| Abstrakt | Celem artykułu była ocena zdolności konkurencyjnej głównych branż przemysłu spożywczego UE, USA i Kanady na rynku światowym, z wykorzystaniem wybranych wskaźników ekonomicznych i handlowych. Zakres czasowy analiz objął lata 2007-2016. W badaniach wykorzystano dane urzędów i agencji statystycznych UE (Eurostat), USA (US Census Bureau, FAS/USDA) i Kanady (Agriculture and Agri-food Canada). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz można stwierdzić, że poprawa pozycji konkurencyjnej branż unijnego przemysłu spożywczego w większym stopniu była determinowana skalą aktywności w handlu światowym (rosnącymi udziałami w globalnym eksporcie), natomiast o przewagach konkurencyjnych przemysłu spożywczego USA i Kanady decydowały przewagi o charakterze ekonomicznym, związane z poprawą ekonomicznych wyników działalności przedsiębiorstw danej branży, jej udziału w tworzeniu realnej wartości dodanej przemysłu spożywczego oraz produktywności pracy. |
| Abstract | The aim of the paper was to assess the competitive capacity of the main sectors of the EU, the US and Canadian food industry, using selected economic and trade indicators. Time range of the research covered the years 2007-2016. The research is based on the data from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), the US Census Bureau, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service's Global Agricultural Trade System (FAS/USDA) and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. It was proved that improvement of the competitive position of the EU food industry was more determined by the scale of activity in world trade (increasing share in global exports), while competitive advantages of the US and Canadian food industry were influenced by economic advantages associated with improving the economic performance of enterprises in a given sector, its share in the real value added of the food industry as a whole and labour productivity. |

| Abstrakt | Albania has considerable potential for growth in the fruit and vegetable market. Its climate-arable conditions are very adequate for the successful growth of a wide range of fruits and vegetables. Albania has an interior market in development and a non structured exporting market. The study is aimed at estimating and identifying export growth opportunities and constraints for fruit and vegetable exporters. The paper investigates the opinions of producers and exporters in south-west Albania. A face-to-face interview survey method was conducted. Database elaboration was made through the SPSS program. An ordinary probit regression was used to evaluate the constraints of fruit and vegetable producers in Albania. We conclude that there are several problems that hamper exportation growth in Albania. Albanian producers are usually not able to penetrate into foreign markets because they are not part of consolidated marketing distribution channels. |

| Abstrakt | Celem artykułu jest próba oceny perspektyw wejścia na ścieżkę równowagi i stabilności makroekonomicznej w państwach UE. W pracy postawiono hipotezę: okres odbudowy gospodarczej państw UE po 2009 r. rodzi realne przesłanki wejścia na ścieżkę równowagi i stabilności makroekonomicznej w przyszłej perspektywie. Do zbadania zależności między popytem krajowym i PKB oraz wysokością eksportu i PKB wykorzystano współczynnik korelacji Pearsona. Natomiast ocenę sytuacji finansowej państw przeprowadzono na podstawie miar interwencji fiskalnej. Okres badawczy obejmuje lata 2000 – 2016. W rozdziale pierwszym wyjaśniono przesłanki wyboru grupy badawczej i zastosowane metody badawcze. W rozdziale drugim dokonano analizy kształtowania się wskaźników ekonomicznych. Zmiany w zakresie wskaźników fiskalnych ujęto w rozdziale trzecim. W podsumowaniu przedstawiono najważniejsze konkluzje wynikające z przeprowadzonych badań. |
| Abstract | The purpose of the article is an attempt to assess the prospects of entering the path of macroeconomic balance and stability in EU countries. A hypothesis was made in the work: the period of economic recovery of EU countries after 2009 raises real conditions for entering the path of macroeconomic balance and stability. The study of the relationship between domestic demand and GDP as well as the level of exports and GDP was carried out using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The assessment of the financial condition of the countries was made on the basis of measures of fiscal intervention. The research period covers the years 2000 – 2016. The first chapter explains the conditions for choosing a research group and applied research methods. The second chapter analyses the development of economic indicators. Changes in the scope of fiscal indicators are included in the third chapter. The summary presents the most important conclusions resulting from the conducted research. |

| Abstrakt | Celem badań było określenie pozycji konkurencyjnej Polski na rynku zagęszczonego soku jabłkowego w latach 2004–2015. W badaniu wykorzystano: saldo obrotów, udział w światowym eksporcie, wskaźnik ujawnionej przewagi komparatywnej (RCA) oraz indeks relatywnej komparatywnej przewagi eksportu (XRCA). Zastosowane mierniki wykazały, że eksport z Polski był konkurencyjny. Saldo handlu zagęszczonym sokiem jabłkowym w latach 2004–2015 wzrosło. W badanym okresie zwiększył się też udział Polski w światowym eksporcie soku. W latach 2004–2015 Polska miała przeciętną i silną przewagę komparatywną w eksporcie zagęszczonego soku jabłkowego, a Chiny silną. Najsilniejszą przewagę komparatywną w latach 2013–2015 uzyskały Mołdawia i Ukraina. |
| Abstract | The aim of the study was to establish the competitive position of Poland on the market of apple juice concentrate in the years 2004–20015 and compare it with the position of competitors. The research used the trade balance, share in the word exports, revealed comparative advantage index (RCA) and revealed comparative export advantage index (XRCA). In the analyzed period Poland was the second biggest exporter of apple juice concentrate in the world, preceded only by China. The applied measures showed that export from Poland was competitive. The trade balance of apple juice concentrate from Poland increased in the years 2004–2015. In the analyzed period Poland’s share in international export increased as well. The revealed comparative export advantage index showed that in years 2004–2015 Poland had an average and strong comparative advantage in apple juice concentrate exports, while China’s comparative advantage was strong. The strongest comparative advantage in years 2013–2015 was obtained by Moldova and Ukraine. |

| Abstrakt | The article examines the state and prospects of organic production by agricultural enterprises in the Ukraine. Existing natural, climatic and soil potential for the production of organic agricultural products as well as their export and consumption in the domestic market are characterized. It was noted that the development of organic production is one of the main priorities of the agrarian sector of the Ukrainian economy. State support for the development of this type of production is being implemented, as reflected in ‘3 + 5’ as a strategy for the development of the agrarian sector of the economy for the period until 2020. Attention is drawn to the instability of the environment, insufficient development of demand and limitations of financial resources, which hinder the realization of Ukraine’s potential in this segment of the agrarian sector. The conclusion on the necessity of applying marketing strategies for promoting and marketing organic products on domestic and foreign markets is drawn. The model of forming a marketing strategy of organic production development in the Ukraine is offered. |

| Abstrakt | The two-year Brexit process, formally initiated on March 2017, is coming to an end, intensifying public discussions and concerns about the future of the EU, including the community budget and policies. This paper articulates the likely implications of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU on the Common Agricultural Policy using a political economy approach. It focuses on the budgetary and agricultural trade consequences of the Brexit for the EU remaining member states. The European Commission’s proposed reduction by 5% of the CAP budget for 2021–2027 is one of the first Brexit consequences that potentially can result in a decline in EU farm incomes. The leaving the single market and customs union by the UK, traditionally taking a liberal market position, will probably affect not only the CAP, but also agricultural policies amongst WTO and G20 member countries. With lack of some kind of free trade agreement between the UK and the EU, agri-food net exports from the EU27 to the UK will decrease. |

| Abstrakt | It is established that the Ukrainian agrarian sector in recent years suffered quite serious reformational impacts on the institutional environment of the functioning of economic actors, in particular the influence of regulators on the transformation of agricultural development. It is substantiated that under institutional transformations it is appropriate to understand the changes that occur as part of the creation of new rules of conduct of participants, containing a specific mechanism for ensuring compliance with these rules, as well as improving organizational and economic regulators within the existing set of rules for all participants It is determined that the institutional system is a structured set of interrelated informal rules that determine, on the one hand, a system of incentives for increasing the efficiency of interaction between subjects of the agrarian economy, and, on the other hand, restricts the activities of economic agents, which create a certain framework for implementation their target functions in accordance with the law and public interests. |

| Abstrakt | The foreign trade in agricultural and food products is a significant reflection of an economic situation occurring in the current functioning of agriculture, food industry and its individual trades in a given country. It is worth considering how the export of Polish agricultural and food products may be compared with the Vise grad Group countries in this area. The article deals with an attempt to assess the export potential of agricultural and food products in the Visegrad Group countries in the years 2005–2017 using a modified index for an assessment of a level of competitiveness in a foreign trade, that is the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index – RCA – by Balassa. The results of the study prove that the export of agricultural and food products in the Visegrad Group countries is vulnerable to economic trends, there is a significant degree of competitiveness regarding export of the food products of animal origin in these countries, and the greatest level of competitiveness of the foreign trade in the food products of plant origin regarding cereals, and the trade in fruit and vegetables is less and less important. |

Poland’s accession to the EU, the managers’ experience gained on foreign markets and geographical proximity of foreign markets were the main determinants of internationalization for the respondents. For food industry companies, EU markets are the most attractive while export activities constitute the most common form of internationalization. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of this paper is to present changes in the role of EU countries, the USA and BRICS countries in international trade of goods and services and selected macroeconomic determinants of trade exchange in the analysed countries in the years 1960–2015 together with the projection of potential development of the situation until 2070. Investigated macroeconomic trade conditions included population size, GDP, GDP per capita and the inflation rate. Naive forecasting methods were used to estimate selected characteristics, as well as export and import volumes, considering their development trends. The analyses showed that currently, the largest global trade centres, i.e. the EU and the USA, are losing their share in global GDP. Their share in global exports and imports is decreasing to the advantage of BRICS countries. The simulation up to 2070 showed that the trends observed in previous years may be increasing, while the position of the EU and the USA in world trade may be weakening. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of this paper is to identify the level and changes in comparative advantages of the Polish agri-food sector on the US market in 2004–2017. The following indicators were used in the comparative advantage analysis: Balassa’s Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Vollrath’s Revealed Competitiveness (RC), the Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA) and the Lafay’s Trade Balance Index (TBI). A product mapping scheme based on the level of comparative advantage (RSCA) and export specialisation (TBI) was made. This study was supplemented with the analysis of values for the trade balance and shares of individual groups of products in the structure of Poland’s exports to the US. The analyses showed that, in the years 2004–2017, Poland attained high comparative advantages in trade with these assortment groups, which were characterised by the relatively highest shares in the structure of exports to the US, as well as generated a high and frequently improving positive trade balance. |

| Abstrakt | Poland and Turkey are one of the largest global producers and particularly exporters of fruits. The export is of great importance to domestic producers of these fruits. This paper attempts to assess Polish and Turkish fruit sectors’ competitiveness. For competitive comparison of Poland and Turkey, balance of foreign trade, trade coverage index, share in export and import, specialisation index, relative revealed comparative export advantage index, relative import penetration index, relative trade advantage index were calculated. According to the results, Turkey has shown to have comparative advantage for all periods. In contrast, however, Poland seems to be losing its advantages. Although Poland’s competitiveness is diminishing, Poland enjoys free access to EU market. |

| Abstrakt | The main purpose of this paper was to assess the openness of trade in food products in the context of changes in food security levels. The period covered by this study is 1995–2015. The research was based on outcomes reported by main players of the global market. The basic source of data were online databases and reports. Once collected, the data was analysed with the use of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Selected statistical methods, indices of structure and dynamics, indicators of economic openness and indicators related to three dimensions of security (availability, access and stability) were used. The analysis resulted in numerous conclusions. In the study period, food imports followed a global growth trend with alternating periods of contrasting developments. In the countries covered by this study, the openness of trade in food was higher than that of global imports and followed a growth trend. The singularities of the development of the agri-food sector were reflected in decreasing values of the exports-to-imports ratio, and were decisive for the positive growth rate of per capita agri-food output. According to the analysis of relationships between changes in trade levels and selected food security indicators, imports proved to be positively correlated with physical and economic availability, and negatively correlated with stability. Based on the results, a general conclusion may be drawn that economic growth resulted in structural changes which contributed to improving access to food. |

| Abstrakt | Dutch disease phenomenon can be observed in a country that discovers an important and substantial natural resource deposit and starts exporting it on a large scale. In consequence, the country’s currency appreciates reducing competitiveness of its traditional export sector, including agricultural sector. The Dutch disease is considered to be one of the most significant reasons for the natural resource curse. The aim of the paper is to consolidate a growing literature on the Dutch disease and to provide theoretical framework for analysing this phenomenon. It refers to both developed and developing oil-exporting countries. The paper stresses the fact that the vulnerability to the Dutch disease depends strongly on economic policy, political regime and quality of institutions. |

| Abstrakt | Celem pracy była ocena warunków środowiskowo-ekonomicznych uprawy jabłek w Polsce, w tym warunków glebowo-klimatycznych, poziomu produkcji i jej opłacalności oraz struktury zagospodarowania na podstawie materiałów źródłowych za pomocą metody opisowej i porównawczej. Polska ze względu na swoje dobre warunki glebowo-klimatyczne jest największym producentem jabłek w Unii Europejskiej i jednym z większych w skali świata. W strukturze zagospodarowania tych owoców dominuje przetwórstwo (produkcja soku zagęszczonego), następnie export i bezpośrednie spożycie. Zwiększenie wartości współczynnika opłacalności produkcji jabłek wymaga stałej optymalizacji warunków uprawy, wprowadzenia koncepcji logistyki do sprawnego zarządzania zaopatrzeniem, produkcją i dystrybucją oraz poszukiwania nowych rynków zbytu i efektywnych sposobów zagospodarowania nadpodaży owoców. |
| Abstract | The aim of this paper was to assess the environmental and economic conditions of apple cultivation in Poland, including soil and climate conditions, production level and its profitability, the structure of management based on source materials using a descriptive and comparative method. Due to good soil and climatic conditions, Poland is the largest producer of apples in the EU and one of the largest in the world. In the utilization structure of these fruits is dominated by food processing (especially production of concentrated juice), followed by export and direct consumption. Increasing the values of profitability production index, requires optimization of cultivation conditions, introduction of the logistics concept for efficient management of supply, production and distribution as well as searching for new markets and effective ways of managing the oversupply of fruit. |

W artykule zidentyfikowano najważniejszych producentów oraz importerów netto z WNP. Przy wykorzystaniu mierników pozycji konkurencyjnej ex-post określono pozycję konkurencyjną eksportu z Polski na wybrane rynki WNP. W latach 2006-2016 Polska była największym dostawcą jabłek na Białoruś, do Kazachstanu oraz na Ukrainę, a w latach 2006-2014 również do Rosji. Pozycja konkurencyjna eksportu jabłek z Polski obniżyła się w latach 2015-2016 na rynku białoruskim, a wzrosła na kazachskim i ukraińskim. W wyniku embarga na import jabłek z UE, wzrosła na rynku Federacji Rosyjskiej pozycja konkurencyjna dostaw z Serbii, Chin, Mołdawii oraz Białorusi. |
| Abstract | The aim of the research was to determine the competitiveness of apple export from Poland to the CIS markets. In the paper the most important producers and net importers of apples from CIS were identified. Using the ex-post measures, the competitive position of Polish exports to selected CIS markets was determined. In 2006-2016, Poland was the largest supplier of apples to Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and in 2006-2014 to Russia as well. The competitive position of apple exports from Poland decreased in the years 2014-2015 on the Belarusian market, and increased in the Kazakh and Ukrainian. As a result of the Russian embargo on the import of apples from the EU, the competitive position of supplies from Serbia, China, Moldova and Belarus increased in this market. |

| Abstrakt | Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie polskiego rynku kurzego w latach 2012-2017 w kontekście zmian w handlu zagranicznym produktami kurzymi. W celu weryfikacji hipotezy wykorzystano metody statystyki opisowej (analizę porównawczą w czasie, analizę struktury, liniową funkcję trendu). W badanym okresie obserwuje się tendencję do powiększania się dodatniego salda obrotów handlowych mięsem, podrobami i przetworami kurzymi, natomiast saldo drobiem żywym było ujemne. W latach 2012-2017 przy znacznym wzroście pogłowia kur (oprócz niosek), wystąpił ponad 58% wzrost ich ubojów oraz ponad dwukrotnie zwiększył się eksport produktów kurzych (drób kurzy żywy, mięso, podroby i przetwory). W eksporcie i w spożyciu dominują produkty kurze, a na drugim miejscu są produkty indycze. Produkcja żywca kurzego jest bardzo skoncentrowana. |
| Abstract | The main goal of the article is to present the Polish chicken market in 2012-2017 in the context of changes in foreign trade in chicken products. In order to achieve the goal, the methods of descriptive statistics (comparative analysis over time, structure analysis, linear trend function) were used. In the analyzed period, there is a tendency to increase the positive balance of trade in meat, offal and chicken preserves, while the balance of live poultry was negative. In the years 2012-2017, with a significant increase in the stock of chickens (except laying hens), there was over 58% increase in their slaughter, and the export of chicken products (live hens, meat, offal, preserves) increased more than twice. In export and consumption, chicken products dominate, followed by turkey products. The production of live chicken is very concentrated. |

| Abstrakt | W latach 1980-2016 światowy rynek piwa charakteryzował się wysoką dynamiką rozwoju. Produkcja i obroty handlu zagranicznego znacząco wzrosły. Istotny wpływ miały na to procesy globalizacyjne. Światowa produkcja piwa jest zdominowana przez duże koncerny browarnicze, ale w ostatnich latach ich udział w rynku zmniejszył w związku z rozwojem produkcji w małych browarach. Rosnąca produkcja piwa generuje duży popyt na surowce wytwarzane w działach pierwotnego przetwórstwa żywności (słód, ekstrakt chmielowy, cukier). Na polskim rynku piwa były obserwowane analogiczne tendencje. Duże bezpośrednie inwestycje zagraniczne, koncentracja struktur podmiotowych i w konsekwencji dynamiczny wzrost produkcji i eksportu. Na krajowym rynku także wzrasta produkcji w małych browarach. |
| Abstract | Over the period of 1980-2016 the world beer market showed a dynamic development. Both the production and foreign trade volumes considerably increased, which largely resulted from globalisation processes. The production of beer in the world is dominated with large brewing companies. However in recent years their share contracted due to expansion of small-scale brewing. Growing production of beer generates demand for raw materials (malt, hops extract, sugar). The world tendencies were mirrored on the Polish market. Large foreign direct investments along with concentration of production triggered a dynamic growth of production and exports. The share of small breweries in Poland has recently been growing as well. |
