| Słowa kluczowe | organic production, direct costs, profitability, Poland |
| Key words | organic production, direct costs, profitability, Poland |
| Abstrakt | Studies on the economics of agricultural production in organic farms are carried out on a small scale but deliver important information about the situation of organic agricultural producers. The aim of this paper is to examine the economic and production results of organic farms cultivating winter wheat and winter rye in relation to the results of conventional farms (by way of case study). The paper used actual accounting data collected in the Agrokoszty system and Polish FADN and direct interviews with organic farmers. For detailed comparison of the economic results the methodology of calculating gross margin was used. When compared to conventional farms, the winter wheat and winter rye production results were weaker in organic farms, and a lower yield of grain was demonstrated. The selling price of organic grain was more favourable only for winter wheat. The surveyed farmers indicate the will to continue organic production. However, it is necessary to develop the organic product market and for further financial support for this production sector. |

| Key words | Russia, beef market, self-sufficiency |
Do pomiaru dynamiki wykorzystano indeksy o stałej i zmiennej podstawie. |
| Abstract | The aim of the analysis is to identify the key changes that occurred on the Russian beef market in the years 1990-2017. The research covered all elements of the market. The basis for the assessment data were taken from the Russian Statistical Yearbooks and from the US Foreign Agricultural Service USDA. Dynamics were indexed on fixed and variable bases. The analysis allows to conclude that all elements of the market were reduced during the period under consideration. The beef population and production as well as its imports and consumption decreased. This happened despite the support from the state. This support (subsidies) is relatively small compared to the support of pig or poultry farming. However, it allowed to create the basis of beef cattle breeding and its development in the long term. |

| Słowa kluczowe | agrobiznes, handel zagraniczny, wydajność pracy, struktura agrobiznesu, Ukraina |
| Key words | agribusiness, foreign trade, labor productivity, agribusiness structure, Ukraine |
| Abstract | The article attempts to compare the importance of agribusiness in the economy in Ukraine and Poland. The analysis covered the years 2001-2015. The data came from official statistical sources. It was found that the importance of agribusiness to the Polish economy decreased over the entire period considered, its share in GVA in whole economy in 2015 was 6%, while in Ukraine it was as much as 15% and in recent years has been increasing. Agrobusiness also had a high share in exports. In Poland, it was 15, and in Ukraine as much as 38% in 2015. The employment structure in agribusiness was dominated by employment in agriculture with a share of about 80% in both countries. The internal structure of agribusiness was more modern in Poland, where as much as 58% of gross value added of agribusiness was generated in the food processing sector. In Ukraine, it was only 24%. The importance of agribusiness in the Ukrainian economy was higher than in Poland, it also has there a more raw character. The bigger potential for further development of agribusiness is in Ukraine, due to the large agricultural land resources and the large potential for increased production and processing of food and its exports. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of this paper is to identify the role and importance of pro-investment mechanisms within the CommonAgricultural Policy in the reproduction of farm assets in countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Theexperimental material comprised unpublished microdata of farms originating from the FADN database of theEuropean Commission (data source: EU-FADN – DG AGRI). The time frame covered the years 2004–2015.Among all the farms selected for analyses only those ensuring data continuity throughout the entire investigatedperiod were used in the study. In each of the studied countries farms were divided into two groups: thegroup of beneficiaries of CAP pro-investment funds and the control group. For each farm the value of fixedassets was determined (excluding the value of land) and next the mean value for each group was calculatedin an individual country. The study showed that in most investigated countries both farms being and thosenot being beneficiaries of CAP pro-investment mechanisms are capable of reproducing their fixed assets;nevertheless, it is the farms receiving financial support for their investments that show a capacity to increasethe value of their fixed assets. |

| Abstrakt | The article gives an economic assessment of the current state of the grain industry development, determinesthe main factors influencing the formation of demand and supply on the grain market. The lack of efficiencyof the mechanism of regulation of the grain market in Ukraine is substantiated on the basis of the obtainedvalues of “market price support” indicators per 1 t of grain and “nominal coefficient of protection of producers”used in the countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Theforecasts of gross collections of cereals and legumes, as well as their volumes of domestic consumption inUkraine for the period up to 2025 are estimated. The state of transport and logistics infrastructure of the grainmarket of Ukraine is estimated. Based on the analysis carried out, strategic guidelines for the development ofthe grain market and its regulation mechanism are proposed. |

| Abstrakt | The article discusses the shortcomings of tax policy in the agrarian sector of the economy of Ukraine, whichhas created non-competitive conditions for small farms. Large agricultural enterprises in Ukraine use theexisting special tax regime as an optimization of tax liabilities. This has led to such negative economic, social and environmental consequences as the development of landlands, the deterioration of agriculturallandscapes, the increase in export-oriented production, the growth of unemployment in the village and themigration of the rural population. While small farms, without state support, provide the population with basicfoodstuffs. The purpose of the article is evidence of the use of a special tax regime only for small farms, basedon an analysis of the special tax treatment regime in Polish agriculture and an analysis of the differential rentmethodology laid down in the basis of a special tax regime, as well as the development of practical recommendationsfor Ukraine. |

| Abstrakt | The processing of organic products in Poland develops, the number of organic entities increases and there arechanges in the structure in individual industries. The aim of this article was to evaluate the trends and the degreeof changes that have occurred in the number of processing plants and the structure of organic processing industriesin Poland in the years 2004–2017. The analysis covered eight industries of processing organic products.Over thirteen years, there has been a steady increase in the number of organic processing plants, despite thelow amount of organic production and the lack of developed and sustainable forms of cooperation at variouslevels – from the producer to the consumer. The low consumption of organic products (compared to Europeancountries) also shows down and shapes changes that occur in the structure in particular processing sectors. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of this article was to answer the question – do integrated fruit and vegetable producers act in accordancewith the assumptions of “the logic of collective actions” by Olson, or want to increase the marketorganisation level, as suggested by Docian Ciolos, increasing the number of existing groups/organisations?Basing on a library query, the assumptions of the “logic of collective actions” are presented. Using the dataprovided by the European Commission, a significant negative relationship was found between the averagesize of the group/organisation and its effectiveness. In addition, there was a regress of organising the fruitand vegetable market in the European Union. Therefore, it is suggested that according to the assumptions ofMancur Olson’s theory, selective stimuli (institutional support) motivating members of groups/organisationsto produce a common good that can be, i.a., overcoming the barrier of production scale or competitivenessof the sector should be applied. |

| Abstract | In the economic history of the world, sugar is considered one of the first global products, and the supply-demand in the global market has had a major impact on the development of local markets. The Polish sugar sector has been under the influence of the world market for many years. The reform of the sugar market regulation system in the EU has made the EU and domestic markets increasingly dependent on the world market. The production potential of the domestic sugar industry is greater than the demand on the internal market and the excess supply is directed to exports. The global market is characterized by cyclical fluctuations, which are determined by the cyclical nature of sugar cane cultivation. The length of the business cycle has been reduced to 2-3 years. The world market prices affect domestic sales and export prices and the financial performance of the sugar industry. |

| Słowa kluczowe | environment, life cycle analysis, impact category indicator, compound feed, feed mill, Poland |
| Key words | environment, life cycle analysis, impact category indicator, compound feed, feed mill, Poland |
| Abstrakt | In recent years, the importance of environmental threats associated with intensive livestock production has been emphasized. Compound feeds make up a part of the animal production chain. A complete assessment of the animal production system with regard to environmental criteria is therefore impossible without considering the environmental consequences of feed production. The goal of this research is to fill the gap in an environmental assessment of production processes of compound feeds in Poland. The study presents an assessment of production impacts of bovine compound feeds according to Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) methodology. The data for analysis were based on the set of information obtained from the feed milling plant located in a commercial agricultural enterprise in the Wielkopolska region in the years 2015-2016. An inventory table of inputs was prepared in relation to the functional unit of 1 ton of compound feeds and two phases of production processes, i.e. upstream and core. For average compound feed, the impact category indicators for the global warming potential, acidification, eutrophication, photochemical ozone formation, consumption of mineral resources, fossil fuel resources and the emission of the respirable particles were respectively: 605.9 kg CO2 eq, 8.73 kg SO2 eq, 3.32 kg PO4 eq, 0.73 kg ethylene eq, 3.4x10-3 kg antimony eq, 5141.1 MJ and 2.25 kg PM2.5 eq. The upstream phase had the greatest effect on investigated impacts, while the core processes phase had a relatively low impact on environmental threats. It is recommended to broaden the scope of the research for a larger group of feed milling plants with more complex manufacturing processes, with a more branched supply structure and a wide range of compound feeds for different animal types. The obtained data can be a valuable source base in prospective analyses of the life cycle of various animal products in Poland. |

| Key words | animal production, results of agricultural production, resource efficiency in agriculture |
| Abstract | The aim of the study is to assess the results of managing production resources in farms focused on animal production, which were covered by agricultural accounting in the FADN system in 2016. The analysis covered the production and economic results as well as the productivity and profitability of land, labor and capital resources of farms focused on dairy cattle, swine and slaughter cattle, sheep and goats. The results of the researched farms presented in the study point to a significantly higher level of production and economic results as well as resource management efficiency in pig farms, especially in relation to farms keeping cattle for slaughter, sheep and goats, which resulted from their larger scale and intensity of production. Farms specializing in slaughter of cattle, sheep and goats obtained a negative economic result, therefore subsidies for the operation of such farms were conditioned by their positive final result and economic efficiency of resource management. |

| Title | Debt Versus Production Potential as Well as Production and Economic Results of Commodity Farms |
| Słowa kluczowe | kapitał obcy, potencjał produkcyjny, wyniki produkcyjno-ekonomiczne, towarowe gospodarstwo rolne, test U Manna-Whitney’a |
| Key words | debt, production potential, production and economic results, commodity farm, U Mann-Whitney rank sum test |
Do oceny istotności różnic rozkładów zastosowano test sumy rang U Manna-Whitney'a. |
| Abstract | The aim of the research is to find an answer to the question: Does the use of debt by commodity farms contribute to the increase of production potential and improvement of production and economic conditions? The research was based on data collected as part of the Polish FADN for 2015. The research sample consisted of 12021 commodity farms, of which almost half (48.61%), apart from equity also used external sources of financing agricultural activity. To describe the features characterizing the studied entities, positional measures were used due to strong asymmetry. The U Mann-Whitney rank sum test was used to assess the significance of differences in distributions. The obtained research results indicate the existence of significant differences in production potential as well as production and economic efficiency of commodity farms financing agricultural activity with debt and farms that use only own capital. Entities that use debt to finance agricultural activities, apart from equity, are characterized by a higher production potential and obtain higher production and economic results than farms using only equity. |

| Abstrakt | The present study demonstrates the reasons for the foundation of tea plantations and conditions of their cultivation. The limitations and negative consequences of cultivation of tea plants along with the ideas for their minimization are shown. Plantations were created to optimize the harvest. However, it has been found that they negatively influence local ecosystems. The global demand for tea leaves is constantly growing. Due to the specific climate requirements of tea plants and progressive climate changes, the arable land area suitable for their cultivation is constantly decreasing. New solutions should be implemented as soon as possible, ensuring a constant supply of raw material. Otherwise, in the next few years tea may become a luxury product. FAO has presented the activities that could reduce the losses. At the moment, the best solution might be to change crop types and diversify sources of raw material. It is also highlighted that there is a need to carry out research aiming at developing varieties of Camella sinensis with lower climate requirements. |

| Abstrakt | As a result of concerns about the long-term sustainability of globalized retail trade and the stronger presence of health conscious consumer behaviour, governments and groups of conscious consumers worldwide are increasingly focusing on the promotion and development of local food systems and small-scale retail chains and the production of quality local food products to promote the market. In our paper, we would like to give an overview of community-led alternative types of local food systems, with particular attention to shopping community-type consumer and consumer communities. We also describe the main results of our primary research in the population and the shopping community. During the questionnaire we revealed general consumer behaviour and the demand and attitude of local food, the popularity of the customer communities in the settlement of the respondents. In the survey conducted among members of the consumer community, we looked at the analytical areas designated as a target in the population questionnaire for the purpose of comparability and our aim was to explore the sociometrics and lifestyles of communities as well as their community experiences and possible developments. Our hypothesis is that there is a close correlation between the respondents with higher education and income and the preferences of local food. Furthermore, it is assumed that there is a significant difference between the food consumption behaviors of the two samples examined. |

| Title | Effects of Certain Personal Attributes on Food Waste |
| Słowa kluczowe | food waste, consumer attitude, sustainable consumption |
| Key words | food waste, consumer attitude, sustainable consumption |
| Abstrakt | With the increase of food supply and the improvement of production processes, the real value of certain food products has been steadily declining over the past decades, which is certainly a trend that has seriously transformed the moral value of food, its role in society and its associated personal attitudes. According to UN and FAO estimates, in 2016, 30-35% of our food was wasted. Food waste in households is also a special area of research in terms of their high wasting rate. While exploring the causes of high amounts of consumer waste, a research group has also correlated (with mathematical models) the gradual growth rate of food waste, the US obesity epidemic and the growing supply of cheaper food products (Hall et al. 2009). In our research, we examine certain personal aspects in case of specific (e.g. functional) foods as well. A significant decrease in food waste coming from households could be attained by controlling our attitudes. Food waste, consumption awareness, eating habits, food mileage, water footprint, sustainable eating, energy efficiency: these are all terms which have to have their meaning and importance taught to people, as they contain important – affecting the level of wasting – information. Therefore, we can see that food waste itself is one of the most serious, paradoxical and global modern issues which the developed world has identified, and is trying to decrease by using national and international interventions in order to limit food supply anomalies and environmental loads as much as possible. Understanding personal attributes more precisely might be a good practice for providing future solutions, as well. |
