Abstrakt	W opracowaniu scharakteryzowano nierolniczą działalność gospodarczą prowadzoną przez rodziny rolnicze w latach 1996-2000. Zidentyfikowano jej formy i rodzaje, czynniki wpływające na podejmowanie tejże działalności oraz możliwości dalszego jej rozwoju. Wskazano zmiany poziomu intensywności produkcji oraz organizacji w badanych gospodarstwach. Pokazano znaczenie działalności nierolniczej w dochodach rolników indywidualnych, a także bariery jej rozwoju.
Abstract	The paper describes non-agriculture activity of the family farms in period 1996-2000. It includes the identification forms of the non-agriculture activity, factors affecting decision to start in and its future development possibilities. The analysis presents changes of the intensity production level and the intensity organization in farms. Influence of the non-agriculture activity on income level of farmers and development barriers were also pointed.

Abstrakt	Celem badań było określenie zmian na rynku trzody chlewnej w Polsce po rozszerzeniu UE. Badania wykazały, że w Polsce występuje powolny proces koncentracji produkcji, który uwidacznia się w powiększaniu dużych stad. Po rozszerzeniu UE wzrósł udział krajów unijnych w polskim handlu zagranicznym wieprzowiną. Zmieniły się formy interwencji na rynku trzody chlewnej. Podstawą wsparcia stało się dotowanie eksportu oraz prywatnego przechowywania wieprzowiny. Po akcesji Polski do UE odnotowano zmiany cen skupu trzody chlewnej. Początkowo w 2004 roku były one wysokie, ale już na początku 2006 roku należały do najniższych w UE. Objęcie Polski Wspólną Polityka Rolną sprzyja wzrostowi produkcji żywca wieprzowego i prowadzi do powstania nadwyżki eksportowej. W celu jej sprzedaży konieczne są działania promocyjne oraz poszukiwanie nowych rynków zbytu.
Abstract	The aim of research was to specify changes in the pigs market in Poland after the EU extension. Research shows that a slow process of concentration of production takes place in Poland, which is revealed by an increase in number of big herds. Participation of member countries in the Polish foreign trade in pork has grown after the extension of EU. Forms of interventions have been changed in the pig market. Subsidizing of export and private storage of pork has become the base of support. Price changes in pig purchases after the Polish accession to EU have been noticed. The prices were high initially in 2004, but they belonged to lowest in Europe already at the beginning of 2006. Accession and including Poland into CAP promote pork production and leads to creation of export surplus. Promotional operations seeking new markets are indispensable for its sale.

Abstract	In the paper relationship between method of consolidation of the Żywiec Group balance and its financial assessment in the scope of ratios of profitability, liquidity and efficiency was presented. Connections of mutual claims and liabilities in capital group were various as regards sums of settlement as well as terms of maturity. There were significant differences of value of property statement between consolidated breweries, where there were small differences of structure. Breweries differ as regards strategy of financing an activity. The complete method of consolidation doesn’t change financial assessment of the Żywiec Group, where there were significant changes as regards capital structure. Proportional method of consolidation cause similar links of property and capital relationships to complete method of consolidation. Used method of consolidation has insignificant impact on the level of profitability ratios of capital and assets. The liquidity of Żywiec Group, regardless the method of consolidation, was unchanged. The use of proportional method of consolidation caused improvement of efficiency ratios

Abstract	The characteristic feature of the recent times is the high rate of change in an economical environment of agricultural enterprises. That significant process is mainly expressed by high rate of wages growth in non-agricultural sectors and increase of agricultural input prices, while there is observed the simultaneous stagnation, even decrease of agricultural produce prices. That facts influence therefore decrease of unit profitability of agricultural production and farm income diminishment. The main and even the only way for the farmers adjustment to the new reality is an increase of economical labor efficiency, which they can achieve through growth of farm size due to leasing of agricultural land. Hence the leasing practices have recently become the main way of farm size development

Abstract	The results of 80 production cycles of broiler chickens, fattened on a largescale farm situated near Siedlce in the years 2000–2004, were analysed in the research. The adjustment of the model and estimation of the function parameters: production, feed costs as well as average and marginal product was attempted. Two levels of live chicken prices and three levels of the prices of feed mixtures were taken into account. The intersection points of the average and marginal product were attempted. The intersection points of the average and marginal product functions made it possible to approximately calculate the moment in which further broiler fattening became non-profitable because of the feed costs. For both levels of live chicken prices and all the levels of the prices of mixtures the intersection points of the average and marginal product functions were determined. It was found that the decrease in live chicken prices as well as the prices of chicken feed mixtures accelerates the moment of the production becoming non-profitable.

Abstract	The article presents the results of public opinion poll about purchase habit. The data covering the period from 1998 to 2004, showing the changes of a liking for shopping. Consumer’s behavior is close to be European standard. The dissertation shows main economic factor of shopping decision. The shopping preferences are linked to household income, which influence also the food consumption level. Inadequate financial means cause the changes of consumer’s habits. Customers show most interest in those shops which compete with others via attractive prices. The main reasons of the choice of main shopping outlet are: low prices, high quality of products, proximity to home, pleasant staff, attractiveness of offered goods, habit, business hours, plus promotions and sales.

Abstract	The paper presents differences between Polish balance law and the IAS/ /IFRS as well as their consequences for the financial situation evaluation of the Provimi-Rolimpex Capital Group. Several divergences between Polish balance law and the IAS/IFRS were found, especially in the fixed and current assets, the profit and loss statement as well as in the ratio analysis. These differences were caused by dissimilar valuation or obligation of reclassifying some assets’ positions to different categories or as a result of decrease or increase of some assets, capital or results. The fixed material assets had the greatest impact on the balance, which amounted 77% of the assets’ changes. The fixed material assets, by change the valuation into the fair value, caused increase of equity value by 75.528 thousand PLN. Employment of the IAS/IFRS resulted in implementation of new biology and fixed assets’ positions. The financial result calculated within the Accounting Act was lower by 1.222 thousand PLN than within the IAS/IFRS. Transformation of the financial declaration within the IAS/IFRS, initially made within the Accounting Act rules, resulted in increase of the sale profitability ratio, decrease of total indebtness and equity indebtness ratios. However, assets and equity profitability as well as the liquidity level decreases. There happened no essential changes regarding management effectiveness ratios

Abstract	In the paper the analysis of changes in the structure of an economic activity of rural population, with division into agricultural rural population and rural people without land was presented. Changes in the age structure and education structure of rural population as one of factors differentiating economic activity were also analyzed. Increasing tendency in the share of village people without land and in the share of economically inactive population was observed. Landless population dominated in the structure of old aged people while in the group of agricultural rural population youngest people dominated. An increase of better educated people in the structure of rural population was stated. However the worst educated people dominate, particularly within agricultural population. Differences in professional activity between agricultural and landless rural people should be considered in creating agricultural politics towards rural areas, with differentiation applied instruments and direction of administrating financial support

Abstract	Food safety and quality are main issues in food economics. The first part of this paper deals with food quality in Poland before and after the process of integration with the EU. The conducted analysis have confirmed the improvement of Polish food quality. The sanitary conditions of Polish processing plants have also improved. But the concentration of nitrates is still very high in some vegetable products. The second part contains an analysis of the Polish exports and imports and their changes in the economic transition process. Wheat imports were higher than exports. In addition to this, the survey proved that Poland is self-sufficient in food production and food safety has improved in the transition period

Abstrakt
Abstract	The paper aims to evaluate whether or not the last EU enlargement to the new 10 member states (EUN-10) has influenced the intra EU trade of agricultural products. In particular, the analysis focuses on the effects on trade between two groups of countries EU-15 and EUN-8 (i.e. the Central-Eastern Europe new members countries) of the EU-accession process. The import-export flows show a noticeable increase in trade between the two areas over the last decade. This increase surely stems from the opening up process, but according to second best theory in international trade which applies to Customs Unions – it not necessarily favours efficiency as far as social welfare is concerned. The analysis shows also that the comparative advantages in certain products, which ten years ago fuelled trade, do not appear to have altered the position of the two groups of countries. Focusing on agricultural products the integration process, which was already underway during the pre-accession period, has maintained and not reduced their specific specialization.

Abstract	Poland is the largest producer of apples in Europe. Statistical analysis of data concerning harvests, yields, age and varieties of apple trees shows the Polish leader position. Visible changes in the new apple orchards are responding to the preferences of modern consumers. Russia and the European Union are main recipients of Polish apples. Though consumer apples are dominating in the structure of sales, also industrial apples and apple concentrate will be supplementing Polish exports abroad in the near future.

There are changes in the selection of apple varieties produced in Poland and an increase of production of the varieties popular in the EU. The growth of apple production in Poland is connected with establishing producer organizations.

Abstrakt	Tempo przemian agrarnych w rolnictwie polskim jest powolne. W latach 1996-2004 liczba gospodarstw zmniejszyła się o 9,3%. W strukturze agrarnej nadal dominują gospodarstwa małe do 5 ha. Ich udział wynosi 72,7%. W krajach UE gospodarstwa do 5 ha stanowią 57,6%. Średni obszar badanego gospodarstwa wynosił 7,8ha. Obszar okazał się istotnym czynnikiem różnicującym wartość produkcji końcowej i towarowej. W przypadku dochodu rolniczego skala zróżnicowania pomiędzy grupami obszarowymi była jeszcze większa.
Abstract	The pace of agrarian changes in Polish agriculture is slow. In years 1996-2004 the number of farms decreased by 9.3 %. Small farms up to 5 hectares are still dominant in the agrarian structure. Their share in the total number of farms amounts to 72.7 %. Farms up to 5 hectares have in the EU countries a share of 57.6%. The average acreage of farms investigated in this study was equal to 7.8 hectares. The area turned out to be a crucial factor, which differentiates the worth of final and commercialised production. Dąży się do przystosowania istniejących instytucji, a przede wszystkim Narodowego Funduszu Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej oraz wojewódzkich funduszy ochrony środowiska i gospodarki wodnej, a także Banku Ochrony Środowiska, do zadań wynikających z zarządzania środkami pochodzącymi z funduszy strukturalnych. Ostatnie zmiany wymuszają wypracowanie form i zasad współpracy międzyregionalnej i międzypaństwowej w finansowaniu przedsięwzięć o charakterze regionalnym i europejskim ograniczających zanieczyszczenia transgraniczne, służących zachowaniu bioróżnorodności i produkcji energii odnawialnej z wykorzystaniem środków krajowych, unijnych oraz międzynarodowych publicznych instytucji finansowych.
Abstract	The main aim of the paper is to show the sources of funds for environmental protection after the Polish accession to the European Union, with a special emphasis on governmental funds. Its indirect aim is an elaboration of special topics for dealing with the implementation of investment projects connected with protection of environment. The paper presents changes in the social consciousness with respect to the protection of the environment. It provides an analysis of expenses in pro-environmental investments. Abstrakt
Abstract	The presented prognosis indicates possible directions and conditions of changes that will take place in the Polish countryside within the next few years. It should be underlined that this period will encompass both positive and negative processes. During this period 2.5 billion Euros (not including money for the Common Agricultural Policy) will be devoted to the development of rural areas. Together with domestic funds, it makes a total sum of 3 billion Euros of available financial resources. Having topped these funds up with investors’ own contributions, it will be possible to deal with total financial support of 4.5 - 4.9 billion Euros per annum. This will allow us to change the image of rural areas considerably, especially the level of technical infrastructure and the quality of productive potential of agriculture, as well as agribusiness. Therefore, the countryside and farms will have many more investment opportunities at their disposal. It is predicted that these funds should first of all be devoted to creating new work opportunities in rural areas and subsequently to improve competitiveness of farms due to their progressive concentration and technical modernisation. These processes are strongly related to each other and, therefore, one should not suppose considerable regional farm concentration without providing workplaces for farmers, especially the least skilled. On the other hand, one should mention processes that will make carrying out the intentions difficult. One of them is undoubtedly further limitation of agricultural expenses, especially after year 2013 (Common Agricultural Policy included). The reform of Common Agricultural Policy that took place in 2003 assumed stabilisation of expenses on agriculture as well as their gradual reinvesting in I and II Common Agricultural Policy levels. Further changes that might take place in the subsequent period of planning (2014-2020) are not yet known, which significantly limits the possibilities of outlining aims and priorities for Poland. It should be assumed that further limitations of funds for agriculture and rural areas in general are yet to come. The above mentioned is supported by the following three reasons: - More and more popular criticism of the Common Agricultural Policy as it is shaped right now, - Funds for Common Agricultural Policy after new members with big agricultural population (Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Turkey) would need to be increased, - Negotiations related to liberalisation of world markets within WTO.
