| Abstract | The paper examines the rates of return of three main types of investment funds in the period of from 2005 to June 2016. The analysis covers 120 equity, 55 bond and 60 mixed funds and is based on data taken from www.bossa.pl, www.analizy.pl and www.izfa.pl. The results of analysis indicate that macroeconomic conditions significantly shape fund returns, though the impact is diversified by fund type. Better stock market conditions benefit equity and mixed funds, and the periods of economic slowdown are favorable for safer funds, including bond and money market funds. For the entire period, equity funds achieved the highest returns, but with the highest risk. The opposite situation concerned bond funds. The average returns of every type of fund were higher than deposit rates – more than 50% of the funds outgained them. |

| Abstract | The purpose of the present paper is to identify the particular use of marketing strategies for innovative products and to define the features thereof. Innovative food products can be defined as those made of unconventional materials, with the use of the latest technologies and new methods of processing and storage, and/or innovative tools of marketing promotion. In the paper I show that innovative strategy is a leading functional strategy of high-tech enterprises. It involves producing a comprehensive set of measures for improving technological aspects of the production process, changes in the company’s organisational structure, and the implementation of modern management technologies. The strategy requires companies to act consistently, which allows them to position themselves in the market. A change in strategy is a response to changing external conditions. Innovative food products belong to the FMCG market, which is characterised by tough competition and oversupply. Forming effective strategies, creating successful brands and profitable business activity in this market requires an approach tailored to this market. Strategies of leading brands in the FMCG sector include seeking out prospects in emerging markets, acquiring leaders in profitable and attractive segments and forming alliances with competitors. |

| Abstrakt | The article attempts to compare the importance of agriculture and the dynamics of its development in Ukraine and Poland. The most important constraints on the development of Ukrainian agriculture were identified, including the unregulated land market, lack of coherent support programs for agriculture and rural areas, poorly developed infrastructure of the agricultural environment and lack of capital for development. It was found that agriculture in Ukraine is characterized by a high growth rate of productivity and production. The observed output gap in relation to agriculture in Poland is about 10 years. The agricultural sector in Ukraine has about 10% share in generating GDP and as much as 40% share in exports. Such high importance can be maintained even in the conditions of economic development, as there are large reserves in the development of agribusiness. The most important development factors include the introduction of a coherent program for the development of the agribusiness sector, including production of goods with high added value and increasing the availability of capital for the development of agriculture. A great opportunity is the development of trade in the conditions of affiliation with the EU. |

| Abstrakt | Despite a wide range of research on the agricultural market conducted so far, relatively little attention has been devoted to a comprehensive analysis of linear and non-linear causality in relation to the entire agri-food sector in Poland, in the context of risk. The objective of this study is therefore to analyze the linear and non-linear relationships between shares of WSE's agri-food industry sectors in terms of risk. The study covered three sectors of agri-food sector currently existing on the WSE (29 listed companies): Foods (21 listed companies), Agricultural Production and Fisheries (5 listed companies) and Food and Foodstuffs and fast-trafficking foodstuffs (3 listed companies). The existence of linear relationships was verified using the test procedure proposed by Hong, Liu, Wang and Łęt, while non-linear relationships were verified using the Diks-Panchenko, Orzeszko and Osińska tests’s. The study was carried out on the basis of data from companies of the agri-food industry listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the period from 1 May 2010 to 1 May 2017. The chosen research methodology was dictated by the correlation with investment risk on the WSE. The strongest and most enduring dependencies have been found in the agricultural and fisheries sectors. In the foodstuff sector and the fast-marketable sector, the risk of investment in the listed companies was temporary. |

| Abstrakt | The aim of the paper was to examine the evolution of the importance and comparative advantages of the EU and US agri-food sector in world trade in 1995-2015. The research is based on data from UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) resources. The following indicators were used in the comparative advantage analysis: Balassa’s Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Vollrath’s Revealed Competitiveness (RC), the Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA), and the Lafay’s Trade Balance Index (TBI). In 1995-2015, the EU countries and the US were the largest players of world trade in agri-food products. The EU countries held comparative advantages in the global market as regards exports of products of animal origin whereas the exports of cereals, preparations of cereals, oilseeds and oleaginous fruits and meat products were the source of revealed comparative advantages for the US. Both the EU countries and the US reached high comparative advantages in trade in those assortment groups which corresponded to their highest shares in global exports and generated a high, consistently increasing positive trade balance. Therefore, their comparative advantages were the source of their favourable export specialisation profile, which is consistent with the classical comparative costs principle. |

| Abstrakt | The main aim of this study is to identify a model organic food cluster situated on the territory of a selected European Union country and its operation effects. In the first part of the study a selected food market of France is characterized as a reference point of further analyses and studies. The data was obtained from French domestic reports which cover years 2007-2016. Dynamics of changes has been defined as well as the trends characteristic of the analyzed period. The method of least squares has been used. Moreover, a definition and the importance of clusters has been presented on the basis of the literature of that topic. The part of the study includes a description of functioning of a selected French organic food cluster is described and evaluated. The method of case study has been used. It has been found that in 2007-2016 the eco-sector in France has developed significantly. A distinctly rising linear trend in the number of organic farms, ecological companies, ecologically cultivated land, the size of the market and degree of French people's knowledge of organic food labels has been reported for the eco-branch in France. As many as 112 projects have been implemented in the analyzed cluster. Those projects involved innovative and export undertakings which allowed to achieve a competitive advantage on the domestic market and even abroad. Positive effects also include possibility of experience exchange and financial support particularly important for young entrepreneurs. |

| Abstrakt | Głównym celem artykułu było określenie, czy istnieje zależność między stopniem globalizacji branż polskiego przemysłu spożywczego a ich wydajnością pracy, technicznym uzbrojeniem pracy i produktywnością. W pierwszym etapie badań podzielono 16 branż przemysłu spożywczego na 3 grupy: o bardzo wysokim stopniu globalizacji (grupa 1), wysokim (grupa 2) oraz niskim (grupa 3). Podziału dokonano na podstawie udziałów korporacji transnarodowych w wartości przychodów ze sprzedaży w poszczególnych branżach przemysłu spożywczego. Następnie porównano wyodrębnione grupy, wykorzystując tradycyjne wskaźniki (wydajności pracy, produktywności środków trwałych), a także wielowymiarowe wskaźniki produktywności bazujące na metodzie Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI ). Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że branże o bardzo wysokim i wysokim poziomie globalizacji charakteryzowały się zdecydowanie wyższą wydajnością pracy i wyższymi wynagrodzeniami dla pracowników. Branże te odnotowały ponadto niższą niż branże o niskim poziomie globalizacji produktywność środków trwałych oraz podobną produktywność całkowitą, mierzoną metodą MPI. |
| Abstract | The main aim of this paper was to determine if there is any correlation between the degree of globalization of individual sectors of the Polish food industry and their productivity. In the first stage of the research, 16 sectors of the food industry were divided into 3 groups: with a very high degree (Group 1), high degree (Group 2) and low degree (Group 3) of globalization. This division was based on the share of trans-national corporations in the value of sales revenues in individual branches of the food industry. Then, the author compared the groups with the use of traditional factors (labour productivity, assets productivity) and multi-dimensional productivity index - Malmquist Productivity Index. The research indicates that the sectors with very high and high degrees of globalization report definitely higher labour productivity and wages and salaries, with a slightly higher MPI measured productivity but lower fixed asset productivity. |

Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja sektorowej struktury zatrudnienia według podregionów (NUTS3). Dane uzyskane z Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego posłużyły do sprawdzenia istnienia autokorelacji przestrzennej opisanej statystykami Morana. Uzyskane rezultaty pozwoliły na identyfikację klastra subregionów w południowo-wschodniej części kraju, gdzie zatrudnienie w rolnictwie, leśnictwie i rybołówstwie jest ważną częścią rynku pracy na obszarach przeważająco wiejskich. |
| Abstract | Agriculture, forestry and fishing have been still a very important part of the labour market. However, the situation is diversified across Polish subregions. The objective of the study is to investigate sectoral employment diversification in rural areas across Polish subregions (NUTS 3). In order to do it, data on the subregional employment structure provided by the Central Statistical Office of Poland was used for computation of spatial autocorrelation described by Moran’s statistics. Results of this analysis display for example a cluster of subregions in south-east Poland, where employment in agriculture, forestry and fishing is a significant trend of predominantly rural subregions. |

| Abstract | This is the first of 5 articles describing a research conducted to assess the creditworthiness of enterprises and the impact of such an assessment on the level of lending rates during the crisis that has covered the banking sector in Ukraine. In the framework of this study, it was assumed that the creditworthiness of agrarian enterprises involves the following four factors which are subject to the assessment: the credit history of the enterprise, its financial status, business plan and the adequacy of the security (the subject of the mortgage). This article describes the results of the assessment of the credit history of the enterprise. The aim of the study is to identify the quantitative measure of the correlation between the assessment of the credit history of enterprises and the level of repayment of credit in a crisis of the banking sector, as well as the improvement of methodological approaches to such an assessment. |

| Abstrakt | Niniejszy artykuł koncentruje się na badaniu zależności między wartością życiowa klienta a wartością rynkową banków na rynku polskim. Wielu autorów (P. Seybold, S. Gupta, D. Lehmann, R. Boulton, B. Liebert, S. Samek, R. Heiebeler, T. Kelly, Ch. Ketteman, P. Doyle) wykazywało pozytywną zależność miedzy wartością przyszłych przepływów pieniężnych od bazy klientów firmy a prognozowaną wyceną rynkową firmy przez inwestorów. Innym zastosowaniem wartości życiowej klienta jest zarządzanie kapitałem klienta poprzez rozwijanie klientów, ochrona relacji z nimi, zacieśnianie relacji czy zwiększanie ich wartości. Głównym założeniem artykułu jest przybliżenie metody CLV oraz zbadanie rozlicznych korelacji tego wskaźnika z wynikami finansowymi banków giełdowych. Artykuł koncentruje się także na metodologiach i trudnościach wyliczania CLV. W tym przypadku zbadane zostaną dwie metody liczenia CLV – jedna oparta na zysku z działalności podstawowej, a druga hipotetycznie bardziej dokładna na zysku brutto w segmencie operacyjnym detal. W związku z przyjętym podejściem ukazana zostanie charakterystyka tak rozumianego kapitału klienta na polskim rynku banków giełdowych wyliczana osobno dla CLV na zysku z działalności podstawowej oraz na zysku brutto. Wiele badań wykazywało pozytywną korelację między wartością szacunkowych przyszłych przepływów pieniężnych bazy klienckiej banku a wartością rynkową firmy. Finalnie zweryfikowana zostanie hipoteza o wysokiej korelacji między wartością życiową bazy klientów banku a jego wartością rynkową banków. |
| Abstract | The following article focuses on researching the dependencies between customer lifetime value CLV and the market valuations MV on the Polish banking sector. Many authors (P. Seybold, S. Gupta, D. Lehmann, R. Boulton, B. Liebert, S. Samek, R. Heiebeler, T. Kelly, Ch. Ketteman, P. Doyle) were claiming that there is a positive dependency between the value of future cash flows from the customer base of the company and its forecasted market valuation by the investors. Article’s main goal is to explain CLV methodology and to investigate correlations of this index with the financial results of Polish stock exchange banks. It also focuses on the methodologies and difficulties of appropriate estimation of the CLV. In this case two methods will be taken into account – first traditional measured on the Other Income and second hypothetically more accurate measured on Gross Income in the retail operating segment. Next the author will try characterize the customer equity calculated both for the Other Income CLV and the Gross Profit CLV on the Polish retail banking market, for the stock exchange banks. There is a lot of research confirming a positive correlation between the estimated value of future cash flows from the base of customers and the market value of the company. Finally a hypothesis of a high correlation between lifetime value of the customer base of the bank and its market value will be verified. |

W celu zobrazowania pozycji przetwórstwa spożywczego posłużono się udziałem procentowym produkcji sprzedanej przemysłu spożywczego w ogólnej wartości produkcji sprzedanej przemysłu. Biorąc pod uwagę udział całkowitej wartość produkcji sprzedanej w krajach Unii Europejskiej w 2016 r. Polska znalazła się wśród liderów krajów członkowskich, zajmując szóstą pozycję. Z udziałem 4% uplasowała się za Niemcami, Włochami, Francją, Wielką Brytanią i Hiszpanią. Zestawienia w opracowaniu dotyczą lat 2015 i 2016. |
| Abstract | The aim of the article is to present the position of the Polish food processing sector in the context of food processing in the European Union countries and to present the food processing in Poland against the whole industry production. The execution of the subject in question started with the literature studies of national and international positions. In the empirical part the data published by the European Statistical Office EUROSTAT and the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) were used. The share of the sold food industry production in the total value of the sold industrial production was used to illustrate the position of the food processing sector. Taking into account the total value of sold production in the European Union countries in 2016, Poland was among the leaders of the member states, occupying the sixth position. With the share of 4% it was placed after Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain and Spain. The comparisons are for the years 2015 and 2016. |

| Abstract | Ukraine’s agricultural sector is developing quickly. While providing solutions to matters of the agricultural industry, marketing should be considered as targeted management of modern agricultural business. One of the specific features of the agricultural marketis limitation of land and how production depends on it. More than 80% of agricultural lands are leased to agricultural growers and producers. Under the current conditions of agricultural activity of a business, there is an increase in competitiveness between lessors overreissue of land share lease agreements. Lessors, who are the owners of land shares, have to take their place in the market environment of agricultural businesses and in the system of agricultural marketing in general, since they both perform the functions of the key asset provider, i.e. the land bank and partially the consumer of products made by this business. |

| Abstract | The article studies the historical development of educational migration processes in Ukraine. It processes the classification of educational migration in view of global instability and manifestations of the crisis. It also suggests measures that should be implemented to prevent significant educational immigration from Ukraine. It also determines that the prerequisite for the educational migration is the desire of an individual to get certain education, which can be classified in terms of desired level of qualification, professional specialization, directions, methods and ways of getting education and the desired result. It is noted that a specific feature of educational migration is its impact not only on the profitability of the educational sector (or a particular university), but also on the economy of the country (region) that provides educational services in general. In addition, the consumers of educational services are a potential workforce of corresponding qualifications. In order to define characteristic features of educational migration from Ukraine, it was necessary to identify individual characteristics of such transferences; that is why classification of educational migration was done in view of global instability and manifestations of the crisis. To maintain and expand the reproduction of intellectual potential, it was suggested to use effective measures of educational and migration policy that would quickly adapt to the changes in the global economic environment. It is necessary to apply the mechanisms which could establish systematic movement of intelligence, capital, and information in two mutually symmetrical directions (into Ukraine and out of Ukraine). It is necessary to strengthen the competitive advantages of Ukraine in science, education and high technologies. |

| Abstract | Nowadays, it is quite important that business companies understand brand awareness and consumer profile for their products and services. They can take advantage of this information to properly adapt their marketing strategies to the needs of their targetedmarkets and segments. This research paper aims at measuring brand awareness and consumer profile for different types of milk in Tirana. Through a set of face to face questionnaires, it is revealed that those in charge of purchases in the household are pretty aware of the vast majority of the milk brands available in Tirana market. They also give high evaluation scores to the most known brands. On the other hand, consumers’ profile for different types of milk (UHT vs. pasteurized or fresh) seems to differ based on some specific socio-economic variables of the household and the person in charge of the purchases. The consumers with the highest income and education level are more aware about food safety importance. Such consumers are leaned more towards purchasing UHT milk. |

| Abstract | The post-industrial stage of development reached in developed countries is characterized by an increase in services' share and the progressive decline of the manufacturing share in their economies. The intensification of deindustrialization process heated up the discussion pertaining to its impact on the weakening of investment, technological progress, innovation, and a decline in labour productivity and GDP growth. The aim of the paper is to present the scale and consequences of deindustrialization in the euro area based on analysis of manufacturing and other sectors shares in the gross value added and employment in the euro area. The indicators used for the assessment of deindustrialization consequences are: labour productivity and total factor productivity (TFP) growth rates. As the outcome of conducted analysis, the author has drawn two main conclusions: 1) the decreasing importance of manufacturing limits the possibility of carrying out research projects and creating technological progress, 2) the negative TFP growth rate, declining of labour productivity growth rate in 2008-2015 and the decrease of GDP testifies to the threat of secular stagnation in the euro area. |

| Abstract | The purpose of this paper is a comparative analysis of support provided to agriculture sector by the QUAD countries in 1986-2014. The authors examined the changes in levels and structures of this support and tried to assess it from the point of view of its impact on the QUAD economies and markets. In the analysis conducted there were used especially the OECD data and indexes measuring state support to agriculture including: Total Support Estimate, Producer Support Estimate, General Services Support Estimate and Consumer Support Estimate. In the last three decades in all the examined economies, there has been a reduction in agricultural support in relation to GDP, although no distinct change has occurred in terms of the amount of aid in absolute terms (in the US its value even increased almost twice). As regards the changes in structure of support, the most favorable tendencies took place in the European Union where the market price support (MPS), i.e. the most distorting aid to the functioning of the market mechanism, was significantly reduced. One can also positively assess the support structure in the United States where about half of the agricultural budget is earmarked to consumers. Canada has very good economic outcomes as regard the agriculture sector even though it allocates the least amount of financial resources to support agriculture in relation to GDP among all the QUAD economies. However, despite a large part of this support is in the form of general services (GSSE), the country is characterized by an unfavorable trend of increasing expenditure on price support. Throughout the period considered the most harmful support policy from the point of view of market competition was led by Japan though it has affected to a lesser extent the functioning of international agri-food markets due to the lower importance of Japanese agricultural production and exports in the world economy in comparison to the EU and the US. |

| Abstract | The historical as well as recent experiences show that in some countries and sectors cooperatives play a key role. The agricultural cooperatives are the organizations where farmers pool their resources in certain areas of activity. A fundamental differences between the agricultural cooperatives in develop countries and the CEEC exist. To add insight to the understanding these differences the paper presents some relevant, secondary data. Precisely, the purpose of the article is to investigate the position of Polish agricultural production cooperatives (APCs) on the domestic market and in comparison to cooperatives in developed countries. A main finding is that there is observed a phenomenon of decreasing number of APCs, poorly recognized brands, a relative small turnovers and market shares in comparison to agricultural cooperatives in developed countries. |
