Abstract	Some possible scenarios of Polish agri-food trade development are presented in the paper.Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP), a computable general equilibrium model, was used to makesome trade forecasts. The analysis showed that escalation of agricultural trade liberalization can resultin a decrease of Polish exports as well as in imports growth and finally bring a deterioration in thepositive agri-food trade balance

Abstrakt	Celem pracy było przedstawienie zmian w wielkości i strukturze produkcji oraz eksportuprzetworów z owoców i warzyw w Polsce w latach 1993-2005. W analizowanym okresie zwiększyłasię zarówno wielkość produkcji przetworów z owoców jak i z warzyw. Do rozwoju przetwórstwaowocowo-warzywnego w Polsce przyczynił się niewątpliwie eksport, którego udział w produkcjiprzetworów owocowych sięgał 62%, a przetworów warzywnych 46%.
Abstract	The aim of his paper was to present changes in the amount and structure of fruit andvegetable processing industry production and export in Poland, in years 1993-2005. Both theproduction of processed vegetables and processed fruit has increased in the analyzed period. About62% of the processed fruit was exported and in case of the processed vegetables it was about 46%.

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono proces restrukturyzacji sektora mleczarskiego w Polsce. Na podstawie danych statystycznych oraz badań jakościowych przeanalizowano najważniejsze zmiany, które nastąpiły w poszczególnych segmentach tego sektora. Szczególnie dynamiczny proces charakteryzował segment produkcji i przetwórstwa mleka. Obok zmian w strukturze, jakości oraz marketingu mleka i produktów mleczarskich, przeobrażeniu uległo także otoczenie instytucjonalne, w którym działają rolnicy oraz mleczarnie. Dostosowania w gospodarstwach rolnych były stymulowane w znacznym stopniu przez przetwórców, których dostosowania wynikały z kolei z procesu integracji z Unią Europejską, a wśród nich należy wskazać przede wszystkim wzrost wymagań jakościowych oraz konieczność działania na rynku krajowym i eksportowym. Dodatkowo, wprowadzony system kwotowania produkcji mleka jest, zdaniem autorów, jednym z najważniejszych czynników determinujących tempo i zakres przyszłej restrukturyzacji.
Abstract	The paper aims to discuss the nature of restructuring of the Polish dairy sector. Using both national statistics and qualitative data collected at the regional level, the most important changes that have taken place in particular stages of the supply chain were presented . The most significant and advanced changes have been observed at the farm and industry levels. These have substantially affected not only the production sphere, but also marketing practices and the whole institutional environment within which farmers and processors function. To a large extent, an adjustment process at the farm level was stimulated by the processors, who have been encouraged to pursue restructuring by the ongoing process of Poland’s integration in the EU. Strict quality standards, a prerequisite for operating on the export and domestic markets, have been of special importance. The milk quota system is likely to become the most decisive factor determining the pace and scope of future restructuring, as the limits set by the European Commission becomes more perceptible.

Abstract	The paper presents an analysis of exports and imports of fish and fish products in terms of their value (thousand of USD) in the so called ‘old EU member states’ (15 countries) and ‘new member states’ (10 countries). The acquired information and data made it possible to identify changes in the value of world trade in fish and fish products, to estimate the exports and imports as well as the balance of trade in the above groups of countries. The share of the EU(15) memeber states and the newly accepted ones in the world exports and imports of fish and fish products as well as the impact of the EU extension on the worldwide and regional trade in fish and fish products is presented.

Abstrakt
Abstract	Production, consumption and Polish foreign trade in milk and dairy products in years 1990- 2005 have been presented. In the analysed period growing trends in production of dairy products, foreign trade and consumption of cheese were observed, moreover, decreasing consumption of butter and milk have been recorded. Since 1991 the Polish trade balance in dairy products remained positive. In 2005 total milk and dairy products export reached 880 millions EUR and import was 98,6 millions EUR. The EU countries become the most significant purchasers of Polish dairy products. In 2005 they reached more than 75% share in the total value of Polish dairy exports (in 2001 share this share was 26,9% and 40,5% in 2003).

Abstrakt	Szczegółowa analiza polskiej produkcji rolnej i skali eksportu powinna być prowadzona na tle wielkości unijnych, zwłaszcza struktur ukształtowanych w krajach Piętnastki. Rozważania takie mogą stanowić podstawę do oceny szans rozwoju produkcji żywności i perspektyw polskiego rolnictwa, głownie w wyniku zwiększania handlu zagranicznego. Polska przeznacza na eksport zdecydowanie mniejszy odsetek swojej produkcji (zbóż, buraków cukrowych w przeliczeniu na cukier, ziemniaków, wieprzowiny, wołowiny, drobiu, jaj oraz mleka) niż pozostałe kraje UE-15, co może świadczyć o możliwości zwiększania zarówno produkcji, jak i eksportu produktów pochodzenia rolniczego.
Abstract	Detailed analysis of Polish agricultural production and scale of export should be considered on the background of quantities traded in the EU, especially in the EU-15 countries. Those considerations could be a basis for evaluation of chances of developing the food production and for predictions of the development of Polish agriculture, mainly as a result of an increase in foreign trade. Definitely smaller share of Polish production (cereals, sugar beats as sugar equivalent, potatoes, pig meat, bovine, poultry, eggs and milk) is allocated to exports than in the other EU-15 countries. This indicates a possibility of increase of production as well as of exports of agricultural products

Abstract	Food safety and quality are main issues in food economics. The first part of this paper deals with food quality in Poland before and after the process of integration with the EU. The conducted analysis have confirmed the improvement of Polish food quality. The sanitary conditions of Polish processing plants have also improved. But the concentration of nitrates is still very high in some vegetable products. The second part contains an analysis of the Polish exports and imports and their changes in the economic transition process. Wheat imports were higher than exports. In addition to this, the survey proved that Poland is self-sufficient in food production and food safety has improved in the transition period

Abstrakt
Abstract	The paper aims to evaluate whether or not the last EU enlargement to the new 10 member states (EUN-10) has influenced the intra EU trade of agricultural products. In particular, the analysis focuses on the effects on trade between two groups of countries EU-15 and EUN-8 (i.e. the Central-Eastern Europe new members countries) of the EU-accession process. The import-export flows show a noticeable increase in trade between the two areas over the last decade. This increase surely stems from the opening up process, but according to second best theory in international trade which applies to Customs Unions – it not necessarily favours efficiency as far as social welfare is concerned. The analysis shows also that the comparative advantages in certain products, which ten years ago fuelled trade, do not appear to have altered the position of the two groups of countries. Focusing on agricultural products the integration process, which was already underway during the pre-accession period, has maintained and not reduced their specific specialization.

The authors analyze situation in meat production in the Republic of Belarus and give their opinion thereupon. The present conditions are unfavourable and the volume of meat production is falling. It is necessary for the government to assist meat producers.

Abstract	The GATT agreement was the first to include agriculture and to cover both border protection and domestic and export subsidies for agricultural products. The round completed successfully in 1994. The subsequent Doha or Development round aimed at furthering progress launched in GATT has not been so successful. This paper explores why the Doha round has been difficult and why it now appears there will not be a meaningful agreement. Developing countries are much more numerous today in WTO, and they insist on an agreement to better their situation. Agricultural subsidies are still a major impasse between rich and poor countries. The absence of the industrial sector to balance agriculture also is an impediment. Furthermore, bilateral and regional agreements have made much more progress and provide many of the gains that might eventually come from a multilateral agreement. Recent work has concluded that domestic reforms are key to achieving the gains of any trade agreement, and they will be essential for Poland to capture the gains from EU membership

Abstract	Poland is the largest producer of apples in Europe. Statistical analysis of data concerning harvests, yields, age and varieties of apple trees shows the Polish leader position. Visible changes in the new apple orchards are responding to the preferences of modern consumers. Russia and the European Union are main recipients of Polish apples. Though consumer apples are dominating in the structure of sales, also industrial apples and apple concentrate will be supplementing Polish exports abroad in the near future.

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono zmiany w zakresie finansowania wspólnej polityki rolnej i rozwoju obszarów wiejskich, w nowym okresie budżetowym 2007-2013. Zwrócono uwagę na fundusze, cele i możliwości wsparcia finansowego w ramach wytycznych, przyjętych przez Komisję Europejską. Pokazano także możliwości sfinansowania instrumentów w ramach Europejskiego Funduszu Rolnego Gwarancji (EFRG) a także działań Europejskiego Funduszu Rolnego na rzecz Rozwoju Obszarów Wiejskich (EFRROW).
Abstract	A fundamental reform of the Common Agricultural Policy was decided in June 2003. The reform is aimed at meeting the objectives of competitiveness, solidarity and better integration of environmental concerns, thus becoming a key step in the Lisbon and Goeteborg development strategy. It involves: a substantial simplification of the market support measures and direct payments, further strengthening the development of rural areas by transferring funds from market support to rural development through reductions in direct payments to bigger farms, strengthening of the financial discipline mechanism between 2007-2013. The European Commission created two new funds for financing the CAP: European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). EAGF will finance: intervention measures to regulate agricultural markets, refunds for exporting farm produce to non-EU countries, and direct payments to farmers. EAFRD will finance the expenditure on rural development programmes.

Abstrakt	Celem pracy było porównanie wybranych elementów rynku mięsa drobiowego w Polsce i w pozostałych krajach członkowskich Unii Europejskiej w latach 1961-2003. Zebrano dane statystyczne z FAOSTAT-u i obliczono podstawowe statystyki, a także wskaźniki uzależnienia od importu. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że zarówno w Polsce jak i w pozostałych krajach UE wzrastało spożycie mięsa drobiowego, w Polsce szczególnie na niekorzyść mięsa wołowego. Największym importerem drobiu jest Wielka Brytania, a eksporterem Holandia. Najmniej drobiu importuje i eksportuje Malta.
Abstract	The aim of the paper was to compare selected elements of poultry meat market in Poland and in the other European Union countries in years 1961 through 2003. The statistical data were collected from FAOSTAT. Basic trade statistics and the dependence on imports were calculated. It turned out that both in Poland and in the other EU countries the consumption of the chicken meat grew up, in Poland particularly replacing the consumption of beef meat. Great Britain is the largest importer of poultry and the largest exporter is the Netherlands. Malta imports and exports the least amounts of poultry.

Abstrakt	Opracowanie zawiera analizę polskiego handlu zagranicznego zbożami i ich przetworami w latach 2003 - I kwartał 2006 z uwzględnieniem struktury towarowej, geograficznej i uwarunkowań handlu po integracji z Unią Europejską. W latach 2003 – 2005 udział zbóż i produktów ich przetwórstwa stanowił średnio 7,5% w ogólnej wartości eksportu rolno-spożywczego i 7,2% w wartości importu. Wartość eksportu zbóż wykazywała tendencję wzrostową, a około 70% eksportu stanowiły produkty zbożowe wysoko przetworzone
Abstract	The paper presents an analysis of Polish foreign trade in cereals and cereal products in 2003 through the first quarter of 2006, including breakdown by product and geographical destination as well as trade conditions after the Polish accession to the European Union. In the years 2003 through 2005 cereals and cereal products amounted to 7.5% of the total agro-food export value, and 7.2% of imports. Value of cereal exports increased through time. Moreover, 70% of exports represented highly processed cereal products.

Abstract	The author deals with Polish foreign trade in agricultural products with the East (Eastern Europe, Middle and Far East). Polish exports in the last two years have increased. The analysis starts with presentation of exports to the so-called Community of Independent States (Russia and former Soviet Republics). Recent barriers in exports to Russia and Ukraine are indicated. A general picture of trade with Middle and Far East Countries is presented and the main constraints in trade are listed.

Abstrakt	Celem badań było określenie zmian na rynku trzody chlewnej w Polsce po rozszerzeniu UE. Badania wykazały, że w Polsce występuje powolny proces koncentracji produkcji, który uwidacznia się w powiększaniu dużych stad. Po rozszerzeniu UE wzrósł udział krajów unijnych w polskim handlu zagranicznym wieprzowiną. Zmieniły się formy interwencji na rynku trzody chlewnej. Podstawą wsparcia stało się dotowanie eksportu oraz prywatnego przechowywania wieprzowiny. Po akcesji Polski do UE odnotowano zmiany cen skupu trzody chlewnej. Początkowo w 2004 roku były one wysokie, ale już na początku 2006 roku należały do najniższych w UE. Objęcie Polski Wspólną Polityka Rolną sprzyja wzrostowi produkcji żywca wieprzowego i prowadzi do powstania nadwyżki eksportowej. W celu jej sprzedaży konieczne są działania promocyjne oraz poszukiwanie nowych rynków zbytu.
Abstract	The aim of research was to specify changes in the pigs market in Poland after the EU extension. Research shows that a slow process of concentration of production takes place in Poland, which is revealed by an increase in number of big herds. Participation of member countries in the Polish foreign trade in pork has grown after the extension of EU. Forms of interventions have been changed in the pig market. Subsidizing of export and private storage of pork has become the base of support. Price changes in pig purchases after the Polish accession to EU have been noticed. The prices were high initially in 2004, but they belonged to lowest in Europe already at the beginning of 2006. Accession and including Poland into CAP promote pork production and leads to creation of export surplus. Promotional operations seeking new markets are indispensable for its sale.

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono stan obecny i perspektywy przetwórstwa oraz handlu i spożycia mleka i produktów mlecznych. W latach 2003-2005 polskie mleczarstwo rozwijało się dynamicznie, postępowały przemiany strukturalne w przetwórstwie i handlu, nastąpił skokowy wzrost eksportu, zwłaszcza do UE, kontynuowany był spadkowy trend spożycia mleka i przetworów. W przyszłości należy spodziewać się stagnacji przerobu na poziomie ustalonym przez kwotę mleczną, kontynuacji przemian strukturalnych, ograniczania eksportu na rzecz stopniowo rosnącego popytu krajowego i w konsekwencji stopniowego zrównywania się wielkości importu z eksportem, być może nawet Polska stanie się importerem netto. Wyrównujące się ceny surowca w poszerzonej UE oraz niska wydajność pracy wskazują na potrzebę redukcji przerostów zatrudnienia w celu utrzymania konkurencyjności polskiego mleczarstwa.
Abstract	The paper presents the current state and prospects of a dairy processing, trade and milk consumption in Poland. In the period 2003-2005 there were observed following features: fast growth of Polish dairy sector, structural changes in dairy processing and trade, soar of export and decline of consumption. In the future there could be predicted stagnation of the scope of milk processed, further structural changes, decline of export according to the gradual increase of domestic demand. Polish dairy competitive advantage based on cheap raw milk is gradually going away. Law labour efficiency suggests, that labour reduction is needed for the industry to be still competitive in the future.
