Abstrakt	W artykule dokonano analizy roli instytucji w zróżnicowaniu cen dóbr i usług konsumpcyjnych, w tym żywności, pomiędzy wybranymi krajami Unii Europejskiej. Badanie ma celu sprawdzenie, czy w państwach UE występuje statystyczny związek pomiędzy rela­tywnym poziomem cen a wybranymi wymiarami instytucji. Zmiennymi reprezentującymi instytucje i ich egzekwowanie są wskaźniki Wordwide Governance Indicators Banku Światowego, Economic Freedom of the World Instytutu Frasera oraz wybrane dane z Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey EBOR i Banku Światowego. Szeregi czasowe dotyczące relatywnych cen pozyskano z OECD oraz Eurostatu. Przyjęty okres badawczy zawiera się w latach 1996-2010. Do określenia statystycznego związku cen z instytucjami wykorzystano współczynniki korelacji liniowej Pearsona. Wyniki badania liniowego związku pomiędzy róż­nymi wymiarami instytucji i relatywnymi cenami nie wskazały jednoznacznych podobieństw między krajami lub podobieństw czasowych co do siły i kierunku powiązań, ale korelacje niektórych cech z cenami były umiarkowane lub wysokie.
Abstract	This paper analyzes the role of institutions in price setting and cross-country price disparity. The objective of the study was to test whether there is a statistical relationship between relative price levels and selected dimensions of quality of institutions. The whole observation period runs from 1996 to 2010. Data set includes comparative consumer and food price levels from the Eurostat-OECD PPP Programme as well as an institutional quality indices produced by the World Bank (Worldwide Governance Indicators), the Fraser Institute (the survey Economic Freedom of the World) and the EBRD-World Bank (Business Environment and Enterprise Perfor­mance Survey). The analysis separately covers Central and Eastern European EU Member States, and Poland with Denmark. The results of the linear relationship between the different dimensions of institutions and price levels did not indicate the similarities between countries and in time with regard to strength and direction of that relationships, although correlations between the prices and some institutional variables were moderate and high.

Abstrakt	Perspektywy rynkowe, zmiany polityczne, rozwój technologiczny i oczekiwania producentów mleka i ekspertów z UE, USA i Nowej Zelandii są podstawą do przygotowania do podjęcia kluczowych decyzji przed jakimi staną holenderscy rolnicy w ciągu najbliższych pięciu lat. Badania wykazały, że trwa rozwój gospodarstw sektora mleczarskiego we wszystkich wiodących krajach w sektorze mleczarskim na świecie. Jednak istnieje potrzeba innej organizacji produkcji na poziomie gospodarstwa, przede wszystkim zwiększenia nacisku na zarządzanie personelem. W ujęciu globalnym należy spodziewać silniejszych wahań cen mleka w UE.
Abstract	Market perspectives, political changes, technological development and the expectations of milk producers and experts from the EU, USA and New Zealand constitute the basis for preparing and undertaking key decisions Dutch farmers will face in the next five years. The research has found that the development of farms from the milk sector is ongoing in all leading countries of the world. However, a different form of production organization with particular emphasis on the management of personnel is required. On a global scale, one can expect greater fluctuations in the price of milk in the EU.

Abstrakt	Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zmian zachodzących w rolnictwie Polski i Rosji jako przykładów odmiennych modeli rozwoju struktur w procesie globalizacji. Zwrócono uwagę na odmienność w warunkach makroekonomicznych i zróżnicowane ścieżki uzyskiwania równowagi makroekonomicznej naruszonej w wyniku transformacji ustrojowej. Scharakteryzowano zmiany zachodzące w rolnictwie na podstawie wskaźników: cen produktów żywnościowych, nożyc cenowych oraz parytetu dochodów gospodarstw rolnych. Omówiono przepływy strumieni retransferów kierowanych do rolnictwa w oparciu o metodykę pomiaru stosowaną przez Bank Światowy do oszacowania nadwyżki ekonomicznej. Zwrócono uwagę na dysproporcje pomiędzy retransferami do rolnictwa a przepływem nadwyżki ekonomicznej do pozarolniczych segmentów gospodarki. Wskazano na wyraźne zróżnicowanie w tej kwestii między Polską i Rosją będące wyrazem odmiennego modelu przekształceń rolnictwa.
Abstract	The aim of the article is the presentation of changes conditioning the economics of agriculture in Poland and Russia, using examples of different models of structural development which have conditioned globalization. Attention was paid to the dissimilarities which conditioned macroeconomics and differentiated paths of obtaining macroeconomic equilibrium which were violated as a result of constitutional transformation. One characterized change concerning agriculture was observed on the basis of the following indicators: prices of foodstuffs, price shears and the parity of earnings of farms. One discussed streams of re-transfers to agriculture based on the methodology of the measurement applied as a result of the World Bank’s appraisal of the economic surplus. Attention was paid to the imbalances among re-transfers to agriculture and the flow of the economic surplus to non-agricultural segments of the economy. Evidence shows imbalances in the considered countries resulting from different models of conversions in agriculture.

Abstract	The study provides an assessment of profitability of strawberries, grown for direct consumption in the traditional time of harvest. The aim was to determine the economic impact of strawberries in Poland and in the world, determine the direction of the use of strawberries in Poland and to determine the profitability of production and the factors shaping it. Our study was carried out for the period 2006–2011 in deliberately chosen farm, where for more than 10 years are produced strawberries. It was found that the fundamental determinants of profitability was the level of yields, the price obtained and the level of direct costs incurred in the production process.

Abstract	This article shows the changes of structural census of agricultural enterprises which was lastly performed in 2010. The census of agriculture is published every ten years. The aim of the article is to show the impact of farm’s legal forms on sources of funding which is one of two main objectives of article’s research. Second objective explains the correlation of legal status of enterprises and sources of external funds. From the comparison of these two points, the result will either confirm or refute the claims that farms should have the highest contribution of external capital to achieve the ideal results. In the paper the difference in funding between the two legal forms was confirmed. The indebtedness of commercial companies is considerably higher in both observed years (2003, 2009). Another finding is that during the observed period (2003-2009) the proportion of commercial companies with higher indebtedness increased significantly. Since Slovakia joined the EU the amount of external sources has risen and it is still rising. But a positive respond in profitability of agriculture enterprises was not observed, as would be expected. According to the Cluster Analysis the centroids of both legal forms were unprofitable in 2003. By comparison between the year 2003, the year in which Slovakia joined the EU and the year 2009, we observe an overall increase in the economic result from the negative to the positive integers. The year 2009 from the point of view of the farmers we can apperceive as a positive year in terms of the world prices, which were on the historical highest level. These prices were supported by a weak U.S. dollar. In the paper the difference in management of the two legal forms was confirmed. In both observed years commercial companies have the highest ratio of external funds, the lowest number employees and the lowest area per hectare. And cooperatives can be characterized with the highest number of employees and also the highest area per hectare.

Abstract	In this study the agricultural social security system was analysed in terms of adequacy of the premiums paid by farmers against the demographic transitions, taking place in agriculture. The analyses were based on the World Bank’s model, used for estimating the security systems costs. The focus of this study is on the changing proportions between the insured and the beneficiaries, resulting from changes in the size of labour force and population ageing. The analysis of data has revealed that one of the causes behind low receipts from premiums, and thus high state subsidies granted to farmers, stems from the unfavourable proportions between the insured and the beneficiaries in the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS). The resultant indicators of the current demographic changes reveal that the premium paid by farmers should be higher than it is now.

Abstract	The awareness of animal welfare and animal well-being is growing all over Europe and the world. The concerns are related to the applied policy regimes, economic sustainability of the production methods, food quality and safety, consumers’ health and behaviour and their willingness to pay for animal products obtained in animal-friendly conditions. The paper aims to analyse the consumers’ awareness and its effect on consumers’ purchasing behaviour in Bulgaria. The data were collected under the WELANIMAL project, based on a questionnaire. Later a statistical analysis was done. At the end it is concluded that consumers still need to be educated and there are opportunities to enhance their awareness of animal welfare standards through marketing actions

Abstrakt	W latach 2007-2008 zaobserwowano w skali światowej drastyczny wzrost cen żywności oraz surowców rolnych. Analiza szeregu czasowego globalnych cen od stycznia 1990 do kwietnia 2010 wskazuje, że tempo ich zmian w latach 2007-2008 w przypadku wielu grup towarowych wyraźnie przewyższało średnią miesięczną stopę wzrostu dla całego okresu. Za wyjątkowym krótkookresowym wzrostem stało przypuszczalnie wiele przyczyn. W opracowaniu podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy i w jaki sposób inwestycje finansowe przyczyniły się do tego zjawiska. Dane zaczerpnięto z bazy FAO oraz raportów Komisji ds. Obrotu Kontraktami Futures na Surowce w USA.
Abstract	In years 2007-2008, prices of food and agricultural products surged dramatically all round the world. The time series analysis of monthly global prices from 1990 through April 2010 shows that prices for several commodity groups in 2007-2008 outpaced long-run price increases, suggesting many factors attributed to this phenomenon. This study tries to answer the question whether and how financial investments have affected those increases. The data for the study were obtained from FAO, US Commodity Futures Trading Commission and other public financial information

Abstract	The significance of organic farming in the World is increasing constantly. Especially in the European Union, partially through the more environmentally orientated reforms of the CAP. Moreover it combines economic, social and environmental objectives. Implementation of financial support made the growth of the number of organic farms in Poland possible. Unfortunately this process didn’t influence the development of the organic market. This research paper confirms the negative impacts of enforcement of organic financial support in Poland. In the future, this could result in the change in the target group for the subsidies towards organic farms that produce goods mainly for the organic market. But it will also reduce support for small family farms which future, in this case, brings into question.

Abstrakt	Głód stanowi obecnie jedno z największych niebezpieczeństw ludzkości. Zjawisko to jest groźne zarówno w wymiarze politycznym, ekonomicznym jak i humanitarnym. Możliwości produkcyjne rolnictwa przyjmują wyraźnie dwubiegunowy charakter. W krajach średnio i wysoko rozwiniętych rolnictwo jest w stanie nie tylko zaspokoić potrzeby żywnościowe swojej ludności, ale także wytworzyć ich nadwyżki. Natomiast na pokaźnych obszarach Ziemi (ok. 1 mld mieszkańców) występuje permanentne zjawisko braku żywności. Tą niekorzystną sytuację pogłębia w ostatnich latach wyraźny wzrost cen produktów żywnościowych. W największym stopniu odczuje to społeczność żyjąca w krajach biednych, nieustannie zagrożonych problemem głodu.
Abstract	Starvation is contemporary one of the largest danger for humankind. It is dangerous from the political, economic, as well as humanitarian point of view. Agriculture in medium and highly developed countries is able to provide enough food but also produces food surpluses. However, there is a considerable phenomenon of lack of food on a large part of the world, which concerns about one billion people. This disadvantageous situation has deteriorated recently because of significant increase in food prices. Inhabitants of poor countries, continually endangered with starvation, will suffer mostly from this tendency

Abstract	The paper points at some points of country marketing, for example how European countries could be successful in the situation of global competitiveness, not only taking into account their history or culture but also in the area of product image, such as a country of origin. Country in its own is also a way of a brand. Most countries communicate with the rest of the world on several levels and so they create their images whether knowingly or randomly. Political decisions of the government, the ways of attracting foreign investors and skilled workforce, export of products, export of culture, promotion of tourism and ultimately inhabitants themselves of the country are also either positively or negatively involved in creating the country image.
