cultivation during the investment period and costs incurred during the stage of fruit ripe for picking. An analysis of production profitability changes depending on price and yield was also conducted. It was found that blackcurrant cultivation became unprofitable at a price of PLN 1.3 per 1 kg and fruit yield of 4 tons per ha.

Abstrakt	Głód stanowi obecnie jedno z największych niebezpieczeństw ludzkości. Zjawisko to jest groźne zarówno w wymiarze politycznym, ekonomicznym jak i humanitarnym. Możliwości produkcyjne rolnictwa przyjmują wyraźnie dwubiegunowy charakter. W krajach średnio i wysoko rozwiniętych rolnictwo jest w stanie nie tylko zaspokoić potrzeby żywnościowe swojej ludności, ale także wytworzyć ich nadwyżki. Natomiast na pokaźnych obszarach Ziemi (ok. 1 mld mieszkańców) występuje permanentne zjawisko braku żywności. Tą niekorzystną sytuację pogłębia w ostatnich latach wyraźny wzrost cen produktów żywnościowych. W największym stopniu odczuje to społeczność żyjąca w krajach biednych, nieustannie zagrożonych problemem głodu.
Abstract	Starvation is contemporary one of the largest danger for humankind. It is dangerous from the political, economic, as well as humanitarian point of view. Agriculture in medium and highly developed countries is able to provide enough food but also produces food surpluses. However, there is a considerable phenomenon of lack of food on a large part of the world, which concerns about one billion people. This disadvantageous situation has deteriorated recently because of significant increase in food prices. Inhabitants of poor countries, continually endangered with starvation, will suffer mostly from this tendency

Abstract	The aim of this paper is look through the agrarian trade between Slovakia and Poland. The Slovak and Polish agriculture is managed by the Common Agricultural Policy. It has main impact on both national agrarian policies. The situation in agriculture in both countries is different. It is because of the historical development of agriculture in Poland and in Slovakia. Slovakia achieved negative trade balance with agrarian trade with Poland in 2010. It means that the Slovak Export of agrarian commodities is smaller than Polish import into Slovakia. It is because the Poland is neighbor country of Slovakia. The second important reason is that the prices of agrarian commodities are lower than in Slovakia. The reason is also because the same features of consumers.

Abstrakt	Celem opracowanie jest przedstawienie, na przykładzie oliwy z oliwek, zmian w ofercie handlowej produktów na polskim rynku żywnościowym w następstwie akcesji Polski do UE. źródłem informacji były dane wtórne i pierwotne. Te ostatnie pozyskano drogą badania rynkowego obejmującego osiem wybranych warszawskich placówek handlowych. Szczególnej ocenie poddano dostępny asortyment i jego ceny.
Abstract	The aim of this paper was to display the post-accession to the EU changes in the product offer in the Polish food market. Two types of data were used: secondary and primary. Primary data were collected by own market survey, conducted in eight selected Warsaw stores. The special attention was paid to the available assortment and its prices.

Abstrakt	Artykuł koncentruje się na zagadnieniu państwowego wsparcia dla przedsiębiorstw sektora rolnego z wykorzystaniem finansowania budżetowego, ulgowego opodatkowania, regulowania taryfowego i celnego, kształtowania cen i innych instrumentów. Główną uwagę poświęcono problemowi nieefektywnego wykorzystania środków scentralizowanego wsparcia finansowego. Zaproponowano ograniczenie kanałów wsparcia państwowego i popieranie najbardziej efektywnych form i rodzajów produkcji.
Abstract	Problems of the state support for the agricultural enterprises by methods of budgetary financing, preferential taxation, tariff and customs regulations and price controls are considered. The basic attention is given to the problem of inefficient use of means in the centralized support fund. The author suggests to reduce expenses of the state support and to those supporting the most effective forms and branches of production.

Abstrakt	W pracy przedstawiono zmiany cen gruntów rolnych na poziomie województw w okresie od 2004 do 2009 roku. Przedstawiono również zmiany w koncentracji ziemi rolniczej na przykładzie gospodarstw powyżej 50 ha. Celem pracy było zbadanie wpływu cen w województwach sąsiadujących na cenę gruntów rolnych w danym województwie i prezentacja zmian cen gruntów w Polsce. W pracy wykorzystano współczynniki przestrzenne Morana.
Abstract	Changes of land prices in years 2004 through 2009 are presented. The aim of this article was to study the relations between the location of farm and the land price. The scope of the study includes 16 voivodeships of Poland. The study applies to farms with area of 50 hectare and more. Moran coefficients were used in the statistical analysis
