Taking this into consideration, the article analyses the housing status of the surveyed households, their housing conditions, the types of homes, and the households’ satisfaction with their place of residence. The paper presents selected examples of the CSR activities in the foodservice retailers.

Abstrakt	In Poland in recent years can be observed regional differences in investment activity among farmers. The largest capital expenditures in 2009–2011 were recorded in Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie voivodships. Thus the aim of this study is to try to characterize the tangible investments among agricultural holdings in Wielkopolskie voivodship in 2009–2011. Results of this study indicate that the expenditures in farms were directed in the first instance on machinery and equipment, regardless of the area of farms. In terms of value as well, dominated spending on machinery and equipment in each group of farms, with the highest percentage of expenditure on this type of investment allocate small farms (9– –20 ha).

Abstrakt	Exchange rate risk can be the source of both the extraordinary losses and gains. Hedge against exchange rate risk requires knowledge and cost. The exchange rate risk depends on the exchange rate regime. Among 10 members of the European Union in Central and Eastern Europe, four countries used af floating exchange rates (Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic), the other six countries have fixed exchange rate system or has been a common currency – the euro. In the group of countries most affected by the exchange rate risk is Poland, to a lesser extent, this applies to Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic. However, in the countries with a fixed exchange rate or a common currency, risk of changes in the euro/national currency does not exist. There was no significant effect of the exchange rate regime on the exports stability and imports stability. Average volatility of exports and imports of countries with floating and fixed exchange rate is at a similar level.

Abstrakt	Observed in recent years increased volatility of agricultural commodity prices caused greater exposure of market participants on the price risk. The rapeseed price volatility in Poland, measured by coefficient of variation increased significantly in the years 2008–2010. In the article, We presented the possibilities of using price stabilizing market tools, including commodity derivatives in price risk management on farms in Poland. By means of simulation method presented the potential economic effects obtained in hedging transactions of rapeseed selling prices at the Matif Euronext and ICE Futures Canada markets. The conclusion is that the hedging of rapeseed prices in the futures contracts on foreign futures markets is little effective and difficult.

Abstrakt	Production of fruits and vegetables in Poland is characterized by a high degree of fragmentation. Manufacturers have poor technical background and little use of modern technologies. In conjunction with the lack of use of marketing opportunities, Polish fruit and vegetable producers cannot compete on the global market. Taking joint cooperation through producer groups and organizations can be the solution to the problem. EU accession in 2004 was a accelerator for development of producer groups and organizations in Poland. Financial support from the Community, national funds and the evolution of EU and national legislation had a positive impact on cooperating manufacturers on Polish market during the analysed period. Data show the development of fruit and vegetable producer groups and organizations in Poland in the years 2004–2010, focusing on their legal form, size, cultivation area, volume and value of production.

Title	Recent Trends in the Financing of Environmental Protection in Poland

Abstrakt	The study addresses the issue of changes in the financing of environmental protection in Poland in 1997–2011. An evaluation of the spendings on certain types of fixed assets in the protection of the environment was made. The author indicated the extent of state participation in expenditures for environmental protection and the use of other sources of funding, such as the investor’s own funds or grants from environmental funds. It was found out that in 1999–2002 there was a significant decline in investments in environmental protection, which was mainly due to the worsening of the economic situation of many companies during this period. Since 2004, there is a slow but steady growth of expenditures on environmental protection, which has been associated with the use of funds for investment projects financed with EU funds.

Abstrakt	The process of modernization of agriculture under the Common Agricultural Policy has in view, among other things, the creation of economically stable and competitive farms. The aim of this paper is to verify the thesis that Poland’s membership in the European Union, implying a change in agricultural conditions, has resulted in diminishing the differences between farms. As a measure of diversification, confidence intervals for expected values were adopted. To assess the degree of differentiation in the farms’ development, the following criteria were applied: economic size of farms, net value added per a full-time employee, value of production, subsidies for operations. The number of farms over 16 ESU decreased, whilst the number of farms below the 8ESU increased. The research into farms, categorized by economic size, revealed increased diversity in terms of economic size and net value added per person. The production value showed decreased diversification of such agricultural activities as permanent crops and grain-fed animals.

Abstrakt	In this paper the level of fulfillment of pro-environmental functions by agriculture of the Lublin region is identified and examined. The significance of that function in the concept of sustainable agriculture is emphasized. Agriculture in Lublin region is characterized by lower level of mineral fertilization comparing to the whole country. Over 40% of the farms use crop rotation on the whole sowing area as well as fallow lands (the 6th region in the rank). As far as Lublin region’s agriculture is concerned, ecological production becomes an important element of rural production, comparing to other regions. Certified organic farms in Lublin region make 10% of the total number of organic farms in Poland, however this region is second in the rank of the absolute number of organic farms.

Abstract	The measurement of poverty depends on the definition, way of understanding and method of identifying the poor. The purpose of this article is to present the impact on the incidence and intensity of poverty in selected monetary poverty lines. The analysis was based on the data from Polish household budgets study carried out by Central Statistical Office of Poland in 2010. The analysis showed that the highest risk of poverty was related to households living on unearned sources of income, households in rural areas and households where household head had at most lower secondary education level.

Abstract	The changes in the size and geographical structure of cut roses production in the world as well as in EU foreign trade have been studied. The direction and dynamics of cut roses imports and exports and trade balance have been analyzed. The main focus was to determine the geographic structure of EU trade, identifying the largest EU exporters and importers, export destinations and countries of import origin. The prices of imported cut roses according to origin have been analyzed as well. The study shows that the roses production in EU, also in Poland, is not competitive comparing to cheaper flowers from Africa. Growing demand will be satisfied by growing imports.

Abstract	The quality of life is a problem of interdisciplinary character which can be examined including diverse aspects. Analysis of the objective quality of life of disabled people inhabited in country areas is an object of the present article’s interest. A measure of the objective quality of life of disabled people in the study are the housing conditions characterised through analysis of the usable area of households, number of rooms in the flat and the type of the house. The presented research material comes from research carried out as a part of the project co-financed by PFRON, concerning the determinants of the occupational activity of the disabled residing in rural areas. The primary data comes from examining a group of 5000 disabled persons from the whole Poland.

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono zróżnicowanie poziomu i dynamiki zmian cen dóbr konsumpcyjnych (głównie żywności) pomiędzy krajami europejskimi oraz zasugerowano możliwe wyjaśnienia tego zjawiska. Badanie ma na celu sprawdzenie, czy w państwach Unii Europejskiej (UE) oraz Unii Gospodarczej i Walutowej (UGiW) następuje proces konwergencji cen zgodny z prawem jednej ceny, oraz określenie przyczyn jej ewentualnego braku. Szeregi czasowe dotyczące relatywnych cen, indeksów cen i stóp inflacji pozyskano z OECD oraz Eurostatu. Jako okres badawczy przyjęto lata 1990-2012. Dla zobrazowania zmienności cen posłużono się odchyleniem standardowym oraz współczynnikami zmienności. Stwierdzono konwergencję sigma cen dóbr konsumpcyjnych (w tym żywności) pomiędzy nowymi krajami członkowskimi po ich przystąpieniu do UE oraz w zasadzie brak takiej konwergencji w krajach strefy euro. Wyniki na ogół nie potwierdzają konwergencji stóp inflacji cenowej dla grupy ‘żywność’ i jej podgrup w krajach UGiW.
Abstract	This paper investigates the cross-country disparity and convergence of consumer/food price levels in the European countries concentrating on the EU and EMU member states. The main objective of the study was to test whether consumer prices (including food prices) in the EU are converging towards the law of one price, and whether the EMU advent gave rise to increased convergence of prices and inflation rates in the Eurozone. The whole observation period runs from 1990 to 2012 with a particular focus on the period since the EMU creation in 1999 and the 2004 enlargement of the EU. We used a data set on consumer and food prices from the Eurostat- -OECD PPP Program, and monthly (year to year) estimates of the Harmonized Indices of Consumer Prices (Eurostat) and inflation rates (OECD) for the food group and its specific subgroups. Results indicate on wide differences in consumer/food price levels across the EU with Denmark having (in 2011) the highest price levels and Bulgaria, Poland and Romania having the lowest prices. Also the experience of food price inflation differs markedly across the EU both with respect to its levels and variability. After the accession to the EU, the Central and Eastern European countries experienced the convergence of consumer and food prices. Conversely, after the introduction of the euro, the price convergence across EMU members was nearly absent. The findings do not fully support the hypothesis of the convergence of inflation rates for food group and its subgroups.

Abstrakt	W pracy skoncentrowano się na ocenie potencjalnego wpływu wybranych programów WPR na rolnictwo w Polsce w latach 2004-2011. Analizowano powszechność wdrożenia oraz realną wartość transferów pakietów rolnictwo zrównoważone (RZ) i ochrona gleb i wód (OGiW) programu rolnośrodowiskowego (PRŚ) oraz płatności bezpośrednich (JPO) i ONW. Płatności bezpośrednie, ze względu na duży zasięg oddziaływania (87% gospodarstw uprawnionych), dominujący poziom transferowanych kwot i wymaganą zasadę zgodności środowiskowej (cross-compliance) miały relatywnie największe potencjalne oddziaływanie środowiskowe. Ważne znaczenie miały również płatności ONW (70% gospodarstw z ogółu gospodarstw uprawnionych). Programy rolnośrodowiskowe ze względu na relatywnie małe upowszechnienie oraz niski poziom transferowanych kwot nie mogły mieć potencjalnie dużego wpływu na rolnictwo w Polsce. Należy przypuszczać, że małe zainteresowanie niektórymi programami było powodowane niską i relatywnie malejącą atrakcyjnością stawek płatności.
Abstract	The aim of this article was the evaluation of the potential impact of selected programs of the Common Agricultural Policy on agriculture in Poland in the period 2004-2011. The widespread implementation and the real value of transfer packets in sustainable agriculture, soil and water protection of the agri-environmental program, the direct payments and LFA was analysed. Direct payments (87% farms over 1 ha UAA) and LFA (70% farms over 1 ha UAA) had the largest positive environmental effects. Direct payments (87%) and LFA (70%) have been very significant for beneficiaries. Due to relatively small-scale deployment and the low real value of transfer amounts, the agri-environmental program could not possibly have positive environmental effects in Poland.

Abstrakt	Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zmian zachodzących w rolnictwie Polski i Rosji jako przykładów odmiennych modeli rozwoju struktur w procesie globalizacji. Zwrócono uwagę na odmienność w warunkach makroekonomicznych i zróżnicowane ścieżki uzyskiwania równowagi makroekonomicznej naruszonej w wyniku transformacji ustrojowej. Scharakteryzowano zmiany zachodzące w rolnictwie na podstawie wskaźników: cen produktów żywnościowych, nożyc cenowych oraz parytetu dochodów gospodarstw rolnych. Omówiono przepływy strumieni retransferów kierowanych do rolnictwa w oparciu o metodykę pomiaru stosowaną przez Bank Światowy do oszacowania nadwyżki ekonomicznej. Zwrócono uwagę na dysproporcje pomiędzy retransferami do rolnictwa a przepływem nadwyżki ekonomicznej do pozarolniczych segmentów gospodarki. Wskazano na wyraźne zróżnicowanie w tej kwestii między Polską i Rosją będące wyrazem odmiennego modelu przekształceń rolnictwa.
Abstract	The aim of the article is the presentation of changes conditioning the economics of agriculture in Poland and Russia, using examples of different models of structural development which have conditioned globalization. Attention was paid to the dissimilarities which conditioned macroeconomics and differentiated paths of obtaining macroeconomic equilibrium which were violated as a result of constitutional transformation. One characterized change concerning agriculture was observed on the basis of the following indicators: prices of foodstuffs, price shears and the parity of earnings of farms. One discussed streams of re-transfers to agriculture based on the methodology of the measurement applied as a result of the World Bank’s appraisal of the economic surplus. Attention was paid to the imbalances among re-transfers to agriculture and the flow of the economic surplus to non-agricultural segments of the economy. Evidence shows imbalances in the considered countries resulting from different models of conversions in agriculture.
