Abstract	This paper aims to analyse, at a European level, the extent to which dispositions contained in Council Directive 91/676/CEE have been applied. The Directive aims to decrease water pollution directly or indirectly caused by nitrates from agricultural sources, and to prevent other similar pollution. The analysis considers the main pressure factors within the Member States, the state of their implementation at a European level and also puts forward suggestions which bear in mind the fact that Europe cannot give up its agricultural sector and that water is a limited resource which is necessary for human survival

Abstrakt
Abstract	The paper examines the impact of development of agricultural sector on performance of the cooperative banks in Poland in years 1997-2004. The levels of the agricultural development and the economic/financial situation of the banks were assessed by using country-level and regional-level aggregate indicators based on the factor analysis. The research results show that the type of region (i.e. voivodeship and macro-region) has a statistically significant impact both on the aggregate indicator of agricultural development and the aggregate indicator of banks’ performance. As for the relationship between the agricultural development level and the economic/financial situation of banks, statistically significant correlations were found only for four out of sixteen voivodeships.

Abstrakt
Abstract	Almost every professional sector has embarked on the move toward sustainability. European landscapes are facing rapid changes in land use, where understanding and management of this process is essential. Sustainability has become a widely acknowledged dimension of huma actions, but still little stress is put on education in sustainability. This paper identifies focus of education, gives suggestions for improvements and presents a new tool for education and training in sustainable land use – “Route Planner”. As results, it provides all users with new interesting facts on sustainability in the European Union and additional materials related to sustainable land use and Sustainability Impact Assessments (SIA). Users got the access to updated information regarding approximately 3000 courses on offer in this topic area throughout the European Union as well as case studies to compare sustainability practices in these countries in comparison to other parts of the world. Furthermore the end result of the information chain also leads the user to a collection of links such as interesting websites and further reading in the topic area

Abstrakt
Abstract	Article is devoted to studying of unemployment as a negative social and economic phenomenon in the life of a society. As the growth of the given parameter conducts to the shortage of produce. The structure of the unemployed according to the sex both in Grodno region, and across Belarus specifies prevalence of ‘female’ unemployment. A problem there is employment of youth. The disturbing tendency is traced at studying the structure of the age of the unemployed: the greatest share of the unemployed falls at the most productive age of 20-29 and 30-49 years. In the small regional centers the rate of unemployment is higher than in the large cities. This is connected with an absence of workplaces, backwardness of the real sector of economy, a weak level of development of social services. Therefore the state policy of employment aspires to provide equal opportunities to all physically fit citizens of Belarus, gives social guarantees and indemnifications to the unemployed, etc.

Abstract	The characteristic feature of the recent times is the high rate of change in an economical environment of agricultural enterprises. That significant process is mainly expressed by high rate of wages growth in non-agricultural sectors and increase of agricultural input prices, while there is observed the simultaneous stagnation, even decrease of agricultural produce prices. That facts influence therefore decrease of unit profitability of agricultural production and farm income diminishment. The main and even the only way for the farmers adjustment to the new reality is an increase of economical labor efficiency, which they can achieve through growth of farm size due to leasing of agricultural land. Abstract	The GATT agreement was the first to include agriculture and to cover both border protection and domestic and export subsidies for agricultural products. The round completed successfully in 1994. The subsequent Doha or Development round aimed at furthering progress launched in GATT has not been so successful. This paper explores why the Doha round has been difficult and why it now appears there will not be a meaningful agreement. Developing countries are much more numerous today in WTO, and they insist on an agreement to better their situation. Agricultural subsidies are still a major impasse between rich and poor countries. The absence of the industrial sector to balance agriculture also is an impediment. Furthermore, bilateral and regional agreements have made much more progress and provide many of the gains that might eventually come from a multilateral agreement. Recent work has concluded that domestic reforms are key to achieving the gains of any trade agreement, and they will be essential for Poland to capture the gains from EU membership

Abstrakt	Przystąpienie Polski do Unii Europejskiej spowodowało, że produkcja rolnicza oraz rynki produktów żywnościowych podlegają zwiększonemu zakresowi interwencjonizmu i konkurencyjności oraz wymaganiom jakościowym. Uwarunkowania te zostały narzucone przez prawodawstwo unijne. Gospodarstwa rolnicze oraz przedsiębiorstwa przetwórstwa spożywczego muszą dostosować swoje zakłady do nowej sytuacji w celu utrzymywania istniejących możliwości produkcyjnych oraz pozyskania nowych rynków zbytu. Wymaga to przygotowania takich rozwiązań modelowych, które będą gwarantować wysoką efektywność alokacji środków finansowych prywatnych i publicznych w całym sektorze rolnym.
Abstract	After the accession to the EU Polish agriculture and agricultural markets have become subject to intesified state interventions, competition and quality requirements. Farms and food processingf industry must adapt to the new conditions in order to acquire access to the new markets and maintain their level of production. New model of economic activity is needed for ensuring the efficiency of public and private funds allocation in the agricultural sector.

W procesach tych aktywnie uczestniczą banki zagraniczne, które poprzez prywatyzację oraz przejęcia polskich banków opanowały znaczą część polskiego sektora finansowego. W opracowaniu przedstawiono procesy koncentracji dokonujące się w polskim sektorze bankowym, rolę banków zagranicznych w tych procesach, a także wpływ fuzji i przejęć na rozwój analizowanego sektora oraz na polską gospodarkę.
Abstract	From the beginning of the 90’s the Polish banking sector has been changing. Consolidation and concentration processes taking place in the sector have been essential parts of these changes.. Foreign banks have actively participated in the process taking over a large share of the Polish financial sector by privatisation and takeovers of Polish banks. The paper describes consolidation processes taking place in the Polish banking sector, the role that foreign banks play in the processes, as well as impacts of mergers and takeovers on the sector’s development and the Polish economy.

Abstrakt	Kraje Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej (EŚiW) cechuje znaczne zróżnicowanie sektora rolnego, zarówno w zakresie dochodów, jak też i czynników je kształtujących. Jedną z kategorii pozwalających na zobrazowanie tych różnic jest wartość dodana brutto. Jej wielkość jest ważnym kryterium ekonomicznej oceny funkcjonowania różnych dziedzin wytwórczości, w tym i wytwórczości rolniczej, obrazuje ona bowiem przyrost wartości dóbr w wyniku określonego procesu produkcji.
Abstract	The income situation of the agricultural sector in the CEE countries is discussed. The dynamics of incomes, the productivity of labour and land, and the income gained by an average farm in 2003-2005 were analyzed. Both in 2004 and in 2005 an improvement in the income situation of agriculture in the CEE countries was observed. In 2005 compared to2003 in all CEE countries an increase of incomes in the agricultural sector occurred, the biggest being in Poland and in Lithuania. In 2005 the highest productivity of labour was in the Czech Republic and in Estonia and it was the lowest in Latvia. Also incomes obtained by an average farm were the highest in the Czech Republic and the lowest in Lithuania. The highest GVA per hectare of agricultural land was obtained in Slovenia.

Abstrakt	W artykule przedstawiono stan obecny i perspektywy przetwórstwa oraz handlu i spożycia mleka i produktów mlecznych. W latach 2003-2005 polskie mleczarstwo rozwijało się dynamicznie, postępowały przemiany strukturalne w przetwórstwie i handlu, nastąpił skokowy wzrost eksportu, zwłaszcza do UE, kontynuowany był spadkowy trend spożycia mleka i przetworów. W przyszłości należy spodziewać się stagnacji przerobu na poziomie ustalonym przez kwotę mleczną, kontynuacji przemian strukturalnych, ograniczania eksportu na rzecz stopniowo rosnącego popytu krajowego i w konsekwencji stopniowego zrównywania się wielkości importu z eksportem, być może nawet Polska stanie się importerem netto. Wyrównujące się ceny surowca w poszerzonej UE oraz niska wydajność pracy wskazują na potrzebę redukcji przerostów zatrudnienia w celu utrzymania konkurencyjności polskiego mleczarstwa.
Abstract	The paper presents the current state and prospects of a dairy processing, trade and milk consumption in Poland. In the period 2003-2005 there were observed following features: fast growth of Polish dairy sector, structural changes in dairy processing and trade, soar of export and decline of consumption. In the future there could be predicted stagnation of the scope of milk processed, further structural changes, decline of export according to the gradual increase of domestic demand. Polish dairy competitive advantage based on cheap raw milk is gradually going away. Law labour efficiency suggests, that labour reduction is needed for the industry to be still competitive in the future.
